DIVINE INFANT JESUS and
DIVINE PROVIDENCE Catholic Parish
Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time August 25, 2019
Volume 19 TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME August 25, 2019
Dear Divine Infant and Divine Providence Parishioners: My name is Lynn LeTourneau and I am excited and honored to be the new principal at Divine Providence School. Mrs. Foleno and I
started together with the Archdiocese of Chicago in 2015. From her, I have heard about the strong faith and academics Divine Providence School has and I am happy to be part of this team. I am a product of the Archdiocese of Chicago School system. I come to Divine Providence with over 20 years of experience in Catholic Schools. I began as an 8th grade Math teacher in the Diocese of Joliet and later assumed the position of Principal at St. Andrew the Apostle in Romeoville. My most recent Principal experience is coming from Our Lady of Charity School in Cicero. I live in LaGrange and am married with three daughters- Erin (16), Renee (13) and Lisa (7). We love pets at our home, which currently come in at a total of 7, including our beloved dog, Lacy, and our goldfish named “Tuppy”. In my spare time, I love to make crafts and garden (although I am not very good at it). I am enthusiastic to begin to work with the amazing staff at Divine Providence School. I am eager to work with them to learn more about the Catholic Identity of the school, curriculum, and traditions. I am here to help students grow in so many different ways by being a strong spiritual leader and academic leader. I look forward to getting to know you. Please keep our school children, faculty and staff in your prayers. Peace, Mrs. Lynn LeTourneau 2019-2020 Principal Divine Providence School

Message to Altar Servers from Pope Francis…
"The closer you are to the altar," he told them, "the more you will remember to speak with Jesus in daily prayer;
the more you will be nourished by the word and the body of the Lord, the better able you will be to
go out to others, bringing them the gift that you have received, giving in turn with enthusiasm the
joy you have received.
Respond to the Lord, like the prophet Isaiah, ‘Here am I! Send me’ (Is 6:8).”

DIVINE PROVIDENCE
CATHOLIC PARISH
2019 Unity Prayer
Most gracious and loving God, Just as You and Your Son Jesus are one, You have called us to be one, holy parish. Open our minds and hearts to You and to one another as we walk this path on our spiritual journey. May the richness, diversity and gifts of our people be treasured and used as we become one parish in the Body of Christ. As we go forward together, help us to love one another unconditionally as You love us. Give us the strength to do Your will. Give us compassion to be people of peace who care for one another and for those most in need. Guide us by Your Holy Spirit in creating a parish that is one in spirit, one in faith and one in living Your Gospel.
We ask this through Jesus, Your son, Amen.

SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Tuesday: St. Monica Wednesday: St. Augustine Thursday: The Passion of St. John the Baptist Saturday: Blessed Virgin Mary
Saint Monica Feast Day August 27
The feast of St. Monica occurs the day before the feast of her son, St. Augustine. Her tears, prayers, and sacrifices over many years helped bring about his conversion. It is only proper that their feasts are celebrated close together.
The Passion of St. John the Baptist August 29
On this day, the universal Church marks the beheading of John the Baptist, who prepared the way for Jesus. As an adult, he lived as a hermit in the wilderness. After the Spirit inspired him, he went about preaching that the people should
repent of their sins and be baptized in order to prepare for the Messiah. Herod imprisoned John because he had condemned Herod for committing adultery by living with his brother's wife, Herodias. At the celebration for Herod on his birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced for him, and Herod was so impressed that he said he would offer her anything she liked. She consulted with Herodias who told her to ask for the head of John the Baptist on a platter. Herod did not want to kill John for fear of what his followers might do, but because of his promise to the girl he could not refuse, John was beheaded.
It is John the Baptist who has pointed the way to Christ. John’s life and death were a giving over of self for God and other people. His simple style of life was one of complete detachment from earthly possessions. His heart was centered on God and the call that he heard from the Spirit of God speaking to his heart. Confident of God’s grace, he had the courage to speak words of condemnation, repentance, and salvation.
Reflection Each of us has a calling to which we must listen. No one will ever repeat the mission of John, and yet all of us are called to that very mission. It is the role of the Christian to witness to Jesus. Whatever our position in this world, we are called to be disciples of Christ. By our words and deeds, others should realize that we live in the joy of knowing that Jesus is Lord. We do not have to depend upon our own limited resources but can draw strength from the vastness of Christ’s saving grace.
“Trust the past to God’s mercy, the present to God’s love, and the future to God’s providence.”
-St. Augustine of Hippo
