Difference between ELCB and RCCB ELCB is the old name and often refers to voltage operated devices that are no longer available and it is advised you replace them if you find one. RCCB or RCD is the new name that specifies current operated (hence the new name to distinguish from voltage operated). The new RCCB is best because it will detect any earth fault. The voltage type only detects earth faults that flow back through the main earth wire so this is why they stopped being used. The easy way to tell an old voltage operated trip is to look for the main earth wire connected through it. RCCB will only have the line and neutral connections. ELCB is working based on Earth leakage current. But RCCB is not having sensing or connectivity of Earth, because fundamentally Phase current is equal to the neutral current in single phase. That’s why RCCB can trip when the both currents are deferent and it withstand up to both the currents are same. Both the neutral and phase currents are different that means current is flowing through the Earth. Finally both are working for same, but the thing is connectivity is difference. RCD does not necessarily require an earth connection itself (it monitors only the live and neutral). In addition it detects current flows to earth even in equipment without an earth of its own. This means that an RCD will continue to give shock protection in equipment that has a faulty earth. It is these properties that have made the RCD more popular than its rivals. For example, earth-leakage circuit breakers (ELCBs) were widely used about ten years ago. These devices measured the voltage on the earth conductor; if this voltage was not zero this indicated a current leakage to earth. The problem is that ELCBs need a sound earth connection, as does the equipment it protects. As a result, the use of ELCBs is no longer recommended. Answe r # 1 elcb means earth leakage circuit breaker which operates when there is a leakage of current from phase to earth. Rccb means residual current circuit breaker which operates when there is a difference in current between any two phases. This differential current is called resdual

Difference between ELCB and RCCB

ELCB is the old name and often refers to voltage operated devices that are no longer available and it is advised you replace them if you find one.RCCB or RCD is the new name that specifies current operated (hence the new name to distinguish from voltage operated). The new RCCB is best because it will detect any earth fault. The voltage type only detects earth faults that flow back through the main earth wire so this is why they stopped being used. The easy way to tell an old voltage operated trip is to look for the main earth wire connected through it.RCCB will only have the line and neutral connections.ELCB is working based on Earth leakage current. But RCCB is not having sensing or connectivity of Earth, because fundamentally Phase current is equal to the neutral current in single phase. Thats why RCCB can trip when the both currents are deferent and it withstand up to both the currents are same. As a result, the use of ELCBs is no longer recommended.Answer#1elcb means earth leakage circuit breaker which operates whenthere is a leakage of current from phase to earth.Rccb means residual current circuit breaker which operateswhen there is a difference in current between any twophases. This differential current is called resdual current.

Answer#2ELCB is a voltage operated device.RCCB is a currentoperated device.IN ELCB, Trip coil is connected betweensystem ground and non current carrying part of themachines.RCCB having CBCT(Core Balanced CurrentTransformer).CBCT consists of 2nos of primary winding(P1,P2) and one secondary winding(S1).Primary windings arein series with the load and secondary winding connected toTrip coil.In case of healty time, voltage in both theprimary windings will be cancelled and hence no voltage onsecondary winding.During the leakge or If any body touchthe live wires of the machines, current will passingthrough the body and connected to ground. It will cause thevoltage difference in primary windings and induced voltagein secondary operates the trip coil(operating time 50ms).

Answer#3ELCB:-An ELCB is a specialised type of latching relay thathas a building's incoming mains power connected through itsswitching contacts so that the ELCB disconnects the powerin an earth leakage (unsafe) condition. The ELCB detectsfault currents passing from live (hot) to the earth(ground) wire within the installation it protects. Ifsufficient voltage appears across the ELCB's sense coil, itwill switch off the power, and remain off until manuallyreset. An ELCB however, does not sense fault currentspassing from live to any other earthed body.

RCCB:-A residual current device (RCD), or residual currentcircuit breaker (RCCB), is an electrical wiring device thatdisconnects a circuit whenever it detects that the electriccurrent is not balanced between the phase ("hot") conductorand the neutral conductor. Such an imbalance is sometimescaused by current leakage through the body of a person whois grounded and accidentally touching the energized part ofthe circuit. A lethal shock can result from theseconditions; RCDs are designed to disconnect quickly enoughto mitigate the harm caused by such shocks.

Answer#4ELCB has a protection for earth leakage where as the RCCBhas the dual protection features of ELCB and MCB

Answer#5ELCB earth leakage circuit breakerRCCB residual current circuit breaker which operateswhen there is a difference in current between any twophases. This differential current is called resdual current.

Answer#61)An RCCB will disconnect if there is sufficient faultcurrent flowing from any part of the protected circuit toany other path. An ELCB will only disconnect if there issufficient fault current flowing from a live part of thecircuit to the protective earth conductor.2) ELCBs are old hat.3)RCCBs are cool for compliancy purposes ELCBs are not.4)RCCBs are pretty good at protecting people against electricshock. ELCBs are pretty crap.5)An RCCB disconnects a circuit when there is a differencebetween the current in the phase side of a circuit and thereturn side of that circuit and when this difference isfiltered and exceeds a threshold trip current value(In thiscontext return for most purposes is the neutral conductorbut for some installations could also conceivably beanother phase connection).ELCBs work by detecting current(or valtage induced by current) in the protective earthconductor.6)It is difficult to see why anyone would choose to use anELCB over an RCCB given that an ELCB will only prevent theprotective earth conductor from reaching a dangerousvoltage under fault conditions. RCCBs will also do this andmore.

Answer#7rccb:-it measures the difference in current between liveand neautral conductors of a system.in normal conditions itis equal. If it is diff. than it indicates that some currentis flowing other than live and neutralElcb;-it measures the voltage on earth conductor. If thisvoltage is not zero that indiacate a leakage to earth

Answer#8ELCB:ELCB IS AN EARTH LEAKAGE CIRCUIT BREAKER WHICH CHEAKTHE LEAKAGE OF CURRENT TO THE EARTH AND TRY TO BREAK THECIRCUIT POWER.RCCB:RCCB IS AN RECIDUAL CURRENT CIRCUIT BREAKER WHICHCHEACK THE ELECTRICAL CURRENT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TWO PHASESIT WILL BREAK THE CICUIT POWER

Answer#9elcb means earth leakage circuit breaker which operates whenthere is a leakage of current from phase to earth.Rccb means residual current circuit breaker which operateswhen there is a difference in current between any twophases. This differential current is called resdual current.

Answer#10There are 2 types of ELCB ; voltage operated and currentoperated. Current operated ELCB is RCCB or sometimes peoplecall RCD. Voltage operated ELCB have earth wire connect toELCB. It is for the ELCB to measure the leakage voltage andwill trip if the leakage voltage reach to dangerous value. While RCCB (Current operated ELCB) monitor the different incurrent between Neutral and Live(or phases). Thedifferential current is called residual current. RCCB willtrip if residual current reach at certain value depends onrated RCCB sensitivity.
