Divine Mercy Sunday Saint Joseph Parish will celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday this Sunday, April 3. There will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. At 3:00 p.m. there will be the singing of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, Eucharistic Prayers and Benediction. The message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska, an uneducated Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God's mercy. Our late Holy Father

Pope John Paul II designated the Second Sunday of Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday. If a person celebrates this feast, goes to confession and receives Holy Communion in the state of grace, a plenary indulgence (remission of all punishment due to sin) is promised. Confessions will not be heard that day but one can go during the week or the following Saturday and still receive the indulgence.

Prayer of the

Jubilee Year of Mercy December 8, 2015 to November 20, 2016

Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the

heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees

Him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze

freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the

adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created

things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise

to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of

us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you

knew the gift of God!”

You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who

manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the

Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and

glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in

weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in

ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel

sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.

Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its

anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace

from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may

bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the

oppressed, and restore sight to the blind.

We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy,

you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for

ever and ever.

Amen.

S t e w a r d s h i pS t e w a r d s h i pS t e w a r d s h i pS t e w a r d s h i p

This Sunday, the Sunday of Divine Mercy, was officially designated by Pope St. John Paul II in 2000 at the Canonization of St. Faustina Kowalska. This is a very special Sunday when Jesus through the Church offers forgiveness of all sins and punishment to those who have gone to confession and who receive the Eucharist on this holy day. It was on Divine Mercy Sunday last year that Pope Francis announced his intent for the Jubilee Year of Mercy “that has the mercy of God at its center.” From the beginning of his time as our Pope, our Holy Father Francis has had “mercy” as an ongoing theme. This Year of Mercy is directed at three groups of people: 1. Each of us as members of the Church; 2. The clergy; 3. Everyone in the world. Today’s celebration should bring all this in focus if it has not already. We are called to look into our own hearts and recognize our need for God’s mercy. Today should be a day of jubilation that God’s mercy is so free and open to us. Mercy is not earned; it is given unreservedly. The readings on this Holy Day all reflect that theme of mercy. We see this from the First Reading, as the apostles go about the countryside performing “signs and wonders.” In effect it declares that “they all were cured,” meaning God’s love and forgiveness is available and open to everyone, absolutely everyone. There is no limit and no restrictions on God’s mercy.

Perpetual Adoration

Have you visited our Adoration Chapel in the Holy Family Center?

We all need time and silence to connect with our Lord and Savior, and we are so blessed to have perpetual adoration at our parish. Please take the time to slow down, unplug and rest with our Lord. You will be glad you did!

Are you already a visitor to adoration ?

There are many visitors to our Adoration chapel but we are still in need of scheduled adorers. Can you commit to an hour and become an adorer or a co-adorer? The overnight hours are most in need because people seldom visit at those times.

• Sunday and Friday 1-5 a.m. • Monday and Thursday 12-5 a.m. • Tuesday 12-4 a.m. • Wednesday 12-1 a.m.; 3-4 a.m. • Saturday 12-1 a.m.

Other times most needed during the week are: • Sunday 9-12 p.m. • Thursday 11 a.m.-1 p.m. • Friday 1-3 p.m.

We also are in need of co-adorers at many times, so if you have an hour in mind, please contact:

• Martha Borraccini: [email protected] • Peg Cassidy: [email protected]

• Karen Martini: [email protected]

• Nancy White: [email protected]

• Sandy Williamson: [email protected]

The Adoration Chapel is located in the Holy Family Center, the one-story gray building across the parking lot from the church.
