Spending at least eight hours a day and five times a week in work is a big part of one’s life in the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Central Office. Good thing in the DILG Central Office, work-life balance is possible. Facilities in the DILG-NAPOLCOM Center help employees allot time for family, health, and spiritual development, among others. We, the DILG Central Office, commit to formulate sound policies and provide effective technical and administrative services to promote excellence in local governance, strengthen local government capacities, and enhance the service delivery of our Regional and Field Offices. VOL.4 - NO.21 - May 2016 DILG-CO Quality Policy A publication of the Public Affairs and Communication Service on DILG LG Sector News DILG personnel thankful for ‘work-life balance’ facilies Parenthood is made easy for Ellen Paulyn Perez, Administrative Assistant II in the National Barangay Operations Office, who brings her daughters aged three and seven almost every day to the DILG DAY CARE CENTER at the 10th floor. “It’s assuring to have my children in the Day Care knowing they are safe and I can see them during lunchtime and immediately after work. I also do not need to be absent from work just to tend to them at home whenever our nanny takes a break,” said Perez. The Day Care was reopened in October last year and is accepting donations such as educational materials and toys. For physical fitness, Celso M. Batalla, Administrative Assistant II in the Bureau of Local Government Supervision, sweats out the stress away four times a week in the gym at the 11th floor. “Regular exercise is my holistic conditioning. It gives me physical health and mental clarity. I do not easily get fatigued so it helps in increasing my job productivity,” said Batalla cheerfully. He sits as the National President of the DILG Employees Union which initiated the opening of a gym in February last year. The GYM is open 6 am to 8 am and 4:30 pm to 6 pm. Presently, it has three manual bikes, two treadmills, and basic gym equipment. An aerobic fitness exercise called ZUMBA featuring amusing movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance is also being done every Tuesday and Thursday at 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the 27th floor. “I regularly attend the zumba sessions because it is fun and it helped me lose weight and maintain my fitness plus it’s free,” said Morceda A. Ali, a staff in the office of Assistant Secretary for Plans and Programs. Meanwhile, spiritual health makes Jasmin E. Querijero, Administrative Aide IV in the Personnel Division-Administrative Service (AS), frequent the CHAPEL at the 9th floor. “It’s very relaxing to pray and participate in the mass during lunch time in the chapel. I am relieved whenever I pour out my thoughts and feelings to God that’s why I go there almost every day,” she said. The same reasons motivate Sarrah A. Mosa, Administrative Officer I in the Records Section of the General Services Division- AS, to not miss her obligatory prayers that she does in the MUSLIM PRAYER ROOM just next to the chapel. “Praying five times a day is one of the pillars and fundamentals of being a Muslim. That includes the prayers done at noon (zuhr) and in the afternoon (asr). I’m very grateful that the DILG has allotted space for a Muslim prayer room,” said Mosa with a beaming smile. An Islamic sermon referred to as khutbah is regularly done at the zuhr congregation prayer every Friday in the DILG Muslim prayer room. While there is a feeding of the soul, there is certainly also a feeding of the tummy. Jennie L. Magdaraog, a staff in the Legal and Legislative Liaison Service, said she is elated when a CANTEEN opened at the 7th floor. “It’s very convenient to have home-cooked food and snacks within reach. Before, I have to make sure to prepare my baon otherwise I’d have to buy unhealthy fast food meals,” she jested.
