DCA Applications—VAV Units

• Generally non-spring return

- All VAV boxes require an actuator to control air flow.

- Some VAV boxes have a re-heat coil—the valve is controlled with an actuator.

- VAV boxes have specific requirements for actuator life (number of repositions)

DCA Applications—Unit Ventilator

• Used in schools, hospitals, hotels, etc—anywhere segregated flow and control are required

• Unit ventilators require a smaller actuator due to space constraints

• Options exist for 2 actuators per ventilator—RA/OA damper and face & bypass damper.

• Face & bypass damper generally non spring return; RA/OA damper can be either.

Note: Honeywell's Spring return Fire and Smoke actuators are designed for to pass the UL-555 and UL-555S 350ºF requirements. They are not designed for HVAC applications. UL-555 and UL-555S requires that all new construction fire and smoke damper jobs have the actuator assembled and tested at the damper manufacture. A like for like retrofit replacement or technically equal UL-555 and UL-555S approved device is recommended.
