Dimension Garber High School - Home of the Dukes December 2 0 1 3 ’ S With the snowfall and seasonal cheer comes Garber’s annual holiday Show-Off. A mixture of extraordinary musical talents, dancers and entertainers makes their way to the stage to flaunt what they have been practicing for months on end. Entitled “A Classic Cartoon Christmas,” the wide variety of acts showcases some of Garber’s most creative individuals and brought out many a smile in the crowd. This year’s audience was incredibly enthusiastic and joined in the acts whenever they got the chance, either singing “Hallelujah” with the Alumni Band or clapping to the beat of various other musical numbers. Garber’s choirs, hand bell players, Garber Guys and Ladies Glee Club shared the stage with quite a few new faces this year. The 2013 Varsity Football Team helped the Cheer team to create an exquisite presentation by lifting and tossing many of the girls towards the sky. Beginning with a few cartwheels, the boys did a fantastic job and the Cheer team, as always, was spectacular. Next we had members of the Girls Cross Country Team, who demonstrated proof that not only are they superb runners, they can also hold their own on the dance floor. Dancing to a remix of the famous Lion King opener “Circle of Life,” the team made powerful use of the first lyrics in the song by having coach Mark Knapp lift freshman Jenna Jeczmionka over his head to recreate the movie’s most famous scene. The school board made quite the splash on stage with their performance of “Cups” from the movie Pitch Perfect and their hilarious but impressive costumes. Foreign Language Day dancers also got their chance to hit the stage with a rendition of their award-winning “Señorita” dance. These hard-working individuals brought an excellent bit of Latin spice to this year’s show. John VanDenBoom, Coordinator and Director of the Holiday Show-Off, graced the audience with his presence by acting alongside Lauren Ouellette, Spencer Smigiel, Aubrie Smith and others in a Charlie Brown Christmas number. Playing piano and conducting the scene, VanDenBoom was able to give an incredible performance. Rounding off the acts were brilliant flute and sax solos by Amanda Brantley and Carter Spearstad to Beyonce’s “Halo” as well as Lydia Greania playing her baritone to the tune of “Demons” by Imagine Dragons. Garber’s dance team performed a lyrical routine to the holiday classic, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” All in all, this year’s performances brought holiday cheer to all and left the crowd with smiles all around. With the advent of a few new faces, we hope that this year’s show was the start of some new traditions on the stage. Showing Off: Garber’s Talent Hits The Stage By Brady Kenniston
