3. MACHINE INFORMATION

Use and maintenance instruction manual EUROPLATFORM EP3125(Rev. 1.0)

The machine consists of one/two base frame made of steel sections, lying on the ground, whichsustains the entire vertical part of the machine. The base frame is equipped with leveling screws to

lay it flat and a braced mast section in triangular shape with side of 500 mm, on which the drive unittravels supporting the loading platform. The loading unit is floored with aluminum sheets andtreadplate sheets and is provided with protection guardrails.

The mast is made of modular elements, which allow a maximum height of 120 metres to be reached.The parts are easily and safely assembled by the personnel working from inside the loading unit.

The attachment of the vertical mast to the structure is secured by adequate anchor structures andan additional, appropriate platform is used for their assembly.The loading platform is lifted by means of a gear motors with a self-braking, electrics motors thatemploys a rack that is solidly connected to the mast; the motors unit, powered by an electric cable

gathered at the base of the machine, are controlled by the electrical control panel onboard.Gear motors are provided with manual brake release in case of electrical fault or any technical

failure. It allows the loading platform to descend by gravity as far as it would make the machine safeand operate on it.

Hereunder, are the descriptions of all the machine's components; those supplied as standard aswell as optional components which the client may opt for or may be specifically required due toparticular legislations in some countries.

3.5.1 Base unitThe base unit is composed of the metal base frame (1) equipped with four screw-jacks (2) with for

levelling the machine, the first mast section (3) and the drive unit (4) complete with two gear reducers,electric motors (5) that through pinions engage the rack of the mast.

The first mast section is fixed on the base frame that is made of structural steel sections. The baseframe has four rotating wheels (6) or can be equipped with a towing kit with pneumatic wheels tobe moved on the job site. In single mast configuration the machine has one base unit, while in twin

mast configuration are two of them Rotating wheels are useful to move the equipment on solidgrounds and to load it on the truck with the help of ramps. The towing kit with pneumatic wheels it isvery handy to move the machine in difficult grounds in the job site.

The four levelling screw jacks are mounted on the base frame. Screw jacks are adjustable in orderto reach a perfect levelling. A level gauge may be used for this purpose. When the perfect verticality

of the mast is achieved, the screw jacks can be blocked by means of nuts.

The frame of drive unit, the group that enables the movement of the equipment, is made of weldedmetal profiles. This frame is fixed to the work platform by means of apt pins. All components, suchas lifting elements, guide elements, lifting devices and limit switches are fixed on the drive unit. Themovement is performed by means of two epicycloidal gear reducers.

The gear reducers guarantee a lifting speed of about 10.6 m/min both in ascent and descent. Onthe drive unit there is a lever to unblock the brakes and bring the machine downward in case of

power interruption. This is of course a procedure to be used just in emergency cases.

An overrun micro switch in descent ensures the right function of the motor brakes. When this microswitch intervenes the power supply is cut, with an immediate consequential stop of the machine. Atthis point the malfunction of the motor brakes will be signalled. Motors are equipped with centrifugebrake that controls the speed in case of emergency manual descent.

Through connection pins (1) the drive unit is fixed to deck modules (2). Adjustable contrast rollers(3) allow regulating perfectly air gaps between the mast and the rollers themselves.

The equipment is provided with top and bottom limit switches that, together with their appositecams, let the platform stop at the top and at the bottom of the vertical mast. Further micro switches

(overrun limit switches) stop the equipment during emergency cases cutting the command circuit.

The machine in twin mast configuration is equipped with a levelling device that controls the horizontallevelling of the central span. This device constitutes of two micro switches that cut the power to oneof the two derive units, allowing the other one to move till when the central span is horizontal again.This device gets in function when the inclination of the central span exceeds the admitted parameters.

3.5.2 Access gateThe access sling door (1) as shown in fig. 3.6 allows the access to the work platform. Its design is

similar to the design of guardrails, but it is articulated as to be opened and closed easily. Theaccess to the work platform is from the drive unit (2) on the opposite part of the vertical mast. In twinmast configuration there are two access doors. Access doors are electrically controlled; thereforethe equipment does not move if the door is open or not correctly closed.

3.5.3 Access steps

Access to the work platform is achieved by means of three steps (1) as shown in fig. 3.7. Accesssteps are fixed on apposite holes on the base frame (2). Access steps are supplied along withevery machine (single and twin mast configuration).

3.5.4 Vertical mastThe mast is an upright prism with a triangular base measuring 400mm per side and 1.458m in

height. The mast is a lattice beam consisting of four main vertical supports (1) in circular cross-sectional rods having a diameter of 48mm, joined together by electrowelding in greek key design(2), made of reinforcing rod and other metal sections. The rack (3) is welded onto one of the threemain vertical supports with module 8, and at the two extreme ends of the mast there are theconnecting flanges (4), which join the other masts. These are joined by means of bolts and nuts,while the perfectly central alignment is guaranteed by four tapered couplings, which are situated

inside the rods. Accurate finishing with a numerically controlled machine tool guarantees perfectlyparallel sides of the mast, which are perfectly perpendicular to its main axis. Moreover, this processguarantees perfect conformity when passing through the section where two racks are joined.The masts are protected against corrosion by means of hot galvanisation. Their stability and perfect

verticality is secured by the wall anchors, which are available in various types and can cover variousdistances from the wall. The masts also support the cams, which employ the safety system and the

regular stop system of the loading unit.The terminal mast sections are painted in red to be easy individuated. On terminal mast sectionthe rack is welded only in the lower half part, constituting a further safety device. In fact, in case ofmalfunction of the top limit micro switch, it will prevent the drive unit to come out from the mast. Thefinal mast section is provided with a top limit cam too.

3.5.5 Vertical mast protectionA net panel (1) as shown in fig. 3.9 is installed on the drive unit. This protection avoids the contactwith the vertical mast that could be especially dangerous while the platform is moving.

3.5.6 Deck moduleWork platforms are made by deck modules.

The deck modules available are L= 1502 mm "normal deck module" (1) or L= 821 mm "short deckmodule (2).

Both single and twin mast configurations are made by a combination of the above deck modules.A crew of two can easily move the modules in order to avoid any lifting device, except for specialapplications.(for example in case of positioning of platform already mounted).

Deck modules are connected by pins (3) fixed by security gripping (4). The above-mentioned pinsare always supplied with each deck module.

Guardrail holders are welded on each deck module.

The deck module width can be extended, to get very close to the building façade by using telescopicwall extensions. Telescopic wall extensions have their seat inside the structural frame of each deckmodule.

Telescopic wall extensions can be partly or completely extracted according to the shape of thebuilding. Standard wall extensions can reach a width of 800 mm (on request for particular applications

longer extensions are available). At each extremity of telescopic extension n.1 guardrail holder (5)has to be inserted.

 In order to create a protection to the wall side, you can put horizontal wood boards (not supplied bythe manufacturer) on the post guardrails (fixed by guardrails holders) or guardrails if the dimensionsmatch.

The deck module's catwalk is made of multilayered marine panels. The wall extension's catwalkcan be made of 40 mm thick woods boards- those used in traditional scaffolding - with 19 mm thickmarine multilayered wood panels (if allowed by local laws) that is not supplied by the manufacturer,or aluminum tiles (supplied by Electroelsa on specific request).

