CHEERLEADING Intramurals for cheerleading was amazing with over 60 students attending! According to Coaches Prentice and McFarland, every student was great and it was very difficult to make the cut to a 15 person team! Once the squad was established, practice began. They are practicing Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday every week from 2:30 to 4. They have been working really hard, even coming in 2 days over the Thanksgiving Break! They are looking forward to performing for the school and promoting school spirit and are very excited for the basketball season to start!

Anime always does fun activities such as going outside to play a small game of “Don’t Let the Ball Touch the Ground” to playing a game of Kahoot and sharing Fan Fiction. Anime meets every Wednesday in room 500 with Mr. Hart and Mr. Mantyla.

NJHS stands for National Junior Honor Society. The kids in this club organize almost everything for the school. They plan it and they get Ms. Meyer, the dean, to approve their ideas. NJHS meets at room 109 with Mr. Huggins on Wednesday from 2:15 until 3:30. Students are invited to join NJHS based on grades. If you want to help out you are more than welcome to stop by.

Yearbook meets Tuesday after school in room 602. The advisor is Ms. Moore. This club puts the yearbook together. How fun would it be to take pictures and decide which ones go in the yearbook?

Student Council meets every Thursday in the library. They discuss things going on around campus and how we can help. They also work on community service projects. Currently, they are planning a fundraiser for the Animal Foundation to take place in the spring. Anyone can join any time. Hope to see you there! For more information, talk to Ms. Prentice in the counseling office. They are currently planning the holiday spirit week, the teacher door decorating contest and cards to the first responders of October 1.

Love to sing? Vocal Club meets Tuesday after school. If you like to sing this club is for you. Ms. Morton, room 712, is the advisor. They meet in room 500 for practice.

Sci-fi club meets every Tuesday in room 200 with Mr. Hart. Sci-fi club does everything that involves Science Fiction. New members are always welcome.

LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO DO AFTER SCHOOL?

Speech and Debate students participate in district competitions. If you like to argue or feel the need prove you are always correct, contact Ms. Frailey, Ms. Wilson or Ms. Murray. They meet on Thursday and Friday in room 206. Check out the article in this newspaper for more information about this exciting club.

National Junior Art Honor Society meets in room 100 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons with Mr. Schlagheck. NJAHS is a National art society for the middle school level that allows students with a B or better grade in art and a 3.25 overall GPA participate. Initially students participate in planning meetings. We create designs and proposals for the principal or teacher asking for specific artwork. The students learn to tweak designs as needed for their "client". We focus on beautification of the school to deter graffiti. Once the proposals are okayed we break into teams to draw and paint different sections of the mural(s).

Recently, Student Council helped with PAYBAC to welcome the guests and escort the visitors around campus. Another big part of Student Council is teacher and staff appreciation. We also do something for the staff during American Education Week and Teacher Appreciation Week. If you are interested in being a part of this great club, see Ms. Prentice or stop by the library on Thursday afternoon.

Ms. Ravalo started Subs and Stories on October 16, 2016 when she visited another school that had a similar program. Students participating for the month, read a book and then meet to discuss what they have read. The first book of the year is chosen by Ms. Ravalo. After that the kids pick the genres and Ms. Ravalo picks the title from that genre. Students can join the Subs and Stories by signing up at the library, but only 30-36 student are allowed to join. The club only meets once a month and the day depends on Ms. Ravalo calendar. The next book is called “All the Answers”. It is a fantasy book about a girl who finds a pen and gives her all the answers. Listen to the announcements to sign up for the next book to read.
