Objectives
• Students will be able to:– Find reciprocals of given fractions– Divide Fractions, whole numbers and
mixed numbers by fractions– Solve real world problems involving
dividing fractions
To Divide Fractions:
• Rewrite the first fraction.• Change the division sign to a
multiplication sign.• Flip the second fraction upside
down (Find the reciprocal!!!).• Follow the steps to Multiply
Fractions.
Finding the Reciprocal
• When you flip the second fraction, you are writing that fraction’s reciprocal.

Remembering How to Divide Fractions: Use this Limerick
Strategy:
• Change mixed numbers into improper fractions.
• Instead of dividing, multiply by the reciprocal.
• Factor when possible, multiply, and put your answer in simplest form.
Word Problem• Diana practices the piano for 3 hours
each week. She practices a ½ hour each day that she practices. How many days does Diana practice each week?

Division

Diana practices 6 days a week.
Word ProblemGeri Ann is making a gallon of iced tea, which requires 6 cups of ice tea mix. She has only a ¼ cup measuring cup with which to measure. How many scoops of ice tea mix will Geri Ann need to use? What operation should