3.5.7 GuardrailsGuardrails make a protection barrier on the external side opposite to the building. They are made

of tubular square bars and they are protected from corrosion by hot deep galvanization. Guardrailsgive an upper protection (2) by the upper band, a medium protection (3) by the middle band. Theguardrail's base is provided with a 200 mm galvanized protection band (4) to prevent the operatorfeet go out of the platform surface. These guardrails, as said above, can be used on the buildingfaçade side as well, provided that configurations and dimensions of wall extensions match.

Drive unit side guard rails are also supplied. They are protected from corrosion by hot deepgalvanization. The side guardrail's base is provided also with a 200 mm galvanized protectionband to prevent the operator feet go out of the platform surface. Their function is protecting theaccess door's sides.

3.5.8 Terminal guardrails

These guardrails "terminal guard rails"(5) are similar to those described above, but have special joint to be connected to male and female deck hinges.

3.5.9 Protection guard-rails on facade sideProtection guardrails on facade side are realized with the use of posts (1). These posts have three

supports for wood tables (not provided by the manufacturer). By this system a parapet is reconstitutedwith upper (2), medium (3) and lower (4) (for feet) protections like the standard ones. Wood tablescan be fixed in their supports with nails or screws (each allocation has a small hole for this purpose).Each post is inserted in its clamp (5). Clamps are fixed at the extreme points of telescopic wallextensions.

3.5.10 Wall anchorsThe anchor frame (1) is fixed to the mast section during assembly at a defined distance between

each other. This frame can be fixed on the mast at any level. The anchor frame is made of a 0,5 mvertical pipe (2) that can be completely used to fix wall anchors pipes. The maximum standarddistance between wall anchors is 6 m, while the last wall anchor can be distant from the top of 3metres.

For more detailed information about wall anchors and forces on them, consult the chapter dedicated

3.5.11 Control panelThe control panel can be installed on the central guardrail as shown in figure 3.15. The control

panel is equipped with a phase sequencer. To put into action the single mast configuration it isnecessary to use a special connector that closes the plug destined to the drive unit that in this casewill be not used. This device is used during installation when deck modules are connected to formthe central span. It is also used in the first installation phases. The control panel has two buttons thatcontrol separately the two drive units. This control device is utilized during the deck modulesassembling to create the central catwalk as well as during the first assembling steps. The red

palm-push emergency button is put on the front of the control panel. A joystick on the side of thecontrol panel allows the movement upward and downward of the work platform. This joystick is ahuman-operated device, therefore it must be kept pressed by the operator otherwise the machinestops.

The machine before moving emits an acoustic signal. Actually when you put the machine in operationthe first contact that closes is the one of the acoustic signal, afterwards the one that gives power to

the engines. The time that passes from the closing of the first contact to the second can be adjustedthrough a timer inside the control panel. On the side of the control panel, there is a plug for 220 Vpower for small tools to be used on the platform. This plug gives power up to 6 kVA.

3.5.12 Power cableThe cable is normally hanged in the central part of the machine on a tube of the parapets in the twin

mast configuration, while in single mast configuration is put on the side. The power cable lays onthe ground and rolls and unrolls on a reel freely.

3.5.13 Angle deck modules for round platformsThe angle module device to create round platforms ( fig. 3.16) is composed by n.2 metallic frames

 joined by hinges which allow the operator to adjust the angle at the needed opening for a maximumopening of 15°.This modules are supplied with the same fixing system of regular deck modules in order to beeasily mounted and create the round shape of the platform ( fig. 3.17). The angle modules aresupplied with screws to fix the opening required. The variable angle permits to create differentplatforms with different diameters.

We can execute round platform shapes in both senses by placing the angular module with thehinges externally ( fig. 3.18) or internally ( fig. 3.19) of round works.

3.7 INTENDED USEThe machine's specific use is:

 — for traditional construction work, facade improvement and general restoration work; — for work that requires considerable height; — to be used together with traditional scaffolding; — to be used together with a crane tower; — for works carried out with climbing formwork technology.

The machine is designed to provide the user with the following advantages: — transport material, persons and work equipment safely, efficiently and economically; — optimise and rationalise the work process in a modern construction site; — easy assembly and disassembly requiring only two people;

 — safety during operation, assembly, disassembly and when the structure may be repositioned toother parts of the construction site;

 — conformity with all existing international regulations for this type of machine.

DANGER

Safe operation of the machine is guaranteed only for the functions and materiallisted in this instruction manual. ELECTROELSA disclaims all responsibility ifthe machine is not used in accordance with the purposes indicated and inconformity with the instructions stipulated in this manual.

3.8 NORMAL CONDITIONS OF STORAGEStorage of the machine's various components does not require particular environmental conditions.The only recommendation is to store the equipment in a place where water infiltration is avoidedas much as possible, as in the long run, this may affect the reliability of the machine's electricalsystem. Do not cover the machine or its components with synthetic fabrics or plastic in order toprevent condensation from forming. If the machine and its components are stowed when wet, always

ensure that the place where they are stowed is adequately ventilated.

3.9 STORAGE CONDITIONS WITH TEMPERATURES REACHING A MINIMUM OF -20°C

If the machine is stored in a closed and heated place so as to protect it from the elements, noparticular precautions need to be taken, as long as the temperature is kept higher than -20°C. Afterhaving stored the machine outdoors, with temperatures close to -20°C, it is necessary to check for

any structural damage caused by water infiltration and subsequent freezing.

Page 51: Dış Cephe Çalışma Platformu_Mast Climbing Work Platform

3. MACHINE INFORMATION

Use and maintenance instruction manual EUROPLATFORM EP3125(Rev. 1.0)

3.10 STORAGE CONDITIONS WITH TEMPERATURES LOWER THAN -20°CThe following precautions must be taken when storage temperatures are lower than -20°C:

 — drain the oil from the gear motor;

ATTENTION

Always remember to put oil in the gear motor before putting the machine backinto operation.

 — disassemble the brake rectifiers (guaranteed up to -25°C), and mount them once again beforeputting the machine back into operation, ensuring that they are connected correctly;

 — when the machine is put back into operation, systematically replace the sealing rings of thegear motor's output shaft, as low temperatures change their conformation and no longerguarantee the sealing effect;

 — when the machine is put back into operation, systematically replace all bearings, as theirprotection seals tend to become brittle. Alternatively, when placing the order, you may point outthis particular storage condition so that ELECTROELSA can mount particular bearings which

are more suitable; — in order to protect the electrical system from damage caused by low temperatures, disassemble

the electrical control panel and the motor cable sheaths and store them in a dry, heated placeor either way in a place where the temperature is not lower than -20°C.

3.11 AMBIENT WORKING CONDITIONS

The machine is designed and constructed to be used in temperature conditions which are notlower than -10°C/-15°C. If the machine is used at such temperatures, the only requirement is to uselubricating oil for the epicyclic gear system as indicated in the table attached, regarding workingtemperatures ranging from -15°C to +25°C.Temperatures lower than -15°C do not provide sufficient reliability from the fitting components ofthe electric motors, generators, etc. and more importantly from the mechanical behaviour of themachine's structural components, as they tend to weaken at low temperatures. Therefore, in either

case, do not start-up the machine if the temperature is close to or lower than -20°C.

4.1 PREAMBLEThe wall anchors are the structural components that confer stability and prevent the machine from

tipping over during assembly and disassembly, but above all, they reduce and contain the"slenderness" of the vertical mast, always within specific safety values.

ATTENTION

A machine which is installed with the vertical mast measuring more than 6 metresfrom the ground, must always be anchored to the facade of the structure inquestion.

