Disorders of the Male Reproductive System
Sterility
• when a person is unable to reproduce
• both males and females may be sterile
• Some males are unable to healthy sperm, this can be caused by environmental factors that exposures to chemicals
• Mature males who develop mumps
• Medical research is still ongoing pertaining to sterility
Inguinal Hernia
• A hernia occurs when an organ of the body pushes outward through the wall that contains it
• Inguinal hernia is caused when part of the intestine pushes into the scrotum
• Surgery is necessary
Enlarged Prostate
• Common in middle aged men
• can cause pain or discomfort
• Does not indicate a disease or illness
• Since it surrounds the urethra it can make urination painful. Surgery is required
Undescended Testes
• When one of the testes do not descend into the scrotum at birth
• because the testes temperature may be too high this may inhibit the production of sperm or healthy sperm
• This can be corrected by surgery or even hormones
Cancer of testes and prostate
• An area of uncontrolled cell growth that invades and destroys tissue
• Surgical removal is usually necessary
