5 th Class Suggested Activities for 18th- 22 nd May 2020 Hi everyone, Please find below a list of suggested activities for this week. As we are nearing the end of the month we will be focusing on revising and revisiting some areas we covered earlier in the year also. I'm hearing there are great routines going on in your homes so keep up the great efforts and get out into the lovely weather as much as possible. Stay safe and well and have a lovely week :) English: Grammar revision: Adjectives, conjunctions and plurals: Lift Off p71 Exercises 10, 11, 12 and 13. Exercise 10: add adjectives to describe the noun. Remember! Noun = person, place or thing. Add an adjective (a descriptive word) to describe the noun. e.g. The dog ran across the road. [Dog + road = nouns so lets add description to better describe the dog and the road and to extend the sentence.] e.g.The small dog ran across the narrow road. [Small + narrow are adjectives- you may wish to add more than one adjective at a time]. e.g. The small, loud dog ran across the long, narrow road. Exercise 11: Conjunctions – a word used to join two sentences together. These words are usually but, because, as, so, and, or E.g. I like jam. I prefer marmite. I like jam but I prefer marmite. But is the conjunction in this sentence. Reading comprehension: Read the story 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' from Up and Running p260. Discuss what the story is about. Read aloud or engage in shared reading with another family member. This story is set in a very famous concentration camp -Auschwitz. You may have looked this up after last week's story and it is the one I visited last year and spoke to you about in class too so it may sound familiar. Written work to follow up on reading: Choose any of the follow up activities from Up and Running pages 268 + 269. I would suggest answering task A, B, C orally and then writing answers for tasks D, E, F and G if you prefer. Spelling and word patterns: Complete the tasks and revision pages for week 29-30 in Spellwell. Novel: Private Peaceful – Finish the novel by reading the chapters 'Five to Five' and 'One Minute to Six'. Maybe break it up to read 3 pages per day. The last chapter is only 2 pages long. There is additional information at the end of the book if you wish to read for your own interest.

5th Class Suggested Activities for 18th- 22nd May 2020

Hi everyone,

Please find below a list of suggested activities for this week. As we are nearing the

end of the month we will be focusing on revising and revisiting some areas we covered

earlier in the year also. I'm hearing there are great routines going on in your homes

so keep up the great efforts and get out into the lovely weather as much as possible.

Stay safe and well and have a lovely week :)

English:

● Grammar revision: Adjectives, conjunctions and plurals: Lift Off p71

Exercises 10, 11, 12 and 13.

Exercise 10: add adjectives to describe the noun.

Remember! Noun = person, place or thing.

Add an adjective (a descriptive word) to describe the noun.

e.g. The dog ran across the road. [Dog + road = nouns so lets add description to

better describe the dog and the road and to extend the sentence.]

e.g.The small dog ran across the narrow road. [Small + narrow are adjectives-

you may wish to add more than one adjective at a time].

e.g. The small, loud dog ran across the long, narrow road.

Exercise 11: Conjunctions – a word used to join two sentences together. These

words are usually but, because, as, so, and, or  E.g. I like jam. I prefer marmite.

I like jam but I prefer marmite. But is the conjunction in this sentence.

● Reading comprehension: Read the story 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' from

Up and Running p260. Discuss what the story is about. Read aloud or engage in

shared reading with another family member. This story is set in a very famous

concentration camp -Auschwitz. You may have looked this up after last week's

story and it is the one I visited last year and spoke to you about in class too so

it may sound familiar.

● Written work to follow up on reading: Choose any of the follow up activities

from Up and Running pages 268 + 269. I would suggest answering task A, B, C

orally and then writing answers for tasks D, E, F and G if you prefer.

● Spelling and word patterns: Complete the tasks and revision pages for week

29-30 in Spellwell.

● Novel: Private Peaceful – Finish the novel by reading the chapters 'Five to

Five' and 'One Minute to Six'. Maybe break it up to read 3 pages per day. The

last chapter is only 2 pages long. There is additional information at the end of

the book if you wish to read for your own interest.

● After completion of the novel choose any of the tasks below. These can be

completed over the coming weeks so try finish reading the last chapters this

week and then you can begin at some of these. Don’t feel you need to start

these this week.

Write or type a 1 page summary of the

novel including the main characters,

setting and plot. Don't spoil any big

moments that will ruin the story for

other future readers! Give your

feedback- whether you enjoyed it or not,

whom it might be best suited to, stars

out of 5.

Design an alternative book cover for this

novel. Provide the title of the book, the

authors name, an image and maybe

something else that may make potential

readers want to read it. (e.g. On our

cover it says 'The Award Winning WW1

Novel)

The book storyline is due to become a

blockbuster movie. You are chief designer

of merchandise at the film studios.

Design, draw, write or record some of

the products that you will aim to sell in

your merchandise shop. Be creative and

make sure they're relevant to the story/

movie.

(e.g. Propaganda posters, aeroplane

models?)

Attack it through Art!

Build a miniature stage setting of a stage

in the book.

Or

Construct a streetscape or landscape of a

place in the story.

Or

Create a character from the story using

materials, fabric, finger puppet, clay,

mala

Or

Create a cartoon style depiction of a part

of the story.

Or

Paint, draw or colour something related

to the book.
