REUNION – TASSIE TOGETHER 1996Message from Raelene Curtis:Were you one of the 60 Ranger Guide Leaders or Junior Leader Consultants who attended Tassie Together in April 1996? This was the last ever Ranger Leaders gathering before the sections were abandoned and the event was a roaring success. Do you still have your purple fleecy? We are searching for those people to join us at a 20 year Reunion.

The reunion will be held in Tasmania, March 11-14, 2016 at Nindethana Girl Guide property, near Launceston.

If you were there and would like to come and join us please email your intention to [email protected] and further information will be sent to you as it comes to hand. There is also a facebook page by the same name.

We have already had contact with about half the participants who are very keen.

KINDILAN FAMILY ADVENTURE FUN DAYKindilan’s Family Adventure Fun Day will be held on Saturday 22 August and bookings are now open. If you are planning on attending, please advise Yolande at Kindilan on [email protected] especially if you are bringing a large group or would like to book a campsite over the weekend. Please check your District and Unit lists to ensure that your current Members are listed and that anyone who is no longer attending is not on your list. It would be also helpful if their address and contact details are correct – especially email addresses. If you find any discrepancies, please notify [email protected] immediately.

Generation of reports has also been improved. If you are having any problems, again, please contact the [email protected] immediately.

We will gradually move staff onto a “dashboard” environment which will be easier to use and more efficient.

GOOD NEWS ON 2013 AUDITED REPORTSFor those who have not yet supplied their 2013 audited reports, I have a solution to this predicament.

Any District, Unit or Support Group who has not yet completed their 2013 reports, please post copies of the bank statements for 2013 to PO Box 739 Fortitude Valley QLD 4006 or scan and email to [email protected] by the end of August, at the very latest. Nothing else is required.

If this is not possible, please contact me directly to advise – Phone 07 3357 1266 or [email protected].

Under our Constitution Clause 29.5 and Policy and Procedure 22.18, the SEO is required to investigate these missing audits to prove that misappropriation of funds has not occurred. So please, send the bank statements or phone me to explain so that we can resolve the matter quickly.

As i have explained repeatedly - this is a legal requirement and can no longer be ignore.

AUDIT REPORTS FOR 2014Audited reports for 2014 are now overdue. Advise Carol ([email protected]) when we can expect these reports or if you need assistance.

Please be aware that Councils are now requesting copies of the District’s audited financial statements as part of the lease renewal process. They are also requesting copies of the Building Safety Check List (QF.IP.01) that are to be supplied with your audited reports every year.

If these reports have not been sent to the Support Centre, please do so now.

BLUE CARD – AS OF 1 JULY 2015All requests/renewals for Blue Card MUST be supplied on the pre-filled GGQ forms and sent to the Support Centre for initial processing. This will ensure more efficient and faster processing. Any forms sent direct to the Blue Card agency will be returned to GGQ for processing first. This extra step will delay receiving positive Blue Cards by several weeks

Pre-filled forms are on our website at www.guidesqld.org/bluecard.

For anyone who is registered for a Blue Card through any other organisation, they must complete an Authorisation form and forward to the Support Centre so that we can have you recorded on our system. This will avoid unnecessary paper work and lost time (RMs, DMs and staff). These pre-filled forms are also available on our website for your convenience.

NO BLUE CARD = NOT ABLE TO WORK WITH CHILDREN

YOUR BEST PROGRAM IDEASOur Program Manager is compiling a resource library that contains a great range of tried and tested activities. The idea is to make life easier for Leaders by having different ways of running or presenting particular activities and will be made available to all Leaders. A specially prepared form is attached to help collect your best/favourite program activities.

Please consider and send your ideas to the Program Manager (Glenys Tredoux) at [email protected].

Form template is attached to help submit all the necessary information.

BUY SMART COMPETITION 2015 – Chance to share in $11,000

Young people from Girl Guides Queensland are encouraged to take part in the Buy Smart Competition 2015, run by the Office of Fair Trading. This links closely with our Women of Substance Financial Literacy program.

This is an exciting opportunity to learn to be smart with money, become informed consumers and learn how to avoid financial problems later in life. You could also win a share of over $11,000!

To take part, all you have to do is identify and research a consumer issue and create an innovative way to present the issue to your chosen target audience. The more creative, the better!

Previous winning entries include a traditional board game with an incorporated computer component, consumer posters, a DVD on buying a car and a wipe on/off activity book for small children.

Prizes will be awarded in three categories: ʞ years 4–6 ʞ years 7–9 ʞ years 10–12.

There are cash prizes for the winners and runners-up of each category for both the entrant(s) and your Guide Unit!

ʞ First prize - $500 for yourself and $1,500 for the Guide Unit/District. ʞ Second prize - $200 for yourself and $800 for the Guide Unit/District. ʞ Third prize - $150 for yourself and $500 for the Guide Unit/District.

Entries close Friday 18 September 2015.

The competition is open to Queensland students currently in Years 4-12. Entries are judged on their quality, creativity, effectiveness and identification of a fair trading issue. You can enter on your own or as part of a group of up to six people.

For an entry kit and other resources visit www.qld.gov.au/buysmartcomp, email [email protected] or call the Office of Fair Trading on 13 QGOV (13 74 68).

ASBESTOS AUDIT REPORTSAsbestos Management Plans have been sent to all Districts who do not have current audits. These plans identify asbestos containing materials in the hut, rate their risk and what action is required. These reports must be readily available to everyone – especially any home handyman or tradesman before any work is done in the hut.

To comply with State legislation, we needed to identify areas that contain asbestos or may contain asbestos. Where “suspect” areas in poor condition were found, samples were taken and tested. In other cases, areas classified as “suspect”, but in good condition, were identified as such but samples were not taken. It is a very expensive exercise to conduct laboratory tests on every “suspect” area in every hut.

If any repair of removal work is required on the suspect areas in the future, samples can be taken by a qualified tradesman and tested before any work is undertaken.

If you have any concerns please contact me directly: [email protected]

PR BOOKMARKSBookmarks are now available from the Support Centre. Copies will be given to Region Managers at their workshop later this month for reference. To order, please contact [email protected].

AVIATION ACTIVITIESPlease beware that there is NO INSURANCE cover through Girl Guides for any aviation activities for our Members. Insurance is available but I must have at least four weeks notice so that appropriate cover can be arranged.

Any questions, please contact me directly at [email protected] or 3357 1266.
