Mr.Savagewentthroughdiagnosesforbackpainandmanytreatmentsuntilhisthenfiancée,Omega,aregisterednurseinsistedonanMRIthatledtothediscoveryofhisMultipleMyelomaCancer. Atonepointhesayshewasparalyzedfromthespinaldetermination.However,oncetheMultiple

Myelomawas confirmed he received proper treatment, including a stem cell transplant.Mr.Savagelaterbecamecancerfreeandmarriedthewomanwhohesays,“savedmylife.”

Dr.JasonPorter,TheWestCancerCenter,MemphisDr. Jason Porter is a native of Memphis, Tennessee and currently a MedicalHematologist and Oncologist at the West Cancer Center and Research Institute. Hecompleted his undergraduate degree at Christian Brothers University and medicaltrainingattheUniversityofTennesseeHealthScienceCenter.Hisclinicalandresearchinterestsincludeearlydetectionandscreeningforallcancers,localandadvancedlungcancers and benign hematology. He has published research on the hypertension,advancedlungcancertherapyandsideeffectsaswellasacuteLeukemia.Adedicatedadvocate for cancer patients, he derives a great sense of fulfillment from helpingpatientsandtheirfamiliesnavigatethetherapiesandcomplicationsoftheseillnesses.


Margaret Williams is the wife of an Air Force veteran who retired and moved toMississippi. It was when they first moved to Southaven when she discovered she hadMultiple Myeloma. Well, it’s not quite that simple. According to Margaret, fromdiagnosis in 2012 to stem cell transplant and remission 2014 and 2017, it was quite apainful and humbling educational journey. God, her granddaughter, her angel andhusbandservedasherunfailingsupportsystemthroughitall.TodayMargaretwillsharesomeofherstory.

Her research is on “Chemo Brain” which is studying thecognitive changes experienced from receiving chemotherapy. She is fiercelycommittedtoeducatingpatientsandprovidingthemwithhelpfulresources.

Ms.DorisDavis-King,MultipleMyelomaPatientDoris Davis-King, a 59-year-oldmother of six children, 16 grandchildren, and 3 greatgrandchildren.Shereceivedherassociates’degreefromDiabloValleyCollege.Shewasdiagnosed with Sarcoidosis in 1989. Over the years, she experienced constant pain,nausea, vomiting, and low blood count. In 2017she was diagnosed with MultipleMyeloma. She completed4monthsof chemo in February2018; and receivedabonemarrowtransplantonMay25,2018.

Dr.RobinKelley,50HoopsSeniorTechnologyConsultantDr.KelleyistheChairoftheHealthEducationMinistryoftheMountAiryBaptistChurch.Inthiscapacity,shehasreceivedmulti-yeargrantsforcommunityhealthandwellnessactivities.Shehasworkedcloselywithbothcommunityandchurchministriesonyouthandwomen’sissues,suchasdomesticassaultandhealthandnutrition.Sheisemployedfull-timeatanonprofithealthorganizationandhasreceivedacooperativeagreementfrom theCenters forDiseaseControl andPreventionDivision. MaryDeRome,Director,MultipleMyelomaResearchFoundationMary DeRome joined the MMRF as Translational Research Manager in February 2014,where shewas responsible formanaging theMMRF research grant programs andhelpedmanage theMMRF CoMMpass trial and other precisionmedicine initiatives. TheReverendDr.JacquelineA.Thompson,SeniorPastor,AllenTempleBaptistChurchReverendDr.JacquelineA.Thompson,graduatedwithaB.A.DegreefromtheUniversityofCalifornia, Berkeley, majoring in Political Economy of Industrial Societies, earned herMaster of Divinity from Howard University; and her Doctorate of Ministry in AfricanChurchLeadership fromFullerTheologicalSeminary,Pasadena.Shewasthe firstwomaninstalledasAssistantPastorofAllenTempleBaptistChurchin2010andsubsequentlythefirst woman senior pastor of the historic church on April 7, 2019.
