But many early settlements in the heart of America suffered similar fates when progress passed them by. In fact, ghost towns can be found throughout our country, and many are located right here in the Midwest. Path to Well-Being This October, Watermark Retirement Communities is proud to participate in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women. About 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point. The good news is that many women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early. Talk to a doctor about your risk for breast cancer, especially if a close family member of yours has had breast or ovarian cancer. Your doctor can help you decide when and how often to get mammograms. Last month a group of Town Center residents paid a visit to the newest operational plant for Michigan's largest brewing company (in nearby Comstock), to learn a little about the history of the company and the process by which beer brewing occurs. While touring the plant we were fascinated to discover the methods by which beer is flavored and brewed, and enjoyed some delicious samples as well! We undoubtedly gained a heightened appreciation for the brewing industry. The only area we were unable to see on this particular Sunday was the bottling plant, a few doors down on the same campus. Perhaps a follow-up visit is in order!