When a prismatic column is subject to high compressive stresses, or to a peak load (the verticalmast is a classic example) lateral buckling can occur, thus creating very dangerous situations.Such conditions occur when the compressed column is excessively "slender"."Slenderness" refers to the ratio of the effective length of a mast to the least radius ofgyration of its cross-section.As mentioned earlier on, the vertical mast usually reaches a considerable height for installation to

be carried out, and the ratio between its length and its cross-section results in having an unacceptable"slenderness". This condition would cause lateral buckling, which would result in structural failure.The anchors are the bond between the mast and the structure in question, and prevent such anincident from happening by reducing the free standing length of the mast to reach safety values.The reason behind this necessary preamble is to (moderately) highlight and stress theimportance of the wall anchors.

The next few pages refer to the recommendations and emphasis on operating with utmost attentionwhen handling its implementation, paying particular attention to the quality and type of walling, thechoice of mounting components (toggle bolts, chemical dowels, etc.), the actual physical labourrequired, verification of the effective hold of the mounting components and the layout of the anchorsrequired, in accordance with any particular situations within the construction site.

ATTENTION

The wall anchors are one of the most important structural components of themachine. They ensure that the vertical mast maintains its verticality and confersits static stability. Integrity and efficiency of the wall anchors must be checked

frequently while using the machine. The practical work related to the anchorsmust be left in the hands of personnel who have particular expertise, andconsequently, the efficiency and effectiveness of the hold of the mountingcomponents must be meticulously verified.

DANGER

An approximate and superficial assessment of the installation conditions isthe greatest and most common cause of accidents, often with a fatal outcome.

4.2 WALL ANCHORSWhen the height of the machine exceeds 3÷6 metres, the vertical structure must be anchored to the

building.There are two types of anchors; in both cases they are composed as follows: — anchor frame; — strengthening cross pipe; — wall anchor extension.

The anchor frame indicated in the figure 4.1 is made of a 0.5 m long and 48.3 mm thick (diameter)pipe (1). This pipe is tied to the vertical mast by means of with two brackets (2) that are welded onthe mast itself. The wall extensions (4) are the connection between the anchor frame and the buildingwall; they can be fixed all along the anchor frame pipe (1) (depending on the building configurations)

by means of fixed orthogonal clamps (5) (like those used on traditional scaffolding).Wall extensions are made of a pipe with 48.3 mm diameter, 3.2 mm thickness and 1 metre as

standard length. Each wall extension has its wall plate (6). The maximum wall anchor interval canbe 6 metres.

The anchor frame is fixed to the vertical mast during the installation, respecting the intervals thatthe machine configuration requires.The strengthening cross pipe (3) gives robustness to the complete wall anchor.

The wall platt of the wall extentions indicated in the figure 4.2 can be one of three types : — Wall-plate type 1 (1);

 — Wall-plate type 2 (2); — Wall-plate type 3 (3).

WALL –PLATE TYPE 1The wall-plate type 1 has two staggered holes compared to the rotation axe of the wallextension. This solution allows a simple screwing of wall expanding plugs.

ATTENTION

The fixing of the wall-plate type 1 has to be carried out with two expanding

plugs with suitable mechanical resistance, able to sustain the force exercisedon the wall anchor. The expanding plug dimensions must be, anyway, not smallerthan M12.

WALL –PLATE TYPE 2The wall-plate type 2 has just one hole for expanding plug; therefore it is a good solution when it isrequired to perform as fewer holes on the wall as possible.The fixing expanding plug dimensions, of course, must be bigger.

ATTENTION

The fixing of the wall-plate type 2 has to be carried out with one expanding plugwith suitable mechanical resistance, able to sustain the force exercised on thewall anchor. The expanding plug dimensions must be, anyway, not smaller thanM16.

WALL –PLATE TYPE 3The wall-plate type 3 has two aligned holes compared to the rotation axe of the wall extension.

This solution allows the fixing when the floor slab is particularly thin.

ATTENTION

The fixing of the wall-plate type 1 has to be carried out with two expandingplugs with suitable mechanical resistance, able to sustain the force exercisedon the wall anchor.The expanding plug dimensions must be, anyway, not smaller than M12.

On request, longer or shorter wall extensions are available.All wall anchor components are protected from environmental corrosion by means of electrolyticgalvanisation and consequent passivation.

DANGER

IMPORTANT! ! ! It is mandatory for the installation technician to consult thismanual before performing anchoring procedures.

The installation technician must know the forces that anchorage induces on the structure

serviced by it, and to assure that the structure can withstand such forces. The technician has tochoose the appropriate fasteners depending on the wall masonry. If the work platform is planned to

be used together with traditional scaffolding, all measurements must calculated specifically for thatconfiguration. If anchorage type is not listed in this manual, the construction supervisor must receivean explicit authorization from ELECTROELSA. Anchoring procedures must be performed onlyfrom an appropriate assembly platform or using comparably efficient and reliable aids such as a

hydraulic lift, scaffolding, existing balconies, etc. Workers must wear personal protection devicessuch as harness, hardhat, construction boots, and gloves. While performing anchoring the workermust stay within the limits of the platform or other structure mentioned above and not lean out of it.It is also prohibited to climb the vertical column or any other protruding part of the work platform anduse them in place the above-mentioned systems.ELECTROELSA disclaims any responsibility if these instructions were violated or not followed.

4.2.1 Interval between anchorsThe interval between anchors depends on various factors, for instance the profile of the building to

which the hoist is being attached.In the following pages you can find wall anchor intervals admitted both in single and twin mastconfiguration. In any case, maximum interval between anchors must not exceed 6 m (approximately20 ft.).

As shown in the following appropriate diagrams, the maximum allowed distance between the ground

and the first anchor, depends on the positioning of outriggers (stabilisers) and accordingly to maxwind speed allowed in operation (12.7 m/sec).

ATTENTION

Stabiliser configurations reported here below are the only admitted.

4.2.2 Free column height allowed above the top anchorRegardless of the anchorage type, the maximum column height allowed above the top anchor is 6

m (approx. 20 ft.) Always refer to the appropriate diagrams and take the wind factor in consideration.When in doubt choose the more conservative.

4.2.3 Assembly conditions in freestanding configurationThe equipment structure allows working in freestanding configuration (without any wall anchor) upto 6 metres (3 mast section plus terminal mast section) In this configuration, the following limitations

have to be taken into account: — max wind speed 12,5 m/sec; — max lifting height 6 metres.

In this configuration the equipment stabilisers must obligatorily be in 45° position.

DANGER

It is strictly forbidden to use the equipment in freestanding configuration if theabovementioned conditions are not respected.

4.2.4 Forces on the wall anchorsForces exercised on wall anchors are mainly due to wind conditions when the machine is out ofservice and when the machine in full load condition passes or stops near the wall anchor. The

building structure must be of course in condition to bear these forces. It is very important to usesuitable expanding plugs according to the wall type.In case the work platform will be anchored to the traditional scaffolding it is compulsory to verify itsstate and stability.

4.2.5 Anchorage typesThe building part most appropriate for performing anchorage is a floor slab made of reinforced

concrete. Such material allows performing a strong and sturdy anchor installation using extendingplugs of adequate strength to support the machine.

Another solutions are possible as follows: — when a building wall or oddly-shaped structures (windows, terraces, obelisks), cannot resist

the above-mentioned forces on the anchor;

 — when special techniques are used, such as facade remodelling using isolating panels or glasspanels.

