For your safetyTo prevent severe injury and loss of life/property, read this section carefully beforeusing the product to ensure proper and safeoperation of your product.

WARNING

Power connectionR Use only the power source marked on the

product.R Do not overload power outlets and

extension cords. This can result in the riskof fire or electric shock.

R Completely insert the AC adaptor/powerplug into the power outlet. Failure to do somay cause electric shock and/or excessiveheat resulting in a fire.

R Regularly remove any dust, etc. from theAC adaptor/power plug by pulling it fromthe power outlet, then wiping with a drycloth. Accumulated dust may cause aninsulation defect from moisture, etc.resulting in a fire.

R Unplug the product from power outlets if itemits smoke, an abnormal smell, or makesan unusual noise. These conditions cancause fire or electric shock. Confirm thatsmoke has stopped emitting and contact usat www.panasonic.com/contactinfo

Operating safeguardsR Unplug the product from power outlets

before cleaning. Do not use liquid oraerosol cleaners.

R Do not disassemble the product.R Do not spill liquids (detergents, cleansers,

etc.) onto the telephone line cord plug, orallow it to become wet at all. This maycause a fire. If the telephone line cord plugbecomes wet, immediately pull it from thetelephone wall jack, and do not use.

MedicalR Consult the manufacturer of any personal

medical devices, such as pacemakers orhearing aids, to determine if they areadequately shielded from external RF(radio frequency) energy. (The productoperates in the frequency range of1.92 GHz to 1.93 GHz, and the RFtransmission power is 115 mW (max.).)

have failed.– there is a power failure.

BatteryR We recommend using the batteries noted

on page 4. USE ONLY rechargeableNi-MH batteries AAA (R03) size.

R Do not mix old and new batteries.R Do not open or mutilate the batteries.

Released electrolyte from the batteries iscorrosive and may cause burns or injury tothe eyes or skin. The electrolyte is toxic andmay be harmful if swallowed.

R Exercise care when handling the batteries.Do not allow conductive materials such asrings, bracelets, or keys to touch thebatteries, otherwise a short circuit maycause the batteries and/or the conductivematerial to overheat and cause burns.

R Charge the batteries provided with oridentified for use with this product only, inaccordance with the instructions andlimitations specified in this manual.

R Only use a compatible base unit (orcharger) to charge the batteries. Do nottamper with the base unit (or charger).Failure to follow these instructions maycause the batteries to swell or explode.

R If the reception for a base unit location isnot satisfactory, move the base unit toanother location for better reception.

EnvironmentR Keep the product away from electrical noise

generating devices, such as fluorescentlamps and motors.

Setting up

Connectionsn Base unit

Connect the AC adaptor to the unit bypressing the plug firmly.Fasten the cord by hooking it.Connect the AC adaptor to the poweroutlet.Connect the telephone line cord to theunit, then to the single-line telephone jack(RJ11C) until you hear a click.A DSL/ADSL filter (not supplied) isrequired if you have a DSL/ADSL service.

Note for connectionsR The AC adaptor must remain connected at

all times. (It is normal for the adaptor to feelwarm during use.)

Making calls

number.R To correct a digit, press MCLEARN.

Power backup operationWhen a power failure occurs, the chargedhandset temporarily supplies power to thebase unit (power backup mode). Baby monitorThis feature allows you to listen in on a roomwhere another handset is located, allowingyou to easily monitor from different areas ofthe house or place. The monitored handset(placed in a baby’s room, for example) willautomatically call the monitoring handset,base unit, or the phone number stored when itdetects sound.Important:R You should perform a test run of the baby

monitor procedure to ensure that the babymonitor feature is set correctly. Forexample, test its sensitivity. Check theconnection if you are diverting the babymonitor to an outside line.

R This feature should not be used as asubstitute for a medical or caregiver’ssupervision. It is the caregiver’sresponsibility to stay close enough tohandle any eventuality.

Note:R If the unit is connected to a PBX system,

you cannot set the baby monitor.R During the monitoring mode, battery

consumption is faster than usual. Werecommend leaving the monitored handseton the base unit or charger.

Once you call back an edited number, the unitwhich was used to call back remembers thearea code and format of the edited number.The next time someone calls from the samearea code, caller information is customized bythe unit as follows:– When the call is being received, the Caller

ID number is displayed in the same formatas the edited number.

– After the call has ended, the caller’s phonenumber is displayed in the same format asthe edited number, when reviewed from thecaller list.

For example, you can use this feature to setthe unit to ignore the area code of callers inyour area, so that you can call these localnumbers using caller information withoutdialing the area code.To activate this feature, you must edit an entryin the caller list, then call that number. Answering systemThe answering system can answer and recordcalls for you when you are unavailable toanswer the phone.You can also set the unit to play a greetingmessage but not to record caller messages byselecting “Greeting only” as the recordingtime setting (page 49).Important:R Make sure the unit’s date and time setting

To listen to the message, dial thevoicemail number provided by your phone serviceprovider (for most cases, this will be your own phonenumber), and follow the voice instructions. Depending onyour phone service provider, you may need to remove allmessages from your voice mailbox to remove thenotification. You can also remove this notification bypressing and holding # until the unit beeps.

Liquid damage

Warranty (For United States and Puerto Rico)

Limited Warranty CoverageIf your product does not work properly because of a defect in materials or workmanship,

Panasonic Corporation of North America (referred to as “the warrantor”) will, for the length

of the period indicated on the chart below, which starts with the date of original purchase

(“Limited Warranty period”), at its option either (a) repair your product with new or

refurbished parts, or (b) replace it with a new or a refurbished equivalent value product, or

(c) refund your purchase price. The decision to repair, replace or refund will be made by

the warrantor.

LaborParts

One (1) Year One (1) Year

During the “Labor” Limited Warranty period there will be no charge for labor. During the

“Parts” Limited Warranty period, there will be no charge for parts. You must mail-in your

product prepaid during the Limited Warranty period. This Limited Warranty excludes both

parts and labor for batteries, antennas, and cosmetic parts (cabinet). This Limited

Warranty only applies to products purchased and serviced in the United States or Puerto

Rico. This Limited Warranty is extended only to the original purchaser and only covers

products purchased as new.

To submit a new repair request and for quick repair status visit our web site at

When shipping the unit carefully pack in a padded shipping carton, include all

accessories, and send it prepaid. Include a letter detailing the complaint, a return

address and provide a day time phone number where you can be reached. P.O. Boxes

are not acceptable. Keep the tracking number for your records. A copy of valid

registered receipt is required under the 1 year parts and labor Limited Warranty.

For Limited Warranty service for headsets if a headset is included with this product please follow instructions above.

IF REPAIR IS NEEDED DURING THE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD THE

PURCHASER WILL BE REQUIRED TO FURNISH A SALES

RECEIPT/PROOF OF PURCHASE INDICATING DATE OF PURCHASE,

AMOUNT PAID AND PLACE OF PURCHASE. CUSTOMER WILL BE

Limited Warranty Limits And ExclusionsThis Limited Warranty ONLY COVERS failures due to defects in materials or workmanship,

and DOES NOT COVER normal wear and tear or cosmetic damage. The Limited Warranty
