MASS INTENTIONS This weekend, I’m away to participate and volunteer
at a national retreat/vacation for university students in
Estes Park, Colorado. Even though it’s been 2.5 years
since I’ve accompanied students on both university
campuses in Evansville, I keep getting invited to this
event by the leadership who organizes it, and have
even successfully managed to encourage a number of
students I know throughout the Diocese to attend
with me. It’s been a wonderful blessing to come
together and be part of the lives of hundreds of young
people from all over the country in addition to a few
others: Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela
to name a few. Along with the particular age and
diversity of people who attend, what I find most
profound and satisfying is the opportunity to
rediscover the sense of life as vocation with others.
The question of vocation or one’s calling in life is
always something discussed intensely at the early
stages of life, especially as it relates to work, but it
doesn’t end there. Yes, our path may become more
defined over time as we commit to certain things, and
people--dedicating oneself to a particular type of
occupation or getting married or ordained--but
hearing God’s voice, calling us closer to Him through
our day to day reality is something we constantly
have to discern and work at throughout our entire
lifetime. Having the free time to be open and discuss
the most serious questions that affect our lives in the
midst of a beautiful environment is a much needed
gift. It’ll be exciting to experience this conversation
with a group of people who are eagerly questioning
and searching out their own respective paths, and I
hope they will make it clearer for me how to enter
into that kind of dialogue with the folks in our
community.
In my absence, please welcome Fr. Denis, our
visiting, missionary priest this weekend at all our
Masses.
Happy Memorial Day, and thanks to all those who
have offered up their lives in a heroic way for others!

Sharing the Gospel
As the disciples ate with friends, traveled, worked,
shopped, and made new friends, they were to have
one goal in mind-help more people follow Jesus.
Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son,
and the Holy Spirit. Teach them to love God and
love each other. Teach them to have mercy and
forgive each other. Teach them to be humble.
Teach them to pray. Teach them to share. And
teach them to tell the people they met how to
follow Jesus, too.
Prayer Dear God, help me to teach my friends how to
love and follow you-Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Something to Draw
Draw a picture of yourself telling a friend about
God.
Mission for the Week
When we read the Gospel, Jesus teaches us about
the Father. What have you learned so far about the
Holy Spirit? Using the concordance found at the
back of your Bible, look up "Holy Spirit." As a
family, write down the verses, find them in your
Bible, and read them out loud. Talk about each
verse. If you have any questions, write them down
and ask your pastor or teacher for help.
As the month of May is especially devoted to the
Blessed Mother, pilgrimages to Monte Cassino
Shrine are held each Sunday during this month. The
pilgrimage begins with an opening hymn and a
short sermon, followed by a rosary procession. The
hour-long service ends with the Litany of the
Blessed Virgin and a hymn. Pilgrimages start at 3
p.m. Eastern Time. The shrine is located in St.
Meinrad, IN, one mile east of Saint Meinrad
Archabbey along Indiana 62.
Prayer for the Fallen
God our creator and sustainer,
today our country brings to our memory
those who have defended this nation in times of trouble.
They have sacrificed their lives to protect our shores
from those who would limit our freedoms
or enslave us to ways that are against your will.
Bring all those who have died in service to our country
into your heavenly presence.
We humbly call down your blessing
on those still serving;
grant your heavenly protection
to these men and women,
and open your Sacred Heart
to give them peace and comfort.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