In these cases anchorage of a yoke type is the solution that meets the construction requirements.

Windows or internal metal beams can be used for anchoring. This type of anchorage is performedonly when critical for the continuation of work.

In special anchorage cases, when only one plug is used per anchor bar, or when the extension barsare extremely elongated, it is necessary to use oversized plugs and a supporting traverse to makethis type of anchorage as strong as it would have been under normal circumstances.

Consult with an expert and contact ELECTROELSA Technical Support to decide if a special onsiteinvestigation to obtain an authorization.

ELECTROELSA disclaims any responsibility for unauthorized anchor installation, or if the installationis performed using inappropriate techniques even if those are approved by the builder. ConsultELECTROELSA Technical Support with special installation cases.

DANGER

Approximation during installation is a major and most frequent cause ofaccidents.

IMPORTANT ! ! ! It is a complete responsibility of the installation technician to: supervise and give

proper operation instructions, provide safety procedures, assure the use of personal protectiondevices, use a proper location, control the quality of work such as using parts of proper diameter,drilling holes of proper depths, applying proper torque to bolts and nuts.

5. HANDLING AND TRANSPORTATION

Use and maintenance instruction manual EUROPLATFORM EP3125(Rev. 1.0)

5.1 INTRODUCTION AND PRELIMINARY OPERATIONSThe area to be used for preparation of the material, loading, unloading, temporary storage or

warehousing must have clear signs and closed off, in such a way so as to prevent access to outsidersor anyhow not authorised.

ATTENTION

The operations of preparing, packaging, transporting, handling, loading andunloading the machine, must be carried out by personnel who are experiencedand/or properly trained.

The operations of preparing, packaging, handling, loading and unloading the machine must becarried out by personnel who is trained appropriately and effectively and directly monitored by thesite manager (SUPERVISOR) who has to ensure that the above mentioned operations are carriedout up to standard, in compliance with all the safety conditions whilst meticulously adhering to theinstructions found within this instruction manual.

DANGER

An approximate assessment of the installation conditions is the greatest andmost common cause of accidents, often with a fatal outcome.

All the components constituting the machine must be meticulously checked and examined before

making them available for a new installation, in order to remove any parts which may be broken,deformed, cracked, corroded or affected by other factors, and no longer ensure sufficient reliability.Once the load is set in place, one must absolutely ensure its stability, and this must be done with asufficient quantity of belts, ropes etc. arranged in the most appropriate ways and of adequate

sturdiness in order to block the load in question.

ATTENTION

The members of staff, qualified and trained in carrying out the operations ofpreparing, packaging, transporting, handling, loading and unloading themachine, must be equipped with suitable equipment, according to the particular

risks they may be exposed to and individual protection gear such as, workgloves, hard hat, safety footwear with non-slip soles and reinforced metal aswell as a toe-cap (200 J), safety belts with shoulder straps having hook

components, and a high visibility jacket.

5. HANDLING AND TRANSPORTATION

Use and maintenance instruction manual EUROPLATFORM EP3125(Rev. 1.0)

5.2 TRANSPORTATIONThe packaging of the modular components constituting the machine is designed primarily to redu-

ce clutter, as much as possible. It consists of particular packaging because the various galvanisedmetal components are tied together in various ways with galvanised mild steel wire but are notplaced inside particular containers. This particular type of packaging greatly facilitates the processof unloading the material; it is obligatory to use a crane or a lift truck (forklift) to unload the material,due to the weight as well as for reasons of safety of personnel; moreover, in this way, the materialis handled with care when in movement and damage is avoided.

The various small components are placed inside proper packaging, inside appropriate cardboardboxes and these are grouped together with all the machine's accessories.The electric control panel are placed onboard the machine and therefore do not require particularattention, apart from the necessary precautions when handling and transporting the machine.

Normally, the same type of components are packed together; the machine components are loaded

as follows: — the first components to be loaded are all the packages of the masts, previously packed together

in groups of seven or nine units (depending on the measurement of the loading unit of thetransport vehicle). In order to increase and guarantee greater compactness and stability of theload, the various packages are tied together with galvanised mild steel wire;

 — deck modules are loaded, and arranged vertically close to the masts, one close to each other

based on their length; — after the positionning of deck modules drive units/s are loaded; — when the base unit has been loaded, all accessories are stored where is possible (clamps,

wall anchor extensions, floor fixing brackets for the anchor system, set of wrenches furnishedwith the machine, braking pads, etc.) and when possible, packed inside appropriate cardboardboxes, which can be moved by means of a lift truck in order to facilitate and speed up theprocesses of loading and unloading in the construction site. This method allows the load to bedistributed as uniformly as possible onto the transport vehicle, obtaining a centre of gravityposition on the vehicle's centre line, and placed as close as possible to the axle of the drivingwheels.

5. HANDLING AND TRANSPORTATION

Use and maintenance instruction manual EUROPLATFORM EP3125(Rev. 1.0)

Fig. 5.1 Fig. 5.2

5.3 HANDLINGTransportation of the machine must be carried out in compliance with the Highway Code that is in

force in the locality where it must be carried out, even if the distance covered is short, from oneconstruction site to another.With regards to transportation for the first installation, ELECTROELSA uses a tested positioningsystem, to place the various components of the machine onto the various transport vehicles. Thisallows the warehousing department to establish the exact overall dimensions and therefore, thecapacity that the transport vehicle is required to have for any type of arrangement of hoist which is

to be dispatched. This positioning system is valid for the classic type of transportation by truck aswell as for transportation by container. The handling procedure described below can be consideredas a general rule, applicable for every trip the machine will make during its operational life.

The general criteria to be followed, in order to avoid any damage when handling the machine whentransporting it from one construction site to another, mainly concerns the manoeuvres when loading

and unloading, which are critical stages during which considerable damage can be done.Consequently, the members of staff who are responsible for these operations must: — use lift trucks as shown in figure 5.1 or cranes as shown in figure 5.2, when handling the material.

The crane used can be the one forming part of the transportation vehicle itself or any other usedin the construction site. It is absolutely necessary for the lifting equipment to have adequatestrength to lift the load;

 — always ensure that the material to be lifted, which may consist of a packed group of componentsor a single component of the machine, does not accidentally hook onto other components,dragging them high up;

Page 67: Dış Cephe Çalışma Platformu_Mast Climbing Work Platform

 — if the package that is being lifted consists of the same type of components and these are joined together, ensure that the binding tie, which usually consists of a tie made with galvanised

mild steel wire, is intact and adequately strong enough; — not apply any means to the components of the machine, in any way, to facilitate the lifting

process, such as metal eye bolts, which could cause structural damage to various componentsof the machine;

 — use flexible belts, which are allowed, arranging them in a suitable layout for the component tobe strapped correctly when lifted, in accordance with the load capacity that the belt itself can

sustain; — avoid, in every way, knocking the load against any other components of the machine or against

the ground; — ensure that when the material is made to rest on the ground, it can maintain its stability.

When the machine is lifted, you must avoid this from jerking or swinging abruptly, and you must also

pay utmost attention when resting this on the ground, which must be done in such a way so as notto damage the levelling bolts (if presents).

DANGER

It is absolutely forbidden to stay in the operating area of the lifter while themachine's components are lifted and moved.

ATTENTIONDuring the un/loading stage, which will be described further on, or any otherstages of work that involve lifting material, for no reason whatsoever shouldanyone pass or stay under the suspended load.

