VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT For the month of November, we are spotlighting all of the volunteers who generously share their time and talents with the Senior Center.

We are fortunate to have so many people willing to fill shifts at the front desk, thrift store and craft boutique. The front desk is rarely without a volunteer on hand to assist callers, visitors, and staff with a variety of needs and requests. They bring patience, humor, knowledge, and their own expertise to the desk and make valuable contributions. The thrift store and craft boutique are completely volunteer-run. They operate five days a week on the commitment and flexibility of these volunteers. We also have volunteer instructors who teach fitness classes, and library volunteers who keep the shelves stocked and organized.

While this space is typically reserved for our shift volunteers, we want to use it this month to also thank the people who aren’t scheduled for regular shifts through the Senior Center but who routinely offer their time to keep programs running smoothly.

We have volunteer musicians who perform almost every day during mealtime; people who pick up and deliver donated bakery goods every week; volunteers in the dining room who help diners and kitchen staff with a variety of needs; ladies who measure and price our fabric donations; participants who act as liaisons between their activity groups and staff; people from area businesses and agencies who support our programs through donations of time, money, and goods, or a combination of the three; and people who simply stop a staff member to ask, “What can I do to help?”

The goal of the Senior Center staff is to provide opportunities for socialization, education, and physical and mental stimulation in a safe, comfortable place where seniors can gather and enjoy the company of others. We are thankful to work with so many volunteers to achieve this goal. Thank you, and Happy Thanksgiving!

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING, ROD!Saying farewell was almost as difficult for Rod as it was for all of us last month, but we’re sure he’ll be back to enjoy some leisure time here. We asked him if there was anything he wanted to share with his Senior Center friends before he left. He said, “It’s been a fun ride helping wonderful people like you enjoy life.”

Rod was a mainstay here for nearly 30 years, and the impact he had on the Dick Eardley Senior Center will not soon be forgotten. We wish him well in his retire-ment and thank him for his many years of good work.

AT THE BAR THE OTHER NIGHT ...An elderly looking gentleman, (mid-90s) very well dressed, hair well groomed, great-looking suit, flower in his lapel, smelling slightly of a good after shave, presenting a well-looked-after image, walks into an upscale cocktail lounge.Seated at the bar is an elderly looking lady. The gentleman walks over, sits along side of her, orders a drink, takes a sip, turns to her and says, “So tell me, do I come here often?”
