Educational and training programmes need to be

strengthened for the development of human

resources and sustainable progress. With this object,

IHT organized a 7 day short term programme for

horticulture officers and field functionaries from the

state of Madhya Pradesh. The interactive lectures and

hands on training is very effective having direct impact

on productivity and quality of produce. Various topic

which formed part of the curriculam included

production of quality planting materials, farm waste

management and vermi-composting, Integrated pest

management, In-situ moisture conservation and

mulching, post harvest management and value

addition.

The trainees were also taken for exposure visit to Delhi, where they were shown various types

of gardening system and ornamental crops.

"Innovation of technologies inevitable for prosperity"

Feedback “IHT is a perfect place where horticulture officers and farmers get trained in newly invented technologies for horticulture. Through such training programmes, IHT is helping in dessimination of knowledge as well as in growth of horticulture” - Amit Solanki, Rural Horticulture Extension Officer, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh

“This organization provided us training on Good Horticultural Practices. I feel very much benefited from this training. I will use these technologies at my area and I will certainly try to motivate farmers to adopt these technologies” - Rajkumar Haldkar, Horticulture Development Officer, Katni, Madhya Pradesh

Success tips for growers - Topic for this month “Okra”

· Now you must be harvesting tender fruits of okra. Harvest always in the evening or very early in the morning keeping a small pedicil attached with the fruit.

· Harvest on alternative days to get the fresh and tender fruits. Keep the fruits always under shade to fetch better market returns.

· Frequent and light irrigation about 3 cm irrigation depths should be practiced during this month for better productivity and income.

· If you have not sown the crop on the ridges, go for it from next season. High seed rate per unit area i.e. 15-16kg/acre is recommended for this February sown crop.

During a 3 day outstation training programme which was

held in district Raigarh was telecasted on IBC24News on nd22 March, 2015. Our scientists Mr. Lalit Pratap Singh and

Mr. Deepak Mishra were engaged in this training

programme. Programme was conducted by IHT under

Important Newsthe banner of State Horticulture Mission,

Chhattisgarh. Total 270 farmers were participated

and benefitted through this skill development

programme. Innovative technologies which are

now used for augmenting quality crop production

were included in the pedagogy of training.

For diversification in horticultural production the protected cultivation of horticulture crops offers the best choice. Protected cultivation is partially modified environment structure, which is useful in combating both biotic and abiotic stresses that limit the productivity and quality of horticultural crops. Taking advantage of varied agro climatic conditions of the country and for maximizing water and nutrient use efficiency, this technology has great potential especially as peri-urban horticulture in near future. The technology can be profitably used for growing high value vegetable crops like tomato, coloured capsicum, parthenocarpic cucumber, commercial cut flowers like Chrysanthemum, Lilium, Gerbera and for off season production of disease free quality planting materials.

The Institute has designed more than a dozen short term and certificate courses on various hi-tech intervention for farmer, corporate personal and horticulture field functionaries. IHT believes in providing hands on training for better insight and confidence among trainees.
