Servo Catalogue Dynaserv direct drive servo
Direct Drive Brushless ServoSystemsEach Dynaserv system consists of a brushless servo motor, microprocessor based drive, power supply and a brushlessresolver or encoder for position feedback. The primarybenefit of the Dynaserv System is high accuracy and torquewithout speed reducers. Additional advantages include:
■ Faster settling time than a traditional servo motor andspeed reducer system
■ Smooth rotation at slow speeds
■ A flat speed/torque curve for high controllability
■ Ability to operate in a position, speed or torquecontrol mode
■ Built-in test mode simplifies optimum tuning
■ Can be prepared to operate in class 10 clean roomapplications
DR Series■ Brushless resolver feedback
■ 13 models; 150, 200 or 250mm diameter
■ Resolutions to 819,200 steps/rev
■ Torques to 400Nm
■ Repeatability of ±5 arc seconds
■ Speeds to 2 rps
DR5000 Series■ Brushless resolver feedback
■ 4 models, 150 or 250mm diameter
■ Resolutions to 425,984 steps/rev
■ Torques to 500 Nm
■ Repeatability of ±5 arc seconds
■ Speeds to 4 rps
DM Series■ Incremental encoder feedback
■ 7 models; 150 or 250mm diameter
■ Resolutions to 1,024,000 steps/rev
■ Torques to 200 Nm
■ Repeatability of ±2 arc seconds
■ Speeds to 2 rps
Multiple control modesThe Dynaserv System allows the user to operate in one ofthree modes of control:
Position control – up to 1,024,000 steps/revSpeed control – ±10V velocity command inputTorque control – stable response at ±8V input
This type of flexibility combined with a high torque/weightratio, high accuracy, faster settling times, high torque at highspeed, smooth rotation, optimum tuning and clean operationall add up to a cost effective high-performance alternative totraditional motor and speed reducer combinations.
Model TypesWhen selecting the model type, the decision comes downto a trade-off between resolution, accuracy, speed andcost. This table can be used to match specific applicationrequirements to the correct direct drive motor. Bear inmind that these ratings are relative, i.e. the lowest accuracyDynaserv is still very accurate by normal motor standards.

Inertia MatchingWhen selecting the right Dynaserv for your application, theinertia match between the motor and load is the criticalfactor. The specifications listed in this section are for a 30:1load to rotor inertia ratio. The following table lists themaximum recommended ratios for specific applicationtypes.
Max inertia ratioApplication Type (Jload /Jmotor )
High throughput applications 5-10(printing machines, chip mounting)
General high speed applications 20-30(SCARA robot, transfer arms)
High speed but balanced load 50-100applications(Rotary Index, Rotary Tables)
High accuracy, slow speed 100-200applications (measuring equipment)

Feed-to-LengthThe Dynaserv system eliminates the need for gear reductionand allows for direct control of the nip roll in most feed-to-length applications. The ability to effectively control loads upto 100 times its own rotor inertia allows the Dynaserv to beapplied in a variety of machines. The net result of specifyinga Dynaserv system is increased repeatability of the feedmaterial.
Dynaserv applications
Indexing/Rotary PositioningThe Dynaserv has high accelerations lending itself to highspeed point-to-point positioning applications requiring lowcycle time. In scanning and inspection applications theoutstanding low speed performance will be of merit.

Material HandlingBy attaching a small arm or linkage to the Dynaserv, veryhigh velocities an be attained. This type of design has beenused on a wide variety of equipment, such as a chipmounting machine. On this machine accuracies of 30 arc-sec are maintained with very high arm speed.
RoboticsDynaserv direct drive motors were first developed to driveSCARA (Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm) inapplications requiring repetitive and physically taxingoperations.

■ Dynamic Braking
Capacitor type or Speed-switching type for eachmotor size.
■ Precision Machining
Axial and radial run-out of .01, .02 or .005 mm isavailable on most Dynaserv models. Standard axialand radial run-out for all motors is 0.1 mm.

DR Direct Drive BrushlessServo SystemThe Dynaserv DR Series provides the user with a highperformance direct drive servo system with resolverfeedback. Each model includes a direct drive motor, integralresolver, microprocessor based drive and a 3 metre motor-to-drive cable.
The DR Series motor is brushless and without gearsallowing for long, maintenance-free operation. The crossroller bearing design can support up to 4 tonnes ofcompression load and 400 Nm of overhung load. Thecentre hole in the motor is up to 150mm in diameter andcan be used to simplify system wiring.
The user can elect to operate the DR Series in either aposition, velocity or torque mode. In the position mode, thedrive accepts step and direction input from a CompumotorIndexer or user supplied pulse source. Operating in thevelocity or torque mode requires a ±10 volt input.
High performance closed loop operation is obtained with asophisticated I-PD digital and analogue control algorithm. The analogue velocity loop provides high bandwidth forexcellent system response. The digital position loopsimplifies position control and optimizes system accuracy.A built-in test mode and position/velocity monitors allow forconvenient and efficient tuning.
The DR Drive is fully protected against open and shortcircuits, overcurrent, overvoltage and overtemperature. Aseven segment LED indicator provide the user with thestatus and diagnostic information from the front panel.

DR5000 Direct Drive BrushlessServo SystemThe Dynaserv DR5000 Series is a high power direct drivesystem that is based on the design of the DR Series. TheDR5000 Series is capable of approximately 2-3 times thespeed of the DR series while delivering comparable torque. Each DR5000 System comes complete with motor, integralresolver, and a microprocessor based drive.
The DR5000 Series can be operated in position, velocity ortorque mode. In position mode the DR5000 accepts Stepand Direction Input, making it compatible with CompumotorIndexers. For operation with a servo controller the driveaccepts a ±10V signal representing velocity or torque. Apseudo-encoder output is available from the drive, eliminating the need for additional feedback devices.
The DR5000 series motor is brushless and gearless, allowing for a long, maintenance free life. The cross rollerbearing design can support up to 4 tonnes of compressionload and 400Nm of overhung load. The hole in motor centreis up to 150mm in diameter, simplifying system cabling.
The DR5000 incorporates an I-PD algorithm that delivershigh performance closed loop control. The velocity loop isanalogue for a very high bandwidth. The digital position loopsimplifies position control and maximizes system accuracy.A built-in test mode is available for convenient and efficienttuning.
The DR5000 drive is fully protected against open and shortcircuits, overcurrent, overvoltage, and overtemperature. Asingle character front panel display puts status anddiagnostic information at your fingertips.
