PRINCIPAL’S

Justin Coulson

Bringing up kids in 2018 is as difficult as ever. What are the best ways to support our

Millennials, Gen Zs and i Gens? How do you build and maintain strong relationships with

your children when their world seems to be getting smaller, bigger, stranger and more

complex all at the same time? We are all looking forward to getting some practical, well

researched and easy to understand advice on this from Dr Justin Coulson when he comes

to the College. Justin is a highly sort after and engaging speaker with lots of good advice

based on his studies but also having six girls of his own. There are still places available

for all his sessions, so please come along to listen to him speak. I know you won’t be

disappointed.

Visitors

Can I please remind all parents to come to the office when picking up students or

dropping off things for them, rather than going to their classrooms. This is an OHS

requirement of the College and it helps reduce disruptions to classes that are running.

Swimming Sports

Our house swimming sports will be held on Friday week (Feb 23rd). All parents and friends

are welcome to come along on the day to cheer or help with activities. We will be

providing lunch for everyone as a welcome to the 2018 school year.

Parent Club

Our first Parent Club meeting for the year will be held on Wednesday 7th March at 2:00pm

in the College library. An agenda will be sent out closer to the day and we hope to see as

many parents there as possible.

YEAR P / 1 / 2:

I was Student of the Week for bouncing back

and helping others. We have been helping the

Preps with their work and teaching them how to

Read to Self. I like playing with my friends and

watching things on the whiteboard. On the

weekend I went horse riding.

YEAR P / 1 / 2:

I was Student of the Week because I was a

special helper with the Prep group of kids. I

like that we have our own writing pencil this

year with my name on it. It is exciting

because I skipped some reading boxes and I

am on thirteen. I got a surprise when my

Poppy turned up on Friday morning.

YEAR 3 / 4 A:

I was Student of the Week for helping others and not getting distracted from my work.

Grade 3 is going good. I am really enjoying Reading at the moment. I’m excited for

Swimming Sports next Friday. Go Flinders!

YEAR 3 / 4B:

I was Student of the Week because I came back to school with a positive attitude. I have

really enjoyed going Swimming in PE. I’m looking forward to going to Melbourne to see

my Granny and Grandpa, I can’t wait!

knee boarding on the boat just for a little bit because I

was scared.

YEAR P / 1 / 2:

I got Student of the Week for helping others and doing

my work. I like playing with my friends at school. On

the weekend I went to my Aunty Jessie’s for a

sleepover.

I was Student of the Week for helping the younger students in my new class. I am looking

forward to Swimming Sports and I hope I win the breast stroke race.

YEAR 3 / 4B:

I am Student of the Week for settling well into Grade 3. I’ve really enjoyed my Science

Welcome Back! It seems everyone was well rested and ready to return to school. We

are looking forward to a sensational term. The term is well on its way and we will soon

be welcoming Justin Coulson to the College, Justin will be visiting the college as a part

of our wellbeing program. We hope to see you all at the sessions as we work

collaboratively to grow our College’s wellbeing. Any questions please don’t hesitate to

contact the college. If you have not RSVP’d, please do so. I hope to see you there.

Stranger Danger:

We would like to ask all parents to talk to their children about ‘Stranger Danger’ and

how to stay safe. Staying safe includes not talking to people you don’t know, not

touching dangerous items, not going in a car you are unsure of, crossing roads safely,

wearing a helmet if on a bike or scooter or feeling uncomfortable in a situation. Please

also remind children to tell an adult if they feel unsafe or have something they need to

tell someone. Reinforce who they can talk to at home and school. Being safe with

people children know is also very important. It is never too early to have open

communication with children and share these messages.

Cydnee BRAIN | Wellbeing

We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with

students coming to school each and every day.
