He started his career withBritish Telecoms, gaining a wholewealth of experience intelecommunications. Tony’sprevious roles have included bothlecturing and managing a coursedevelopment team specialising intelecommunications training.
Alan Mayne brings to the TelecomsAcademy some twenty-one years ofexperience in Telecoms and IT –gained working for some of theleading telecoms companiesincluding BT and Ericsson. He hasworked in telecoms training since1998. Previously Alan has worked asa Senior Engineer for Ericsson withresponsibility for supporting GSMNetwork roll-out for one of theleading UK mobile phone operators.
Dave McNally has gained a wealthof experience within the TelecomsIndustry – being a lead presenter inboth the Faculty of Technology andEngineering and Faculty of TelecomsBusiness. His career includesworking as a Senior Engineer forCable and Wireless. Dave hasworked in TelecommunicationsTraining since 1996.
The Diploma in LTE & Advanced Communications is 6 months long and comprises four core modules andeight specialist modules (of which you choose tostudy two).
Each module is made up of written material, coursework(questions, worked examples and research), regularassessments (in the form of multiple choice questions),and tutor support. Written material provided will benominally between 160-200 A4 pages, and (withexercises, worked examples, and self tests), require 20 hours work per module/month.
Pre-RequisitesThree years’ relevant experience within thetelecommunications industry or a relevant degree in a telecommunications related topic.
Assessment and ExaminationsAward of the Diploma will be on successful completionof a multiple choice final examination. The finalexamination will be set for one month after nominalcompletion of the final module. This examination willbe conducted through a web interface and will requirevalidation from your invigilator (training manager orresponsible person). Full details can be supplied onrequest. You will also be asked to complete selfassessment questions throughout the course in order to monitor your progress.
Course DatesThis Diploma course starts on 25 November 2009 withthe first module. We will then mail modules at regularintervals allowing you to set your own pace.
Course MaterialsMaterial will be made available in hard copy atappropriate intervals. You will be expected to completeone module per month, over a total period of sixmonths. Course material will also be made available viaour Managed Learning System.
Course TutorsThe Course Tutors are available during your studies tohelp with any problems or technical questions that youmay have. Each programme will also be assigned aCourse Director. Studying Time of the Modules• The amount of time spent studying will depend on your knowledge, experience and
whether English is your first language. As a guide you should aim to spend 20 hoursof private study completing each module.
