The Institute of Cost Accountants of India is a statutorybodysetupunderanActofParliamentintheyear1959.The Institute as a part of its obligation, regulates the

profession of Cost and Management Accountancy, enrolsstudents for its courses, provides coaching facilities to thestudents,organisesprofessionaldevelopmentprogrammesforthemembersandundertakesresearchprogrammesinthe�ieldofCostandManagementAccountancy.TheInstitutepursuesthevisionofcostcompetitiveness,costmanagement,ef�icientuseofresourcesandstructuredapproachtocostaccountingasthekeydrivers of the profession. In today's world, the profession ofconventionalaccountingandauditinghastakenabackseatandcostandmanagementaccountantsareincreasinglycontributingtoward the management of scarce resources and applyingstrategic decisions. This has opened up further scope andtremendous opportunities for cost accountants in India andabroad.AfteranamendmentpassedbyParliamentofIndia,theInstituteisnowrenamedas''TheInstituteofCostAccountantsofIndia''from''TheInstituteofCostandWorksAccountantsofIndia''.Thisstepisaimedtowardssynergisingwiththeglobalmanagementaccountingbodies,sharingthebestpracticeswhichwillbeusefultoalargenumberoftrans-nationalIndiancompaniesoperatingfromIndiaandabroadtoremaincompetitive.Withthecurrentemphasis on management of resources, the specializedknowledge of evaluating operating ef�iciency and strategic

management the professionals are known as ''Cost andndManagement Accountants (CMAs)''. The Institute is the 2

largestCost&ManagementAccountingbodyintheworldandthelargest in Asia, having approximately 5,00,000 students and85,000 members all over the globe. The Institutionheadquartered at Kolkata operates through four regionalcouncils at Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai and 108Chapterssituatedatimportantcitiesinthecountryaswellas10OverseasCentres. It isundertheadministrativecontrolof theMinistryofCorporateAffairs,GovernmentofIndia.

TheBoardofAdvancedStudies&Researchhasbeenconstitutedby the Institute in order to provide advanced knowledge andspecialized training on various areas of Cost & ManagementAccountancy,including�inanceandotheralliedsubjects.TheBoardshalldesign,developanddeliveradvancedcoursesthat are of interest to Management Accountants and otherprofessionals. It will also take up research in the area ofManagementAccountingandallied�ieldofstudy.Advanced courses are designed for up-gradation of existingknowledge and skills and for acquiring new knowledge andskills. The courses aim to prepare practicing members andprofessionalstotakeupnewareasofpracticeandconsultancyandformembers/professionalsinindustrytoshoulderhigherresponsibilities.
