Power connectionR Use only the power source marked on the

product.R Do not overload power outlets and

extension cords. This can result in the riskof fire or electric shock.

R Completely insert the AC adaptor/powerplug into the power outlet. Failure to do somay cause electric shock and/or excessiveheat resulting in a fire.

R Regularly remove any dust, etc. from theAC adaptor/power plug by pulling it fromthe power outlet, then wiping with a drycloth. Accumulated dust may cause aninsulation defect from moisture, etc.resulting in a fire.

During a power failureThe unit will not work during a power failure.We recommend connecting a corded-typetelephone (without AC adaptor) to the sametelephone line or to the same telephone linejack using a T-adaptor. R When there is another cordless phone inuse nearby, the base unit transmissionpower may not be reduced.

R When eco mode is set to “Eco Plus”,there is a delay between when calls arereceived and when the handset startsringing.

R When eco mode is active, the range of thebase unit is reduced in standby mode.

R If you set repeater mode to “On”(page 35):– Eco mode is disabled.– “Eco Mode” is not displayed in the

display menu (page 27).R When eco mode is set to “Eco Plus”,

battery usage time is shortened (page 11).

Baby monitorThis feature allows you to listen in on a roomwhere another handset is located, allowingyou to easily monitor from different areas ofthe house or place. The monitored handset(placed in a baby’s room, for example) willautomatically call the monitoring handset orthe phone number stored when it detectssound.Important:R You should perform a test run of the baby

monitor procedure to ensure that the babymonitor feature is set correctly. Forexample, test its sensitivity. Check theconnection if you are diverting the babymonitor to an outside line.

R This feature should not be used as asubstitute for a medical or caregiver’ssupervision. It is the caregiver’sresponsibility to stay close enough tohandle any eventuality.

Note:R If the unit is connected to a PBX system,

you cannot set the baby monitor.R During the monitoring mode, battery

consumption is faster than usual. Werecommend leaving the monitored handseton the base unit or charger.

R The monitored handset never rings duringthe monitoring mode. But if the monitoredhandset is on the base unit, the base unitringer sounds. Turn off the base unit ringervolume to not sound the ringer (page 26).

TroubleshootingIf you still have difficulties after following the instructions in this section, disconnect the base unit’sAC adaptor and turn off the handset, then reconnect the base unit’s AC adaptor and turn on thehandset.

R “LCD in charging” is set to “Off” while on charge.Change the setting (page 27).

R The handset is not turned on. Turn the power on (page 14).I cannot hear a dial tone. R Make sure that you are using the supplied telephone line cord.

Your old telephone line cord may have a different wiringconfiguration.

R The base unit’s AC adaptor or telephone line cord is notconnected. Check the connections.

R Disconnect the base unit from the telephone line and connectthe line to a known working telephone. If the workingtelephone operates properly, contact our service personnel tohave the unit repaired. If the working telephone does notoperate properly, contact your service provider/telephonecompany.

I cannot use the SmartFunction Key even if the

indicator is flashingslowly.

R Another unit is in use. Wait and try again later.R The key lock feature is turned on. Turn it off (page 19).

The base unit beeps. R New messages have been recorded. Listen to the newmessages (page 39).

Battery recharge

Problem Cause/solutionThe handset beeps and/or

flashes.R Battery charge is low. Fully charge the batteries (page 11).

I fully charged thebatteries, but– still flashes or– the operating time

seems to be shorter.

R Clean the battery ends ( , ) and the charge contacts witha dry cloth and charge again.

R It is time to replace the batteries (page 10).

Making/answering calls, intercom

Problem Cause/solution is displayed. R The handset is too far from the base unit. Move closer.

R The base unit’s AC adaptor is not properly connected.Reconnect AC adaptor to the base unit.

R The handset is not registered to the base unit. Register it(page 35).

R Activating eco mode reduces the range of the base unit instandby mode. If required, turn eco mode off (page 15).

Noise is heard, sound cutsin and out.

R You are using the handset or base unit in an area with highelectrical interference. Re-position the base unit and use thehandset away from sources of interference.

R Move closer to the base unit.R If you use a DSL/ADSL service, we recommend connecting a

DSL/ADSL filter between the base unit and the telephone linejack. Contact your DSL/ADSL provider for details.

Sound quality seems to begetting worse.

R You have registered a handset that is not recommended(page 4). The clearest sound quality is only possible byregistering the recommended handset.

R If you use a DSL/ADSL service, we recommend connecting aDSL/ADSL filter between the base unit and the telephone linejack. Contact your DSL/ADSL provider for details.

R Other telephone equipment may be interfering with this unit.Disconnect the other equipment and try again.

Caller information is slowto display.

R Depending on your service provider/telephone company, theunit may display the caller’s information at the 2nd ring or later.Set the first ring to “Off” (page 26).

R Move closer to the base unit.Time on the unit hasshifted.

R Incorrect time information from incoming Caller ID changes thetime. Set the time adjustment to “Manual” (off) (page 26).

Answering system

Problem Cause/solutionThe unit does not recordnew messages.

R The answering system is turned off. Turn it on (page 38).R The message memory is full. Erase unwanted messages

(page 39).R The recording time is set to “Greeting Only”. Change the

setting (page 44).R Your service provider/telephone company’s voice mail service

may be answering your calls before the unit’s answeringsystem can answer your calls. Change the unit’s number ofrings setting (page 43) to a lower value, or contact your serviceprovider/telephone company.

I cannot operate theanswering systemremotely.

R The remote access code is not set. Set the remote accesscode (page 42).

R You are entering the wrong remote access code. If you haveforgotten your remote access code, enter the remote accesscode setting to check your current code (page 42).

R The answering system is turned off. Turn it on (page 43).

R If the first ring is turned off, the number of rings decreases by 1from the specified number of rings.

Liquid damage

Problem Cause/solutionLiquid or other form ofmoisture has entered thehandset/base unit.

R Disconnect the AC adaptor and telephone line cord from thebase unit. Remove the batteries from the handset and leave todry for at least 3 days. After the handset/base unit arecompletely dry, reconnect the AC adaptor and telephone linecord. Insert the batteries and charge fully before use. If the unitdoes not work properly, contact an authorised service centre.

Caution:R To avoid permanent damage, do not use a microwave oven to speed up the drying process.
