Raised Fireplace Placement

Elevated Height Options As the Riviera 42 contemporary design leads itself to installations higher in the wall as would other traditional appliances. All installations clearance still applies. Non-combustible panels and distances to combustible materials must be adhered to. The Clearance to the ceiling must not be less than the 44” inches dictated by the internal ceiling height. Mantel sizes and clearance when applicable follow guideline described in this manual.

Mantel Requirements

No Combustible materials are permitted lower than 7 ¾” above the opening of the appliance represented by the hatch area. A projection ( mantel or trim) of combustible material can be no deeper than 12” from the 7 ¾” height. Caution: any finish like stains or clear coatings must be of a high heat design to prevent discolouration.

Installing Gas and Electrical Supply Lines. Both Gas and Electrical lines must be installed and accessible for the installation of the Riviera 42.Natural Gas requires a minimum inlet gas pressure of 5.0 in W.C.. Liquid Propane Fuel requires a minimum of 11.0 in. W.C. IMPORTANT: Installer please allow a portion of the gas line connecting to the appliance to be flexible enough for moving and aligning the appliance into the chase. It’s very advisable to connect and secure gas lines before attaching the Cleanface Front. After securing the Cleanface to the appliance access to the gas compartment becomes limited. A grounded 117volt AC line must be supplied to the appliance and wired into the electrical box which is fixed to the right hand side of the appliance. This will supply power to the AC Adapter which powers the Electronic Valve System. and also provides power for an optional electrical blower if installed.

Framing and Clearance Unit maybe installed in any location that maintains proper clearances to air conditioning ducts, electrical wiring and plumbing. Safety, as well as efficiency of operation must be considered in selecting a fireplace location. Select a location that does not interfere with room traffic, has adequate ventilation, and offers an accessible pathway for venting installation.

Venting

Venting Parameters. The Riviera 42 can be installed using either Canadian Firehearth Rigid 5 x 8 co-axial venting or 2-ply Aluminum Chimney liner that is supplied by Canadian Firehearth. A description of the details and limitation for venting are listed in ths manual. Installer please note; there are variations with venting configurations specific to either Natural gas or Propane Fuels. The implementation of an intake restrictor is required in some installation types.

The Riviera 42 requires the mandatory use of (p/n) 14 ½ x 14 ½ Wall Thimble in all installations where vent pipe passes horizontally through any combustible construction.

Installation Considerations Before installing any venting, proper assessment of venting system must be determined. Unacceptable vent runs can affect the appliances combustion creating undesirable performance.

WARNING: This gas appliance must not be connected to a chimney flue serving a separate solid-fuel burning appliance.

Final Checks Installer: Befo ing the appliance with the customer, you must check the operation of the appliance. *Check correct rating by clocking the appliance at 15 minutes. (See label) *Check flame description as seen on page 14. Adjust primary air if required. *Take time to go through the unit with the customer. Note: When first fired, the unit will produce an odour. This is normal and is part of the paint curing process. It is recommended that you open a few windows to ventilate the room. This will be noticeable for at least 4 hours. During the first hour, smoke detectors in the house may be set off. *Following the initial burn-in period, the glass panel may require cleaning. Caution: Do not clean the glass when the appliance is hot! *When the appl nce is fired from cold, the glass may fog up. This is due to condensation and is normal. *Make yourself familiar with these instructions before operating the appliance. *Check any loose electrical wires that may cause a shock. *Check all around the appliance for gas leaks. If you smell gas, follow the instructions on the front cover of this manual. *Check to see that logs are correctly positioned. The pilot light should be visibl *Check to make sure that venting is secure. *Check all external parts, such as grills, doors and control covers to make sure they are attached and fastened properly. Caution: Do not turn the unit off and on again without a minimum of a 60 second wait. *The appliance area must be kept clear & free from combustible materials, gasol e, and other flammable vapors or liquids. Log set & burner require no maintenance.

Important – Glass Cleaning – Mineral Deposits One of the by-products of the combustion process in a gas appliance is a m eral which can show up as a white film on the ceramic glass of the viewing door. The composition of the deposit varies w y from various locations and also from the time in the same ocation. You may have the problem for a time and then not see it again for months when it will reappear in your area. It seems this is associated with the varying sulfur content of the gas. Ceram glass manufacturers cannot give us a definitive answer to this problem. Dealers may provide various cleaning products with varying results. The following recommendations will not guarant results in your particular case. Note: This is a problem beyond CFHMfg’s control and is not covered under warranty.

1. Clean the glass regularly as soon as you notice the buildup, (white film). If the film is left for a longer period of time, build up will bake on. Once baked, it is much harder, if not impossible, to remove.

2. Never use an abrasive cleaner on the glass. Any abrasion of the surface has the immediate effect of lessening the strength of the glass. An emulsion type cleaner is recommended.

3. Use a soft damp cloth to apply the cleaner. Dry the glass with a soft dry and preferably cotton cloth. Most paper towels and synthetic materials are abrasive to ceramic glass and should be avoided.

4. Our dealers have had good results from the products listed below. We cannot however guarantee the results of these products.

Cold Weather Operation

When using any gas appliance (LP or NG Fuels) water is a byproduct of the combustion process. Under normal conditions, this is expelled through the vent into the atmosphere and does not cause any harm. In extremes of cold weather however, the vapors may condense and freeze on any exposed surface it comes into contact with. This can cause a problem by restricting or blocking the vent, particularly with direct vent wall terminations as the exhaust is only a few inches away from the outside wall surface. What happens to the moisture after it leaves the vent cannot be controlled by the manufacturer. To extend the vent further out from the wall can sometimes be an advantage. Extending the vent out from the wall can present other design problems such as ice falling from the eaves above. It is the home owner’s responsibility to ensure that there is not an excessive build-up of ice on the termination. Caution: When operating your appliance during cold weather, you must frequently check the exhaust cap for excessive ice build-up.

Operating Your Fire The operating instructions are also on a chained plate inside the control access door. For your safety, this appliance is fitted with a flame supervision device which will shut off the gas supply if for any reason, the pilot flame goes out. This device incorporates a
