I am currently working as ‘Patient Care Assistant (PCA)’ in Royal Darwin Hospital. In my workplace good communication, collaborative teamwork, caring attitude, reliability are considered as important components of workplace citizenship. As a PCA worker, the hospital expects me to interact with patients, treat them nicely while taking care of their physical health. In addition to this, I am required be at service on time. I should always prioritize my job over trivial personal issues. Likewise, the hospital has a team of several health workers. I am supposed to make a good team together with other health workers. The whole team is to work hand in hand in order to provide best service to the patient. The caring attitude is always valued within a health organization. I must be ready to serve all patients without any discrimination regardless of their health condition, behaviour or anything else. In my writing to reflect essential components of ‘workplace citizenship’ in my workplace I have discussed about good communication, collaborative teamwork, caring attitude, reliability being major ones. To illustrate, ‘Royal Darwin hospital’ is a multicultural workplace and I should be able to listen and answer the patient’s queries, not only related to their heath but also about lifestyle and rules and regulations of hospital. For more serious patients, I need to motivate them for living and restore a hope for well-being. I am also supposed to communicate with other health care professionals regarding patient condition. Similarly, there are many medical professionals related to a patient, Doctors, Nurses, Generalists, and Specialists to say few. I need to work in a team with these people. Hospital is a place servicing countless people. On top of it, there are numerous emergency situations and people depend on health workers for their health recovery. I must be willing to help them whenever need. I need be consistent in fulfilling my duty as a care assistant.
