“Datability”, the lead theme at this year’s CeBIT, is defi ned as ”the ability to use large
volumes of data sustainably and responsibly at high speed”. It’s an area in which
Fraunhofer offers a whole range of solutions. With its outstanding research and wealth
of practical know-how, Fraunhofer gives companies the tools and skills they need to
develop business models from all this information. Twelve Fraunhofer units will be
showcasing 33 exhibits on big data, IT security, Industry 4.0, e-government, health,
and education and training.
Tying in with the theme of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research’s
2014 Year of Science and the Science in Dialog initiative, of which Fraunhofer is a
member, “Digital Society” is also a focus at this year’s CeBIT. It addresses the following
fundamental question: “How does the digital world infl uence our everyday lives at
home and at work?“

Production.digital
CeBIT grew out of the HANNOVER MESSE, the largest industrial exhibition in the
world. And over recent years, manufacturing has become unthinkable without IT,
whether it’s imaging, logistics, or safety technology. Fraunhofer researchers are
responding with innovative solutions to new market challenges in the fi elds of
manufacturing and control technology.

How do we protect ourselves against digital risks? Is that new app of mine to be
trusted? Fraunhofer is exhibiting new security solutions for use in a variety of areas,
including in optimized power grids, in the cloud, and in mobile communications.
Smart city.digital
If data is the petroleum of the digital world, how can we exploit it usefully?
Our exhibits cover topics such as the intuitive visualization of political decision-making
processes, citizen-friendly processes for public bodies, and software components for
multi-screen applications that will transform how we view “TV“.

How do we put all the digital information to best use? As well as developing new
internet services, such as websites that adapt dynamically to specifi c user groups,
Fraunhofer is also creating innovative solutions for collecting data: special cameras that
record information at mining sites for data analyses and that classify moving objects on
assembly lines.

Detecting health emergencies without violating the privacy of the sick and elderly means
walking a fi ne line between helping and monitoring them. Fraunhofer is exhibiting
practical solutions for use at home and elsewhere. Meanwhile, a mobile early warning
system helps in the fi ght against air pollution and cholera in hot spots around the world.

As well as being a popular employer, Fraunhofer offers advanced specialist and man-
agement training. We also support HR managers with an interactive, personalized
e-assessment, which is a very effi cient and objective tool for evaluating employees’
