There are four different types of commands in the German language.

Du commands (familiar)• use the 2nd person singular form of the verb

(kaufen)

du kaufst

• drop the subject pronoun and the ending

kauf

• any separable prefix is placed at the end of the phrase

Plural commands (ihr)

• use the second person plural form of the verb

ihr kauft

• drop the subject pronoun

Formal commands (Sie)

• use the formal form (Sie) of the verb

Sie kaufen

• transpose the word order

kaufen Sie

Let’s commands (wir)

• use the first person plural form of the verb

wir kaufen
