Playing it Forward in Dawson CreekIn 2017, Dawson Creek allocated $201,000 of its share of provincial gaming revenue to support a variety of initiatives that contribute to the fabric of the community in many ways.

Among the programs that have benefi ted from the funding is the Step Up N Ride Society, which operates non-profi t bus service in the region, where public transportation options are generally less plentiful than they are urban areas. In service since 1981, Step Up N Ride provides door-to-door transportation within the city, in wheelchair-accessible vehicles.

Another group that received support is the South Peace Community Arts Council, an organization that has contributed to the City of Dawson Creek and surrounding area since 1969. The SPCAC in turn provides support for arts projects that reinforce the cultural heritage of the community.

Each year, local governments in B.C. that host a gaming facility receive a 10 percent share of the net revenue those facilities generate. Last year, 32 Host Local Governments across B.C. received $102.1 million to fund local projects and initiatives.

South Peace Community Resources SocietyIn 2017, Chances Dawson Creek was proud to donate $2,000 to the South Peace Community Resources Society. The Society supports the needsof children, youth and families, women who have experienced violence, victims of crime, adults with mental handicaps, children with special needs, couples, and individuals experiencing trauma or difficulties in their lives.

Heart & Stroke FoundationChances Dawson Creek staff joined together to raise $620 in 2018 for the Heart & Stroke Foundation by selling hot dogs and collecting individual sponsorships for the Big Bike Ride in Dawson Creek on June 19. For more than 60 years, Heart & Stroke has been dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke, and in that time, has invested $1.52 billion into life-saving research.
