DILLON D-TERMINATORINSTRUCTIONS

Congratulations on your selection ofthe Dillon D-Terminator high precisionelectronic scale. The D-Terminator is ahighly sensitive ElectronicComputerized Load Cell Scale. Withmany features only found in veryexpensive laboratory and jeweler’sscales, the D-Terminator is balancedand designed for multi-purpose usage. The maximum capacity is 57 Grams or900 Grains and the resolution is 0.01GRAMS or 0.1 GRAINS. Featuresinclude: an anti-static draft shield,Calibration function, an overload cellprotector, automatic shut-off, an audi-ble beep when any function key ispressed, and AC or battery operation forportability and field use. No other scaleon the market today provides as muchvalue or as many quality features as theD-Terminator.

A. Battery Installation:1. Turn the scale onto its side.

Remove the battery compartmentcover on the back of the scale. To doso, press the tabs to the front and tip itoff. FIG 1.

2. Install the four AA batteries intothe compartment and replace the cover.FIG 2.

CAUTION: WHEN INSERTING THEBATTERIES, DO NOT APPLY PRESSURETO THE FOUR LOAD CELL PLATE FEETON THE TOP SIDE OF THE SCALE. THEYARE NOT DESIGNED FOR WEIGHTEXCEEDING 57 GRAMS. FIG 3.

B. AC Adapter/BatteryEliminator:

1. Your scale can also be operated on120 volt AC by using the furnished ACadapter. The adapter provides six voltsDC and plugs into the jack at the rearof the scale. FIG 4.

2. Insert the adapter plug into thesocket on the rear of the scale and then

plug the adapter into an outlet. DONOT SUBSTITUTE AC ADAPTERS.Only use the AC adapter provided withthe scale. NOTE: Use of an AC adapterother than the one provided may dam-age the scale.

C. About the Scale:1. Select a FLAT and LEVEL surface

which is not subject to vibration or airmovement.

2. A transparent, protective plasticcoating has been added over the LCDdisplay to prevent scratches duringshipment. This should be removedbefore operation to provide a clearview of the display. FIG 5.

3. Turn the scale on by pressing thebutton marked “ON/OFF” once FIG 6.

The scale is now on. The display willshow “+88.8.8.8.” and then “0.00” witha small arrow pointing to “g:gram” onthe extreme right side of the display. This indicates that the scale is ready touse. The “CAL/MODE” key will allowyou to toggle between GRAMS andGRAINS after turning the scale on,even if there is something beingweighed at the time.

4. When this scale is used in anylocation where air movement may be afactor, the “draft shield” should be usedto cover the weighing platform. FIG 7.

This prevents inaccurate readings dueto environmental influences.

This specially designed cover incor-porates a grounding feature whichremoves any static electricity within the

covered area. This prevents inaccuratereadings due to static electricity buildup. (A feature normally found only onvery expensive laboratory scales).

5. This scale features an automaticshut-off after approximately three min-utes of inactivity (battery power only) atwhich time it will shut itself off. Thisconserves battery power and protectsthe scale from being left on for pro-longed periods of time when not in use.

6. FIG 8. This scale was calibratedbefore shipment from the factory, butmust be recalibrated before use and itmust be recalibrated after every reposi-tioning of the scale. Calibration can beaffected by the following factors:

a. Handling during shipment.

b. Changes in work location.

c. Drastic changes in temperature.

D. Calibration procedure:1. Make sure the 50 gram calibration

weight is available before proceeding.FIG 9.

2. If the display is not showing“0.00” gram press the “ZERO” keyonce before proceeding. FIG 10. Thepowder pan should not be on the plat-form. Wait for the display to show“0.00” gram.

3. Press and hold the “CAL/MODE”key for four seconds until the displayreads “50.00” and begins blinking onand off FIG 11. Press the “ON/OFF”key once and the display will show

“CAL 0” which indicates that zeropoint is set FIG 12.

4. GENTLY place the 50 gram cali-bration weight on the platform and waituntil “CAL F” is displayed. FIG 13. Thescale is now calibrated and ready touse. NOTE: IF “CAL E” APPEARSINSTEAD OF “CAL F” GO TO STEP 5.

Remove the weight and wait for“0.00” to appear. FIG 14. If “0.00” doesnot appear, press the ZERO key toreturn the scale to zero. If you wish tocheck the calibration, replace the 50gram weight on the platform and thedisplay should read “50.00” grams.

5. If the display shows “CAL E” itmeans an error has occurred during the

calibration process. Repeat the processuntil “0.00” appears.

E. Operation of the Scale(weighing powder):

1. Place the empty pan on the scale.FIG 15.

2. Put the draft shield in place. FIG16.

3. Turn the scale on by pressing the“ON/OFF” button.

4. Press the “ZERO” button (this will“zero out” the scale). FIG 17.

Wait until the display reads “0.00”grams.

Press the “ZERO” key at any time tore-zero the scale. This is a good idea ifthe scale is moved during a weighingprocess.

At this point the scale can be used toweigh any object that will fit on theplatform (within the weight range of thescale).

5. FIG 18. Pour the powder into thepan. Allow 4 to 5 seconds for the dis-play to settle (because of the scalesextreme sensitivity, the display mayfluctuate slightly, if so, check for vibra-tion or air movement). Read the weight

on the scale.

6. Turn the scale off when you arefinished.

CAUTION:1. Place objects onto the weighing

platform VERY GENTLY.

2. Do Not weigh any object whichwill exceed the capacity of the scale. This could permanently damage theload cell sensors. (The scale's capacityof 900 grains is equal to about 2.0ounces). The powder pan weighs about190 grains and this must be considered.

3. Turn off the scale when not in useby pressing the “ON/OFF” key. Thiswill prevent unnecessary battery drain. Also unplug both ends of the ACadapter when the scale is not in use.

4. Always keep the calibrationweight clean. The effects of accumulat-ed body oils and dirt can cause the cal-ibration operation to be off by 1/10th ofa gram or more.

5. Always keep the unit away fromheat and direct sunlight.

6. The scale should be kept cleanand away from moisture. Only cleanwith a clean dry cloth.