5.4 LOADING AND UNLOADING

In order to optimise all subsequent stages of work, before proceeding to load or unload the machine,

carry out the operations described below: — close off the area where operations of loading and unloading the machine are carried out, in a

clear and unequivocal manner, and enclose its perimeter in an effective manner, to preventpossible access to outsiders or persons anyhow not authorised. Bear in mind that the subsequent

operations will be implemented at a substantial height from the ground and should any componentor equipment accidentally fall, it can result in immediate and serious danger;

 — ensure that the floor on which the equipment constituting the machine is to be placed, is horizontaland sufficiently stable, so not to cause dangerous situations of the equipment tipping over,collapsing or subsiding;

 — unload the machine from the transport vehicle using a crane or lift truck which has an appropriate

lifting system. If using a lift truck, the lifting attachments can be placed on the lower part of thebase unit. If using a crane, strap the machine from the base unit with belts which have anadequate load capacity. In both cases the machine must be perfectly balanced;

 — for no reason whatsoever should anyone pass or stay under suspended loads during this stageand the other stages, which will be described further on, of un/loading. If using a crane, only theoperator will be authorised to handle the suspended load in order to facilitate its correctpositioning when it reaches a height of 0.2 m from the ground. If using a lift truck only the driver

of the same truck will be authorised to carry out the operations. All other persons will have to tayat a distance, where they cannot be affected in case of the load accidentally tipping over andthey have to remain there until the operation is carried out completely. It is absolutely necessaryfor individual protection gear to be worn during these operations (hard hats, gloves, safety

shoes with toe-caps, high visibility jackets, etc); — unload the remaining material and accessories constituting the machine and distribute them in

an orderly and safe manner within the closed off area. Ensure that the material placed on theground cannot, in any way, accidentally move, constitute a danger to persons working nearbyor subsequently interfere when moving the machine;

 — if part of the material has been placed in the free spaces inside the machine, or componentshave been placed in rows lying on top of each other (to optimise space allocation), remove thematerial from this layout and place it on the ground before carrying out any other handling

operation.

DANGERClose off the area where operations of loading and unloading the machine arecarried out, in a clear and unequivocal manner and prevent possible access tooutsiders or persons anyhow not authorised to enter this area. Should anycomponents or equipment accidentally fall from a substantial height whenloading or unloading, this can result in immediate and serious danger.

6.2 PRELIMINARY OPERATIONSBefore starting the installation of the machine, carry out the following operations:

 — delimitate the unload and instal lation area with a fence avoiding the access ofunauthorisedpersonnel. It is important to remind that installation operations take place at adeterminate height from the ground; therefore accidental fall of components constitutes realdanger for people on the ground;

 — verify the condition of the ground where the equipment is placed according to the indicationsgiven in the chapter of this manual dedicated to foundation for the placement of the equipment.

 — unload the truck by means of suitable elevating devices. If you use the forklift to unload the baseunit, lift it from the base frame. Put forks between the base frame and the ground. In case youuse a crane, put appropriate belts near levelling screw jacks (in four points) so that the machineis balanced;

 — during unloading phase for no reason personnel should stand under hanging loads. In case ofcrane operations, only the operator is allowed to be near the load in order to place it on the

ground (only when the load is 0,2 m from the ground). If operations are carried out by forklift, allpersonnel exception mad for the forklift driver, must keep away from the operation area. Duringthese operation personnel must wear individual safety protection devices, such us hardhat,gloves, construction boots;

 — once the base unit is unload, unload the remaining parts and place them tidily in the delimitatedarea.

DANGER

6.4 ASSEMBLYThe work platform must adhere to the standards and regulations of the country where it is to be

used. These regulations are of a generic nature and must be implemented based on each specificcase. For assembly and operation of the work platform follow the procedures listed below.

ATTENTION

Only authorized and trained personnel must perform all assembly anddisassembly work.

6.5 ASSEMBLY OF THE EQUIPMENT

Before starting the installation, verify that the complete installation area, as well as the area alongthe deck, is completely free of any obstacle or juts fixed or mobile that could hamper the movementof the machine. Electric lines must be at least 5 m far from the equipment area.

Here below the assembly phases are listed chronologically:

 — Preparation of the installation area. — Positioning of the drive unit. — Deck modules connection. — Accessory assembly. — Control panel installation.

 — Definitive positioning of the machine. — Electric wiring. — Mast erection. — Levelling system installation. — Adjustment of the mechanical levelling device. — Adjustment of the electric levelling device. — Test of the levelling system in descent.

6.5.1 Preparation of the assembly areaAs already said, the installation area must be free from obstacle, clean and as more levelled as

possible. The safety of the installation phase strongly depends on the condition of the area; thereforetake much care in preparing the installation zone.

6.5.1.1 Foundation for positioning the machineFor the machine to be positioned correctly, it is of vital importance to carefully evaluate the

consistency of the ground it is to rest on, ensuring that the pressure in the specific points of contactwith the base unit is adequate. If the supporting feet alone do not provide adequate security, eitheran appropriate boarding structure must be put in place (crossing a number of axes) or structureswhich are suitable for spreading the superficial pressure, resulting in acceptable values, are to becreated. This operation is of fundamental importance because if the supports had to give way, thiswould cause the mast to lose its verticality and the anchors would be pulled downwards. Such a

situation would be of absolute and imminent danger for the machine's stability. The operator hasthe responsibility of verifying this particular detail and act accordingly to that which is stated in thismanual. As an example we can assume that the fully loaded machine, with a 50 metre anchoredmast, generates a pressure on the ground of approximately 2.5 MPa on every support. In accordance

with standard practice in civil engineering, the following are considered to be acceptable pressures:

for solid ground = 0.4 - 1.0 Mpa;for non-solid ground (e.g. sand) = 0.2 MPa.

Refer to the machine's table of weights to check the actual ground pressure for every installationand adopt the relative foundation criteria.When assembly is carried out with a free standing mast and the base unit is anchored to the

ground, it is fundamental to create an adequate concrete slab or use a metal plate; in both cases,the minimum measurements must be 2x2.2 m and not weighing less than 1000 kg.

The concrete slab must be made in accordance with the following instructions:- the concrete must be perfectly vibrated;- the finished surface must be perfectly level and smooth;- the foundations can be made in either one of the following ways, depending on the desired levelof the finished surface of the concrete slab in respect to the ground.

6.5.1.2 Concrete slab resting on the groundThe concrete slab made to rest on the ground has the following advantages and disadvantages:advantage: it is not required to be drained;disadvantage: high threshold.

6.5.1.3 Concrete slab level with the groundThe concrete slab level with the ground has the following advantages and disadvantages:advantage: it is not required to be drained;disadvantage: the loading unit's platform has a high threshold.

The concrete slab level with the ground is the most common type of foundation. Normally, a ramp ismade in wood or steel, in order to reach the threshold level of the platform.

6.5.1.4 Concrete slab below ground levelThe concrete slab below ground level has the following advantages and disadvantages:

advantage: no height threshold between the ground level and the loading unit's platform;disadvantage: corrosion; if water remains in the foundations and it is not perfectly drained.

This alternative requires the ground to be drained carefully.It is very important that the foundation remains insulated from the surrounding ground, otherwiseyou must prevent the surrounding ground from freezing.

