Digitally Supplied ART:

Raster/bitmap files must be saved as color mode CMYK or Grayscale.

Supported raSter/bitMap file forMatS:epS (compression/quality = JPEG Maximum)JpeG (compression/quality = Maximum)pSd, or tiff (layered files are acceptable)

Vector files must be saved as color mode CMYK.

Supported veCtor file forMatS:epS or ai - If using Adobe Illustrator CS2 or CS3 save files with Illustrator CS compatibility.

iMportaNt:Effective resolution is 600 dpi minimum for raster/bitmap images containing text. 300 dpi is acceptable if no text is present.

• do not save images as rGb.• do not save images with embedded color profiles.

When submitting line-art it is required that all text be outlined.

Filenames should be limited to 30 characters in length using only alpha and numeric characters, dashes, periods and underscores.

Important - Images:images that do not follow Valpak® submission guidelines will be handled as follows:Valpak® will not issue franchise calls for artwork that does not follow Valpak® submission guidelines. Valpak® will attempt to convert any RGB or spot colors to CMYK or Grayscale whenever possible but cannot guarantee quality or color accuracy. Valpak® may attempt to improve poor quality artwork for printing purposes. In this process an image may be altered slightly from its original state to improve the final printed image. It is the responsibility of the franchise to submit artwork following Valpak® submission guidelines. Artwork not submitted following Valpak® submission guidelines will not be eligible for credit.

Road maps that have been downloaded from a web browser, such as MapQuest®, Google Maps®, and Yahoo! Maps® are not acceptable due to copyright infringements. Valpak® recommends that maps be created using a vector drawing application such as Adobe Illustrator®. Maps should follow the same criteria as vector clipart. If a map is supplied in a raster format, then it must contain a minimum effective resolution of 600 dpi. Valpak® recommends that you create simple maps with few roads and intersections.

Valpak® will attempt to rebuild any map that does not follow the above submission guidelines—and your franchise will be assessed a nominal Map Charge.

Digitally Supplied ADS:Completed ads must be submitted as a press optimized adobe pdf file with fonts embedded. Filenames should be limited to 30 characters in length using only alpha and numeric characters, dashes, periods and underscores.

Valpak® requires you create your PDF using the standard setting: pdf/X-1a:2001Valpak® recommends you create your PDF through acrobat distiller.Creating your PDF using any other applications may cause your ad to print incorrectly.

Important Submission Policies

iMportaNt - ColorS:

Valpak® will attempt to convert any RGB or spot colors to CMYK or Grayscale whenever possible but cannot guarantee quality or color accuracy. These conversions will be done automatically. Do not embed color profiles into any files submitted as it may cause your file not to print properly or at all. It is the responsibility of the franchise to submit artwork following Valpak® submission guidelines. Artwork not submitted following Valpak® submission guidelines will not be eligible for credit.

iMportaNt - foNtS:

When selecting fonts, it is recommended that only Type 1/PostScript/open type face fonts are used. Use of any other font type (i.e. Multiple Master, True Type, Composite, etc.) may cause your ad to print incorrectly or not at all. It is the responsibility of the franchise to submit artwork following Valpak® submission guidelines. Artwork not submitted following Valpak® submission guidelines will not be eligible for credit.

iMportaNt - diGital ad uploadS:

If a new digital file is submitted for a referenced ad, or at proof stage and no changes are requested, Valpak will use both sides of the new uploaded file will be used. Replacing your referenced ad, or proof ad.

When a new digital file is submitted for a referenced ad, or at proof stage, with a change request, Valpak will only use the new digital file that changes are requested for. (i.e. if a change is requested for sd1 only, and the new file submitted contains a PDF/Graphics for both sides, only the new side one file will be used.

If your intention is for both sides of a new digital file is to be used when requesting changes to only one side of an ad, an instruction must be included to use both sides of the new file upload.

Products & Color Usage

premium Color® (Cp40, Cp44)

These ads must be built using CMYK process colors only and can be 4/0 (cmyk/0), or 4/4 (cmyk/cmyk). Images should be saved as grayscale or CMYK. Line-art should be created using CMYK process colors.

premium Color® (Cp20)

Use the premium Color® (Cp20) examples found in the Premium Color® (CP20) Guide on how to use the dual color combinations and the color breakdown specifications for each of the CP20 colors. Images should be saved as grayscale. If your images or line art must be printed in the premium Color® (Cp20) highlight color, then make sure to build a CMYK document according to the proper color breakdown listed in the premium Color® (Cp20) examples.

ImPortant: Do not Use Spot Colors or Spot Color Channels!ImPortant: Valpak® Graphics will not color separate a grayscale or color halftone used within a

Premium Color® (CP20) product.

Keep in mind, because computer screens display colors differently than printed colors, the colors you see in the Two Color examples may not match the printed version exactly.

Preparing Art for Submission

Be sure to include all art/image files Valpak® will need to use when building your ad. The Valpak® franchise you are working with should submit your upload file name along with a Layout Order form indicating that there is digitally supplied art and/or ad.

When submitting line-art it is required that all text be outlined. Text that is not outlined will be replaced with a similar font licensed by Valpak® in order to avoid font licensing issues.

It is the responsibility of the franchise to submit artwork following Valpak® submission guidelines. Artwork not submitted following Valpak® submission guidelines will not be eligible for credit.

Data Management For Ads

All digitally delivered Valpak ads are stored on our graphics database for one year. This allows you to reference your previously submitted ads for future mailings as a repeat with expiration date change only. Any other changes requested may result in a new file request.

2) From the “Valpak® File Upload” screen click the browse button. This will allow you to select the file that you wish to upload.

After selecting your file, its name will display in the “File To Upload” box. Please make sure the name is unique and contains only alphanumeric characters (A-Z and 0-9). Dashes (-), periods (.), and underscores (_) can be used as well. If any other non-alphanumeric characters are used (i.e. *, /, ?, etc.) your file will not transfer. The filename used must be provided to the Valpak® franchise you are working with so they can communicate it to us.

Click the upload the file button to transfer your file.
