Dear Parishioners:

This weekend we celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick at all Masses at St. Joseph The Worker. Everyone is welcome to participate. In this Year of Mercy, remember that God is abundant in mercy to all who re-ceive Him.

In the Parable of the Rich Man, Jesus offers us: Woe to the complacent; take responsibility of spiritual life; and a warning from the dead. Jesus calls us to full commitment! Are we actually helping the eternal life of ourselves and others? Are we listening to those who have gone before us in faith? The time to respond to God is now!

GRACE 2.0 Always sitting before our leaders is the ominous overhanging shingle: “Woe to the complacent!” What does complacent faith life look like? Perhaps like a savings account – it’s there for an emergency, or perhaps like our favorite chair – it comforts us. Transforming faith needs to be much more. For the committed believer, it drives our decisions; it leads our day; it informs our thinking; it challenges our littleness; it pushes us toward

the unexpected, it opens up new vistas, and it immerses us in unexpected grace. Who is the Lazarus at our door? What situation cries out for my help? How can I take a step toward greater faith, trusting in God’s abundance to carry me be-yond my uncertainty and fear? If each of us truly invests in something beyond ourselves (and self-interest), how might our lives change? How might our parish change? Two challenges right now: How have I invested in the Parish Festival – am I helping? Can I come, and contribute my gifts to Grace 2.0 during October? Lets go for it!

After learning the connection between these three saints, participants will be invited to paint pumpkins and create other Halloween decoration which will then be delivered to the homes of some of our elderly parishioners. Our Prayer Shawl Minis-try at St. Joseph the

Worker meets the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 2:30 pm in the Par-ish Office meeting room. We can teach! All are welcome! If you know someone who could use a prayer shawl, please call or stop by the parish office. Our prayer shawls are made with love and prayers to com-fort those going through difficult times.

We are looking for volunteers to help clean up our flower beds and too replace mulch. Monday September 19th and 26th after 5:00pm we will be working on this. Please come and get your hands dirty and make a difference. If you would like to become a member of the Garden Committee please notify Kerry in the parish office.

Hills & Dales Development Center’s religious education program begins this month. We are in need of volunteers to be the companions for students with special needs on their faith journey. We meet two Tuesday evenings a month during the school year. We provide training. You will not need to care for any of the student’s health or per-sonal needs. Professional staff is on duty during all the classes. We hope you can join us in bringing the Good News to God's special people. MIDDLE SCHOOL • Middle School Nights (MSN) are the second Friday of

every month. It is from 6:30-8:00pm in the Youth Center. Our next MSN is Friday, October 14th. We are doing a service project for members of our parish community. Families are an important component to this night, so bring your siblings and parents!

• The 8th Grade Retreat is October 15-16th at Albrecht Acres. The cost is $50 and you can register at http://www.stanthony-dubuque.org/8. It is open to all 8th grade students., so invite your friends! Contact Marcy with questions.

HIGH SCHOOL The next Confirmation session is on Sunday, October 16th. Please join us for a simple lunch with your families at noon in Martin Hall. Then we will head over to Four Mounds Ropes Course for community building activities. Parents are responsible for providing transportation to Four Mounds.

SERVICE Looking for service opportunities? There are plenty of op-portunities to help with Octoberfest on Sunday, October 2. We are also having a family service night Wednesday, October 12.
