Refleksions/diary about the COMENIUS meeting in Réunion made by the Danish delegation – Jutta and Kasper.
We left Hadsten and Aarhus at 10 am, taking the train to Copenhagen Airport where Air France waited to take us via the two airports in Paris to Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean.
The Air France Boing 777-300ER landing on time…

Arrival the Lycée de la Possession. “Velkommen in the upper left corner”
24 hours later we arrived in Réunion after a looong journey without sleep. We were very tired but when we saw the other partners of the COMENIUS project “Green Skills for a Global Change” we were excited and we forgot about our fatigue.
After the warm welcoming at the school we went to the “Coeur de Ville” – where the involved parties presented their plans for a sustainable way of renewing/constructing of a new city center where all members of the community could live together.
Afterwards we went to the “Mandela Social-Cultural Center” where we had a workshop in African dance and traditional way of fighting. Which resembled very much the Brasilian fighting method/dance Capoiera.

The next day, Thursday, we went to the Lycée were all the teachers threw their CLIL lessons in front of the students. Every teacher gave a lesson about various themes. Some gave an introduction the their native country, language and numbers. Others introduced science and others again gave a class in philosophy.
We gave a class in the Danish language and how to count to 20. We also showed a PPT where we told about Danmark, the geography of Denmark and all in all where Denmark is situated. Which none of the Réunion student of course of course knew. As well as the majority of the Danish population don´t know where Réunion is placed geographically.
This was a very interesting event for both the students and us. There are many differences between Réunion and Denmark. But by meeting and talking about these differences it seemed as if the world got a little smaller…
In the cantina after the CLIL lessons talking with some of the teachers of the Lycée about the CLIL lesson. Afterwards the students and teachers cooperated writing a letter to their countries local European representative.
Then all of the countries presented what the students had prepared from home. For the Réunion meeting this was a creative diary made by the students about the last meeting in Slovenia and a couple of videos about their country and school. After lunch we had an introduction the National Park of Réunion.

Friday we visited the National Park East, the volcanos and their surroundings. This day was very exciting and where filled with interesting facts and spectacular scenery and views.

Saturday we went on to see even more spectacular views and beautiful scenery when we went to the Mafate Entry where we could see the Piton de Neige and the collapsed part of the volcano where the slaves fled into the deep valleys.

Again and again we were served delicious creole food. This time we had to eat with our hands… No worries we love it!

Jutta and Kasper would like to “thank you” to everybody involved in the project – of course especial to the Réunion teachers, student, husbands, helpers, farmers, singers, dansers, DJ’s, chefs etc etc.
We had a wonderful week in our beautiful island of Réunion.
