National Population Register(NPR)

One of the most ambitious projects in theCountry

Aims at creating a comprehensive database of

all usual residents in India with UID numbers

UID will help tremendously in facilitating e-gov:

- preventing duplication of benefits

- preventing leakage of resources

- simplify identification of beneficiaries

NPR: two major components:

- Digitization of demographic data capturedduring houselisting operation in 2010

- Collection of biometric data (photo, 10fingerprints, iris of both eyes) for age 5+

Database to be sent to UIDAI for de-duplication and allotment of UID numbers

NPR - Complete database with demographicand biometric data and UID numbers for every5+ resident

NPR Role of DIT

RGI has awarded the NPR project in 19 statesand 2 UTs to DIT

DITs main strengths: a huge network of over

83,000 CSCs, over 40,000 in the allottedstates

DIT has proposed to leverage the network of

CSCs for NPR project The CSCs would do the data entry at their

centers and help in capturing biometric data

NPR Prequalification of Agencies

Rural demographic: All agencies as per UIDT1 or higher plus all subsisting SCAs

Rural biometric: All agencies as per UID T1 orhigher

Financial criteria as per UID norms for UIDprequalified agencies

Urban: Same norms to be followed, exceptthat there will be no preference for SCAs
