In accordance with state and federal legislative requirements, the staff at Sunnyvale Independent School District conducted a comprehensive needs assessment for the 2014-15 school year. The needs assessment was conducted to identify gaps in the areas listed below. Data and findings from the comprehensive needs assessment were then used to develop the activities/strategies in the additional sections of the District Improvement Plan.

Student AchievementThe following data were reviewed in relation to Student achievement:STAAR Scores, MAP data, TRS Unit Assessments, RTI Data
Upon review of these data, several findings were noted. These findings include:Strengths:The data indicates that our subpopulations are growing and will need more information. Our Hispanic and African American sub groups are frequently performing below average. Our SPED sub groups are achieving at the lowest level. We must pay special attention to placing students in appropriate classes where they can receive the best instruction based on their needs. We provided support in many areas this year. We had Science pullouts for struggling students. ESL pullouts were provided to new ESL students. We enrolled students in Math labs for one period each day to enhance math skills. We had RTI specialists work with students who were struggling to intervene and fill in gaps. After school tutoring was intentional and SE specific based on students' individual needs. TRS unit assessment scores and MAP scores allowed us to identify struggling students and provide early intervention.

Lower grade levels have a common planning time to collaborate and plan. The RTI schedule is designed around student elective classes and pullout teachers alternate the days and times so that students are not pulled out of the same class each week. GT students are pulled out for special instruction or gain instruction through STEM classes or the DI class. There are designated days throughout the year where PLCs meet together to plan units and revise/review curriculum. Many of the district teachers serve on campus and district committees and are able to give input and be involved in decision-making. Teachers also serve as teacher leaders and presenters to share ideas and teaching strategies with other teachers in the district.Campus schedules meet student needs and allow students to be involved in co and extra-curricular activities.Vertical and horizontal PLCs support teachers through networking and alignment.