6.5.1.5 Boarding structure support for surfaces which are not so solidIf the machine must be installed on a surface which is not so solid and therefore cannot guaranteeto resist the actual pressure exerted by each supporting foot, it is recommended to create a boarding

structure as reinforcement in order for the force to be distributed correctly.

In order to distribute the pressure on the ground in an optimal way, we can say that the linearmeasurements of the machine's support must be amplified by following a total angle of about 90°.This is created by inserting a number of planks under the support itself and these must have a widthwhich increases slightly as you go along, until reaching the condition shown in figure 6.1.The height of the boarding structure which is to be created is therefore directly proportional to theincrease in the base unit support, which must be attained and can be calculated by using the

following formula:

F = pressure exerted on every supporting foot (MPa) - (1 MPa = 10 bar = 10 daN/cm²);A = total width of the supporting board on the ground (cm);a = width of the machine's supporting foot (cm);H = height of the boarding structure which is to be made (cm).

A - aH = 2

6.5.2 Drive units placementThe drive units must be placed on the ground according to the installation layout. The drive unit

weight must be evenly distributed on its support points. Please check the robustness of the supportsurface and in case the machine lays on a balcony or other surface, verify if the structure can bearthe total weight of the machine.In order to consider the total weight of the machine, use the following scheme. The scheme reportsthe total weight of the equipment at several heights. To this weight you have to add the nominallifting capacity of the machine.

6. INSTALLATION

Use and maintenance instruction manual EUROPLATFORM EP3125(Rev. 1.0)

Once the drive units (1) are placed, adjust the levelling screw jacks (2) making the base frame (3)levelled with the help of the suitable key. This is an important operation because the four screw

 jacks support the total load of the e equipment. A faulty levelling creates consequently a faultydistribution of weights, overloading some of them and creating damage to the structure.

Once the base frame (3) is levelled, put the outriggers (6) (stabilizers) in position and block theirscrew jacks (5) through the blockage hand (7).Outriggers have the only function to stabilize the machine, preventing it from capsizing in case of

faulty operation situations (such as faulty distribution of weights, sudden wind blasts… ect.)Therefore, the static weight must not rest on outrigger screw jacks, but on base frame screw jacks.

ATTENTION

During installation, firstly adjust base frame screw jacks, secondly outriggerscrew jacks. Do not change this order.

For a faster comprehension of the installation procedures, see drawings reported in the following

chapters.

Protection guardrails on façade side are realising with the use of posts (1). These posts have threesupports for wood tables (not provided by the manufacturer). By this system a parapet is reconstituted

with upper (4), medium (3) and lower (2) (for feet) protections like the standard ones. Wood tablescan be fixed in their supports with nails or screws (each allocation has a small hole for this purpose).

In order to get near to the building façade, in case the building structure requires the machine to bedistant from the wall, you can use wall telescopic extensions (5). They can be extracted accordingto the required length and blocked with appropriate screws. In order to create the protection guardrail,

use posts (1). Each post is inserted in its clamp (5). Clamps are fixed at the extreme points oftelescopic wall extensions.

The wall extension floor can be made with wood tables according to the following characteristics:

 — appropriate thickness to bear the load, anyway not less than cm 4;

 — width not less than cm 20; — fthe direction of wood fibres must be parallel to the longitudinal axe of the table. Wood table

must be fixed tightly to telescopic extensions, preventing from moving or shifting.

The machine is moreover equipped with a red palm-push emergency button.

ASSEMBLY OVERRUN MICRO-SWITCHThis device is composed of a wheel micro switch that runs on the vertical mast. If this wheel microswitch does not detect the presence of the mast, it cuts immediately the power to the motors andprevents the drive unit to come out of the mast. Once this device intervened, there are two way toput the machine in function again:

 — release the brakes manually for a short trait; — pull towards you the wheel micro switch bracket as if the mast section is present and press

down the operation lever to perform descent.

This device can be used as normal overrun micro switch in case of particular installation where the

terminal mast is not assembled.

BOTTOM OVERRUN LIMIT MICRO SWITCHThis micro switch is fixed on the lower part of the drive unit together with the descent limit switch.

The two micro switch are practically identical but the bottom overrun limit micro switch is placedhigher and it intervenes and stop the engine only if the descent micro switch does not function andthe platform continue its descent.

This device intervenes in the following cases:

 — when the descent micro switch is broken; — when the platform slips down a little bit before definitely stopping. This normally happens when

motor brakes worn; — when we perform manual descent by releasing the brakes and the machine stops on base

frame buffers;

 — in case of inverted phase. The machine moves contrarily and when you try to start it, it movesdown instead of climbing.

DOOR LOCK SAFETY MICRO SWITCHThis microswitch is placed on the access sliding door. The micro switch is placed under the platformgate and determinates if the door is open or closed. In case the door if open, the micro switch cutsthe power to the main control panel. If this happens check the integrity of the micro switch and thecorrect positioning of the access gate.

RED PALM-PUSH EMERGENCY BUTTONThe emergency button is placed on the control panel. If activated, it cuts power to the main control

panel. Once activated it remains pressed and in order to release it you need to rotate it rightwards.

8.4 FUNDAMENTAL SAFETY PROVISIONSOver the years a series of accidents have been registered during assembly and disassembly of

rack and pinion lifting equipment. These accidents were caused by human factor, such as negligencein obeying the safety regulations or lack of common sense. This document is for all personnel andother workers involved in assembly and disassembly operations, or those assisting them.For example, if a worker leans out of the moving assembly platform opening a cable guide rack ora wall anchor on the way can hit him. Another example is incomplete tightening of the trellis bolts.

Such negligence can cause the trellis sections to separate and platform fall resulting in injuries andpossible fatalities.Many other examples can be cited. To avoid such accidents read thoroughly the instructions in thismanual. Do not put yourself in danger; operate the equipment properly.

8.4.1 General safety regulationsFollow the procedures listed below during equipment installation, operation, and maintenance:

 — read all instructions and warnings. Pay attention to danger signs; — keep the operating area clean. Remove oil spills to avoid accidental tripping. Reduce the risk

of stumbling by removing unnecessary materials (disassembled equipment parts or other)from the operating area;

 — do not move the platform if a person is inside the base enclosure, on the trellis, or on an; — complete one part of work before starting another or taking a break. This is particularly important

for installation operations while trellises are being mounted, or anchors and other structuresare being installed;

 — apply the required torque when tightening bolts (it is also advisable to use a dyno wrench), as

indicated in the appropriate specifications table; — stop equipment operation immediately after noticing any structural damage or s i gn i f i ca n t

corrosion of column sections or trellis anchorage. The damage must be identified and repairs

performed before the hoist can be operated again (these operations must be performed byauthorized and trained personnel, or ELECTROELSA Technical Support must be contacted).

8.6 OTHER RISKSThis paragraph has the purpose to underline possible risks derived from the used of the work

platform such as: — risks derived from unusual applications not indicated by the manufacturer, — risks derived from an erroneous positioning of the machine; — risks derived from the transport of the machine; — risks derived from an erroneous assembly of the machine on the ground;

 — risks derived from an erroneous erection of the machine; — risks derived from function tests; — risks derived from the normal operation of the machine; — risks during disassembly.

For each situation described above, in the following paragraph we provide you the description ofpossible risks and suitable safety procedures.

8.6.1 Risks derived from unusual applications not indicated by the manufacturerBefore the machine installation, verify that the machine dimensions are suitable to the building onwhich the machine has to work.

