Apologies by Saturday pm please
Our pleasure to welcome four members of Baldivis Rotary Club to our meeting tonight, they were taking part in a ‘Scatter Meeting’ program devised to have club members ‘Scatter’ and visit other group club on a given night. Lukarla McCready, Sue Lawson, Liam Duffy and Trevor Churcher decided they would join us for the evening, I hope they enjoyed the experience? Guest Speaker tonight was Stan Pisulak, who gave us a very interesting insight into ‘Leadership’ Congratulations Rtn. Lorraine Lucas on being awarded a ’Paul Harris Fellowship’ by our club last week. The award was to have been presented to Lorraine at our Changeover, because Lorraine finds it impossible to attend recent Monday meetings, President Stephen decided to present Lorraine with her award at Rotary Hall last Thursday. In recent years Lorraine has been at the forefront of many of our Youth programs and untiringly supports the needy and disadvantaged in our community. Well done Lorraine it’s fitting that your dedication and passion have been rewarded by your Rotary Club.

There are three kinds of people: Those who can count and those who can't.
Congratulations to Rotarian Lorraine Lucas who was recently presented with a Paul Harris Fellow. This wonderful lady works tirelessly to support the youth and underprivileged within our community. President Stephen Castelli had the pleasure of presenting Lorraine with her PHF. For a person to be named a Paul Harris Fellow, the respective Rotary club needs to donate US$1000 to the Rotary Foundation in that person's name, which indicates that the club thinks very highly of that person. Our best wishes and thanks to Lorraine for all her efforts over the past few years. (PP Genevieve Carr)

Club Service Report
Congratulation to Lorraine Lucas on her Paul Harris Fellow Award. We all are so in awe of
your amazing efforts for our community and the club as a whole.
Welcome to our four Baldivis visitors, Liam, Trevor, Lukarla and Sue. We appreciated your
coming to share time with us.
The 10 Pin Bowling afternoon was enjoyed by all 16 players in the field and two spectators
who ably handed out chocolates and kept score.
Many spot prizes were reward for all sorts of craziness throughout the afternoon. Several
bowlers excelled with Di Brown’s son Jordan achieving the most strikes.
Baldivis junior members played well with the help of everyone and were so well behaved.
Rockingham’s team kept the pace going at a snappy rate thanks to Sharyn’s knowledge of a
faster rotation.
Winners in both rounds were, Peter Phillips, Bob Cooper, Greg Williams and Joel Hunter so
we felt they should be declared winners. Thanks for your participation everyone.

Catering
I am thinking finger foods, such as sandwiches, sausage rolls, quiche slices, fruit platters, water
and cakes should be adequate given the short time frame for the meal and gift giving.
More about this soon so can you start to think about what you would most like to contribute?

DISTRICT 9465 CONFERENCE COLLIE 22 - 24 MARCH 2019
Rotary District 9465 Governor 2018/19 Robyn Yates
Visiting our club on Monday December 3rd
2018
I grew up with parents who were willing to put themselves out for others in need and so I was
comfortable at a young age in giving without expecting anything in return. I learnt how the smallest acts
of kindness could change someone’s day for the better and put a smile on a stranger’s face.
Joining the Rotary world has allowed me to continue to help others in need and I still marvel at how the
effects of the simplest act of kindness can last forever.
Rotary is indeed a phenomenal and unique organisation consisting of members worldwide. There are no
boundaries, we have different backgrounds and different cultures, yet we come together as one to better
the lives of those in need. Rotary International President, Barry Rassin, has designed the 2018-19 theme
logo on this basis-how the oceans and skies connect continents to come together as one.
An example of this is the tireless work being undertaken by Rotary to eradicate Polio worldwide. A
challenge deemed impossible in the beginning is now so close it’s almost unbearable to hear of new
cases. As heart breaking as it is, eight new cases in two countries this year is a far cry from the
beginning.
As Bill Gates has said “we are achingly close to getting rid of Polio; more than 99% of the way.
Finishing the job is the big challenge, but it is very doable, if we keep up the effort.” Bill Gates believes
in our work and through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has extended the two-for-one funding
agreement for another three years.
I also believe in this worthy cause, so much that I have chosen to support the world-wide project during
my term as District Governor. I would like all Clubs and even individual members, to consider making a
donation to continue eradication efforts; don’t forget, we need to be Polio free for three years before we
can announce that, finally, the world is Polio Free.
To entice your contributions I have decided to do something a little extreme in anticipation of the funds
that will be raised. At the District Conference Governor’s Gala Dinner in Collie on Saturday 23 March
2019 I will shave my head. I trust this will be an incentive for you to support the Polio eradication
programme.
I look forward to the next twelve months and visiting all the
Clubs in District 9465 and I thank you in anticipation of the
continued good work you do as Rotarians.

A couple lived near the ocean and used to walk the beach a lot.
One summer they noticed a girl who was at the beach almost every day.
She wasn't unusual, nor was the travel bag she carried, except for one thing; she would approach people who were sitting on the beach, glance around and then speak to them.
Generally, the people would respond negatively and she would wander off.
But occasionally someone would nod and there would be a quick exchange of money and something that she carried in her bag.
The couple assumed that she was selling drugs and debated calling the cops, but since they didn't know for sure, they decided to just continue watching her.
After a couple of weeks the wife said, 'Honey, have you ever noticed that she only goes up to people with boom boxes and other electronic devices?' He hadn't and said so.
Then she said, 'Tomorrow I want you to get a towel and our big radio and go lie out on the beach. Then we can find out what she's really doing.'
Well, the plan went off without a hitch and the wife was almost hopping up and down with anticipation when she saw the girl talk to her husband and then leave.
The man then walked up the beach and met his wife at the road.
'Well, is she selling drugs?' she asked excitedly.
'No, she's not,' he said, enjoying this probably more than he should have.
'Well, what is it then? What does she do?' his wife fairly shrieked.
The man grinned and said, 'She's a battery salesperson.'
'Batteries?' cried the wife.
'Yes!' he replied.
'She Sells C Cells by the Seashore!'
