DIDSBURY HIGH SCHOOL BANDS SOCIETY MINUTES

November 13, 2013

ATTENDANCE: Dianne Sherman, Marvel McAmmond, Renee McNeil, Imke Wildt, Dianne Barlow, Rose Schroeder, Sharon Tsiras, Brent Runnett, Bruce Milne, Stacey Hickok, Kathy Epp, Lory Svendsen, Grant Svendsen, Kit Ko, Tami Hatcher, Debbie Brazzale, Carla Ridley, Susan Paton, Kirk Wassmer. CALL TO ORDER: 7:02 pm Approval of AGENDA:

• Addition of PR report under new business Brent Runnett/Dianne Barlow moved that the agenda be accepted as amended. Carried. Approval of MINUTES: AGM October 2013 Brent Runnett/Marvel McAmmond moved that the minutes from the AGM October 13, 2013 be accepted as presented. Carried FINANCIAL REPORT: Presented by Carla Ridley

• C. Ridley went over the financial statement for October 2013 • Fall concert donations were $194.05 • Fall Concert 50/50 was $398.00

DIRECTOR’S REPORT: presented by Kirk Wassmer

• On October 30 we had a representative from the Ellison Travel tour group do a presentation on the Spain Band Trip. A deposit of $400.00 is needed by November 25. This deposit will hold the price and give us a confirmation and an idea of who and how many are coming. Parents will use the same form as students and also need to give the $400.00 deposit now.

• November 6 – Fall Concert was a wonderful success. I was very impressed with the grade nines and how well they did along with the concert and jazz bands.

• Jazz Fest “Odds” Performance Wed. Nov. 20th 7:00 Trans Canada Olds • Jazz Fest workshops Thursday, November 21st at the Zion Church Didsbury

• Saturday, November 23 in Red Deer a workshop is offered for students from

10 – 11:30 am. This is for students who play a low brass, value instrument. The students will then play a concert of Christmas music at 1:30. We have seven students interested in attending. It is called a Tuba Christmas concert.

• Jazz Fest workshop – a volunteer is needed to sell tickets at the door that evening as well as someone to sell bottled water. (Someone needs to pick up two flats of bottled water)

• Christmas Concert – December 15 at 2:00 pm. This concert is a big Fundraiser due to the Silent Auction – Each student needs to donate one item for this silent auction.

OLD BUSINESS:

1. Fundraising we are doing: a. Bottle Drive – November 25 – 5:00 pm b. Mums Pantry – forms are out and you can also order online – due

November 25 – back by December 15 (most 40% profit) c. Potted Mums – come at Mothers Day

2. Possible fundraising ideas: a. In dey go – cookie dough, etc b. Pizza Coupons through Macy’s c. Meat Fundraiser – Nossack Fine Meats company (nossack.com) d. Bingo/Casino – will look into where we are on the list

DFS – we will not be using this company this year due to the problems we had last year.

NEW BUSINESS:

1. CD Recording Proposal – Bruce Milne a. Presented a proposal with a company called Nimbus School of

Recording – Outlined in a letter presented by Bruce Milne. b. Bruce will talk to Nimbus and come up with a budget to see if the

society would like to use this company for the CD recording. 2. Christmas Concert

a. We need someone in charge of looking after the Kitchen and the duties involved – Renee Winter volunteered

b. We use Christmas Cactus plants for decorations on the tables and then sell them for $10.00 after the concert. Brent Runnett/Kathy Epp moved that we purchase 50 Christmas Cactus plants from Victoria Flowers at his cost. Carried

3. PR Report a. The PR committee ordered 50 posters to put around town advertising

when the DHS band is playing. We need a motion for pay for the posters as soon as they arrive. Marvel McAmmond/Stacey Hickok moved that the Band Society pay for these posters. carried