In order to verify this, you need to look at the drawing of the project and at the Instruction manual.

Possible risks: — dimension differences between the project and the real dimension of the building and/or the

machine; — presence of obstacles at any height that could hamper the run on the machine; — wall anchor checks;

 — mistakes in the installation configuration of the platform.

Prevention and safety measures: — the actual dimension of the building must be measured accurately. The responsible of the

installation musts check accurately if platform dimensions and wall extension dimensions arewithin those allowed;

 — check if there are suspended cable (power cables, telephone cables and so no) that could

hamper the run of the platform. In that case, study another configuration or remove where possiblethose obstacles;

 — the responsible of the installation must ascertain the positions at which the wall anchors mustbe made according to the instruction manual. If the situation on the building site does not allowthe use of the standard solutions laid down in this instruction manual, each anchor must besubject to a project drawn up and signed by an engineer;

 — the responsible for installation must check that the installation is carried out as described in theproject.

8.6.2 Risks derived from an erroneous positioning of the machineThe platform must be installed exactly as indicated in the project, paying attention to the robustness

of the ground surface carrying the total load of the machine.

Possible risks: — the ground can not carry the total load of the machine; — presence of hollows or underground tunnels;

 — the machines lays in an area where job site personnel is obliged to pass underneath; — difficulties for power supply.

Prevention and safety measures: — calculate in advance the total weight of the platform as explained along this manual. The stability

of the ground must be certified by an authorized technician; — verify that the ground underneath is free of hollows and underground tunnels in order to prevent

the machine to collapse during its use; — the area underneath the work platform must be adequately fenced and the passage of people

forbidden. In case the passage of people can not be avoided, protect this area in order toprevent materials to fall in this area;

 — check the exactitude of the power supply. The power cable must be connected to a lawfulpower panel.

9.1 SAFETY REQUIREMENTS BEFORE HANDLING THE MACHINEOnce the machine is mounted and the electrical connection is set, it is good practice to carry out a

number of verifications to ascertain its functionality.Before handling the machine verify that: — the area underneath the platform has be fenced off with barriers so as to block access; — adequate signs, which are easily visible and/or bright, have been set in place; — there are no power lines in the machine's path or in its immediate vicinity, which can constitute

a risk for the operators safety;

 — there is no material nor protruding components in the machine's path, which can hit the workersor hinder the machine's regular movement;

 — all the machine's mechanical, electromechanical and electrical safety devices work perfectlywell;

 — the rack, pinions and sliding wheels are in perfect working condition; — the belts used in any emergency are readily available on the machine;

 — when the platform is driven upward or downward, the personnel onboard are positioned insuch a way so as to spread the load in a uniform manner;

 — the EMERGENCY pushbutton, which triggers the interruption of the entire control circuit,immediately stopping the machine's movements, works perfectly well;

 — the wind speed is less than 18 m/sec, otherwise the cabin must be brought down; — in case of a power failure, the cabin can be brought down to the ground level by acting upon the

lever of the manual release of the motor brakes, very cautiously. The operation must be carriedout by ELECTROELSA Technical Support personnel or by specialised personnel, speciallytrained in maintenance and repairs;

 — there is no snow or ice on the machine, otherwise it is obligatory to see that this is removed. — the drive direction of the machine is in accordance with the right direction and not contrarily. — after having tested an up and down run and of the machine, all limit switches and levelling

devices are working.

After having carried out the verifications described above, the machine is ready for its normaloperation in a construction site.

9.2 SAFETY REQUIREMENTS DURING MACHINE OPERATION

In order to work safely, always remember the following requirements during machine operation: — it is strictly forbidden to construct work levels which are higher than the loading platform; — when the loading platform is elevated, the machine can only be abandoned in the case of an

emergency and making use of the appropriate fall protection devices; — the loading platform is to be brought down to ground level, as soon as possible, in every instance

and any kind of failure;

DANGER

When failure occurs during machine operation, take the necessary steps to

resolve this before utilising the machine again.

 — at the end of each working day, the machine must be brought down to its lowest position andthe power supply must be disconnected, storing the power cable separately, in a safe place.

9.3 SAFETY VERIFICATION INSTRUCTIONS

The Technicians, who are responsible for the machine's start up and maintenance, are to refer tothe instructions given below in order to verify the functionality of the installed safety devices and toensure that all parts of the machine work perfectly well. These instructions are also found inabbreviated form on the labels onboard the machine.

9.3.1 General verification of the machineIn order to ensure that the machine's mechanical components are working perfectly well, proceedas described below: — in case of a storm, tornado, hurricane or earthquake, all essential parts of the machine must be

checked by a professional or an authorised inspector, before putting the machine back intooperation;

 — if the machine is installed outdoors, it must not be used if the wind speed exceeds 18 m/sec

(40 mph for Canada and the United States); — if the machine is exposed to frost, the cabin must be brought down to the ground floor level,

once the work is carried out. If the mast and/or the power cable are covered in ice, remove this

before operating the machine; — ensure that no equipment or material is suspended from the machine's structure.

9.3.2 Electrical verification of the machineIn order to test and ascertain that the electrical command and control devices work perfectly well,

proceed as described below: — check that all the EMERGENCY and the main switch, function properly. For this purpose, carry

out trial runs with the EMERGENCY pressed and the switch set to the "OFF" position. In allinstances the machine must not move.;

 — verify synchronisation by carrying out trial runs with the loading platform doors open. In allinstances the machine must not move.

NOTE

Carry out the verification tests with one switch at a time in order to clearly identify

any malfunctions.

 — perform trial runs in order to verify the functionality of the end-of-travel devices; — also check that the pads and the end-of-travel devices are fastened well.

9.3.3 Verification of the machine's motion

In order to test the cabin's motion, proceed as described below: — visually check the machine's cable guide and ensure that it is free from any obstacle. Monitor

this constantly; — while the cabin is on the ground level, turn the main switch on; — ensure that the load does not exceed the maximum allowed - refer to the information given on

the label indicating the load capacity; — close the loading platform doors properly; — drive the machine by using the joy-stick in the desired direction (UP/DOWN). Release the joy-

stick to stop the machine.

9.3.4 Daily verification prior to operating the machineEvery day, before starting to operate the machine, proceed as described below:

 — ensure that no equipment or material is suspended from the machine's structure that can interferewith the machine's path;

 — ensure that the mast and the power cable are not covered in ice; if so, remove this before

operating the machine; — in case of particularly intense weather conditions, all the essential parts of the machine must be

checked, as described earlier on;

 — if the wind exceeds the threshold indicated, prohibit all persons concerned from using themachine;

 — verify the functionality of the electrical interlocking systems on the access doors of the loadingunit, the base enclosure and those to the floor level landings;

 — verify the functionality of the mechanical interlocking systems on the access doors of the loadingunit, the base enclosure and those of the floor level landings;

 — verify the functionality of the upward and downward end-of-travel devices.

After having carried out the verifications described, the machine is ready for its normal operation ina construction site.

DANGER

An approximate assessment of the operation conditions is the greatest and

most common cause of accidents, often with a fatal outcome.

9.4 MANUAL DESCENT PROCEDUREWhen the machine is in use, if a failure occurs in the machine while it is over ground, the manual

descent procedure must be implemented until the personnel onboard can get out onto a floor levelor the machine reaches a safe height.

