Now try to divide the number in the hundreds and tens column (89) by 15: In this case, the closest multiple of 15 is: 5 x 15 = 75

8 9 515

The 5 is placed in the tens column directly above the 9

5

The 75 from 5 x15 = 75 goes directly below the 89 -7 5

1 4The remainder, the difference between 89 & 75, goes under the 75

The number from the units column is then dropped down next to the 145

Now try to divide this new number (145) by 15: In this case, the closest multiple of 15 is: 9 x 5 = 135

8 9 515

The 9 is placed in the units column directly above the 5

9

The 135 from 9 x15 = 135 goes directly below the 145

-7 51 4

The remainder, the difference between 145 & 135, goes under the 135

5

5

-1 3 51 0

In this question the remainder is 10, so 895 ÷ 15 = 59 r 10