To implement this operation, proceed as described below: — the main switch of the electric panel has to be set to the "0" position; — act upon the relevant lever (1) found in the lifting units area. The lever must always be kept

locked in its idle position and the key to the lock must always be carefully kept by the safetymanager of the machinery or of the construction site;

 — act upon the lever with extreme caution and very lightly for a short while, for the lifting units tostart descending without gaining speed;

DANGER

Implement the brake release manoeuvre for very short distances, at a maximumspeed equal to 1/3 of the normal working speed. Moreover, when thismanoeuvre is carried out, it is necessary to stop for at least 1 minute every 20seconds of descent so that the brakes can cool down. It is very important to

implement this procedure because if the brakes overheat, this could put theentire braking system at risk with very serious consequences.

 — As soon as the loading platform reaches a floor level where the personnel onboard can get off,the machine must be stopped and abandoned. Bringing the loading platform back to groundfloor level or carrying out the necessary repairs over ground is a task which is to be carried outby the personnel from ELECTROELSA Technical Support or qualified personnel appropriatelytrained in maintenance and repairs.

11.3 SAFETY PROCEDURES FOR THE INTERVENTION OF EXTRA-RUN SWITCHESIn case the lower extra-run switch engages, to reset the machine in operation , use the reset key to

move the junction box of the drive unit electrical cables that has the device pressed in.Turning the key in position 1, the lower extra-run switch is bridged. Now, move the machine upwardsto disengage the extra-run switch. At this point return the key in position 0 again.

11.4 PROCEDURES FOR THE INDIVIDUATION OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMSAll forms of electric failure need specific procedures and equipment for the search and repair.

General principles for the electric breakdown search are described below: — the search must be carried out with the help of a phase detector screwdriver or a voltmeter. The

voltmeter must be of universal type and it is a toll recommended for an efficient and reliableresearch;

 — only authorized electricians can carry out works on electrical system.

DANGER

Works on electric system must be carried out only by trained and authorizedpersonnel.

DANGER

To execute works in the control panel it is necessary to wait about one minute

after having disconnected the power supply to allow the power dissipating inthe power cable.

To search for electrical failures, it is advisable to follow the instructions below: — use the electrical scheme. This scheme is kept inside the main control panel on the platform.

The scheme shows how the electrical plant is wired and realized. — check that the circuit is not interrupted. That means that you have to verify that magneto-termo

switch and phase sequence meter did not get engaged, that overrun limit switches are notengaged and that the red emergency button is not pressed. Check that the main switch is in

position ON;

 — check that upper and lower limit switch function correctly; — connect the voltmeter or the phase detector between the joint O and the terminal as indicated

in the electric scheme. Check that the power supply is correct. Pass through every joint,methodically one after the other, as to localize the failure;

 — begin checking that the power is supplied to all three incoming phases in the control panel. — check that the power cable connected to the control panel supply power when the main switch

is in position ON; — check that power supply reaches the machine correctly;

 — check the control panel to verify that the incoming three phase power supply is correct; — check that the impulse “Up and Down” coming from the command lever reaches the control

panel correctly; — move the machine to test that the coil on the contactor (UP- DOWN) receives power. Check

that the brake contactor is engaged and that the brake coil is correctly supplied with power inorder to determine brake release;

 — if the failure is not found in the command and power circuit, carry out the research as describedabove in the signal and illumination circuit. Check everything methodically until the failure isfound.

Expertise shows that certain failure causes have specific symptoms that can indicate the positionof the breakdown. In any case, here below you can find some examples of troubles with their possible

12.4 ELECTRICAL MOTOR MAINTENANCEFor a correct maintenance of the electric motors, find here below some possible faults and relative

causes and solutions:

DEFECT: — Motor too hot (this can only be established after measurement).

POSSIBLE CAUSE:

 — Motor not connected in conformity with mains voltage. — Mains voltage has a variation superior to 5% of nominal motor voltage. A higher voltage is

particularly unfavorable for high polarity motors as when they are already at normal voltagetheir absorption reaches minimal values.

 — Low volume of cooling air, air passage is blocked. — Cooling air is preheated.

 — Overloading at normal mains voltage, absorption too high and speed too low. — Bad contact of mains cables (temporary operation with one phase).

SOLUTIONS: — Adjust connection. — Make sure mains voltage is correct.

 — Ensure good air circulation. — Make sure air is fresh. — Do not overload the machine.

 — Make sure contacts are good.

DEFECT: — The motor does not start or has problem in starting.

POSSIBLE CAUSE: — Fuse blown. — Contactor has interrupted mains. — Motor relay does not work. Defect in command. — Delta starting connected to star.

 — When starting the voltage or the frequency noticeably diminish with respect to their nominalvalue.

 — Bad contact of the star-delta commutator.

SOLUTIONS: — Replace blown fuse.

 — Check and adjust relay. — Check relay command and eliminate error. — Correct connection. — Improve the state of mains supply.

 — Repair the contact.

12.6 RECTIFIER MAINTENANCETests are carried out with a mobile coil instrument. Direct current between terminal (+) and (-) and

alternating current between terminals marked with the appropriate symbol (~) is measured.The value of direct current must be between 35% and 45% of the value of alternating mains current.The test is carried out with an ohmmeter or with a direct current measuring instrument. — The diodes of the rctifier are chyecked to verify the continuity between the terminals marked on

the diode. — The diodes must not let the current pass between (~) and (+) and between (~) and (-), but then,

inverting the measuring instrument prods let it pass in the opposite direction. A residualresistance, detected in the direction of the passage of the current, is caused by the thresholdvoltage of the diodes.

 — The resistance between terminals (+) and (-) must be 180-200 KOHM for the barke rectifier in

one direction, in the opposite direction (inverting instrument prods) must be 0 (infinite). Theremust be no connection to check the quality of the diode.

ATTENTION

All test and maintenance on brake rectifiers must be carried out by trained andauthorized personnel or by ELECTROELSA Technical Department

12.7 EXTRAORDINARY MAINTENANCEIn order to avoid abnormal phenomena of wear and tear, together with a faulty gear movement

(vibrations, noise and so on), it is important to lubricate the rack with grease (racommended greasesare those used for roller bearings, even though greares used for agricultural machinery are suitableas well).

It is important that the pinion enegages the rack in the right way. The maximum play admittedbetween the bottom of the rack tooth and the head of the pinion tooth is shown in the picture 12.1

here below. In case the engaging is different to what indicated in the picture, it is necessary toadjust eccentric pins of the drive rollers.

Absolutely avoid engaging conditions similar to the one shown in the picture 12.2, because besides

being very dangerous from the safety point of view, they provoke a fast and abnormal wear andtear of the components in question.

Moreover, it is very important that the axe passing through the centre of the pinions is parallel to theaxe passing through the rack teeth as shown in the picture 12.3 position 1.

Absolutely avoid the situation as shown in the picture 12.3 position 2. In case you notice that thedrive unit is working in that condition, it is necessary to adjust immediately eccentric pins of theguide rollers.

Concerning the maximum wear admitted on drive pinions, with reference to the picture 12.4, you

can consider the following values:

- Maximum wear admitted on the pinion 0,4 mm- Minimum pinion measure admitted 28,2 mm

Concerning the maximum wear admitted on the rack, with reference to the picture 12.5, you can

consider the following values:

- Maximum wear admitted on the rack 0,8 mm- Minimum rack measure admitted 24,8 mm

If the wear on rack and the pinion is beyond the above mentioned values, it is necessary to substitute

them, to avoid damage on the machine.
