    Jan. THURSDAY 10 186714 above zero

    Very pleasant and cool. A. Follett drawed logs tomill in A.M. (3 load) with Jos. oxen in P.M. He gotthem Shod. I drawed 2 load with the horse & helped

    roll a lot up to the mill. Dea Pond worked in A.M.Jos. had an hour or 2. They went to meeting in P.M.I carried in -?-.

    Very pleasant & cool. Helped about shoeing thehorse and went to M. Clarks to get the saws filed. Ithen went to drawing logs to mill with the horse &load . A. Follett drawed with the oxen in A.M. 2load from the first lot in P.M. I load from thefurther lot. Dea Pond helped & Jos. helped 2 or 3hrs. (Saw). John Rockwood & wife here this eve

    Cloudy morn but chased off . Very pleasant & very Cold.Went to Mr. Nasons with the call in morn than went todrawing logs with the horse. 3 load & A. Willett drawed 4with the oxen. Had sawed up most the day & Dea Pondthis P.M. I sawed some this eve. I went to Milton Cooksto see about his oxen. Found him at Winslows. Emeline& Ella went with me & called at Hermans. I salted my

    beef this eve.

    zeroVery Pleasant & very Cold. In morn went to MiltonCooks & bought his oxen slead for $187. I tookthem up to Hermans & had them shod new allaround (3.oo) this P.M. Went into the woods.Drawed 2 load of logs. Whiting, Cook drawed 5with oxen he commended this morn. I helped loadthis P.M. Dea Pond & Jos. had worked most of theday drawing up. Father up to bed ten. (A. Fallett leftthis morn.) Alvah came & got Ella today.

    Very Pleasant & very Cold.

    Drawed logs to mill (crookus) with my oxen.W.Cook with had oxen. Went 4 load each to mill.Had Dea Pond sawed up. G.E. Frost most of P.M.from 2 oclock Had Grant come and get a load of 26lbs of hay. I cleared off the leaks in morn.

    Very Driving Snow Storm

    The worst for many years. The cars havent beensince morn. It is 9oclock P.M. The roads are bankedvery bad. Past the shed into the shop. The cart androll into the barn. It took a long time to do thechores. The snow had drove in most every where.

    9 above at 8 a.m.Has been very windy. Blustering snow blowing butthe sun has shown part of the day. Very Cold. Waterpipes were frozen in the morn, cant thaw out thepipe in horse barn. Sawed a little wood. Thawing outthe pipes. Cleaning out the cow yard. Went fromhere to Dea Pond with my oxen. Breaking out theroad about 2 hrs. Other cars havent been yet.

    Very Pleasant & very Cold. Windy P.M. Workedabout home in P.M. Helped father some in the shop.Mend ,chores, fix wedges , cleared out some snow.

    Shoveled path, & c. The fences froze this morn.This P.M. have been breaking out roads with oneoxen, 21/2 or 3 hrs. These roads are very badlydrifted. The engine car went as far as Clarks or theswamp (from Blackstone).

    Very Pleasant and very Cold, morn. Have been athome all day, no meeting. The cars havent comethrough from Boston yet , they came down againfrom Blackstone to work again this morn.

    Began to storm last night. Has been very drivingSnow Storm. Has stormed most all day. Some rain.The roads are all filled up again. The cars have notbeen yet. Cut up my beef steak. Pickled it this P.M.Have been at work on the road 5 hrs. and had myoxen 2 hrs.

    Very Pleasant & Cool. Worked on the road with myoxen, 8 hrs.. Shoveled considerable. I ate dinner atHermans. Two engines came with the cars. Mail

    the first since last week. Came about 1 oclock. Norefrigeration yet.

    Cloudy A.M. and part of P.M. Cold, Chilly wind.Worked on the road most of the day with oxen, 4 to 6 hrs., we went as far as A. Walases with theteam. I shoveled up to the line by Dea Ponds. Thecars went down past -?-. No mail and came back at 5oclock but brought the daily papers except today.

    Very Pleasant & Cool Shoveled paths, cut the iceand snow out off away from the tub in the cow yardand helped father fix my ox sled. I carried a plank toJos. Clark. Got sawed for sled shoes. Wimm owed afew cranberries. Carried S.M. Fraser home to DeaPonds.

    Very Pleasant & Cold morn Took the shoes off ofmy ox sled and than put up some 1 bulk of corn.Some potatoes, 4 bushel . Went to Woonsocket.

    Emeline went with me. Elmer fell down the stairsin the store this eve & hurt him.

    SATURDAY 26Stormy rain & some thawing -?- to Boston in themail train. It came late. Got to Boston between 11 &12. Called and see Miss M. Ingraham at Randallstreet and about . Came home in the mail train. Thefreight engine was off the track. The tire broke andwas late home.

    Very Pleasant & Cold & Windy Helped some aboutthe washing. Father & I had the strong ox sled &fixed in some long bolts. We made an -?- to make

    pins in for an inch hole.

    Very Pleasant & Windy & Cold Shoveled somepaths, a place to drive the sled up to the woodhouse. Feared up some in wood house this P.M.Went with my oxen. Broke or shoveled a road toJos. Wood pile & got a small cord for father.

    Foggy , warm & Thaws. Have been to meeting allday. Rev. Brigham preached. Was very few out tomeeting. It is very bad going. We went with the

    sleigh. Very Sloppy.

    Very Pleasant & Warm. Helped about the washingsome. Chored about home. Helped grind up the newBilhoak in P.M. Went up to the pine lot to see aboutchopping. Cut & brought home a little birch. Willie& Hattie Cadmas came this P.M. I am at C.W.Scotts watching tonight.

    Thawed. Watched last night with Chs. W. Scott. Heis very sick. I carried Mrs. Hancock home toBellingham. Went to Crooks saw mill this P.M.Took a nap on the sofa. Jos. Cross chopped pines forus in P.M.. First he has working.

    Very Pleasant & Warm. Went to Crooks mill about8 & rolled in logs, 1 hrs. helped. W. Cookcame about 9 & worked till night. Dea Pond & J.

    Cross worked on the pines trimming & sawing up. Iwent -?- from the mill to the lot & sawed trimmedtill night.

    hams & washed to smoke. Went to the funeral ofChs. Westcott & fixed the shed pole. Helped -?-fix his -?- & cut -?-wood. Geo. Went home this eve.

    Very Pleasant & Very Windy. Been growing coldall day. Went to meeting in A.M. Rev. Tiltonpreached. Was no meeting this P.M. It rained veryhard last night. The water is very high today.

    oxen drawing in logs & drawing away boards. Jashelped me 5 hrs. Drawed up with my sled on bearground. Jos. Cross worked sawing up pines. ThisR.R. changed hands today & ran into Summer St.depart.

    Feb. TUESDAY 12 1867Pleasant & thawed some. Worked in the woods allday on the pines. Jos. cross sawed up. J.W. Cookdrawed logs, 4 load to mill with Jos. & my oxen onthe wagon. Jos. worked 5 or 6 hrs.

    Pleasant & Warm, thaw. Worked on pine lot till 4oclock P.M. J.W. Cook drawed logs with Jos. &my oxen, 3 loads. Wheel broke down & weborrowed Crooks. J. Cross worked & Dea Pond inP.M. Jos. worked part of the day from 9 or 10 A.M.till 4 P.M. Father went to Boston. Went with thecart as far as M. Thersons.

    Cloudy most of the day & rained a little in P.M.

    Worked in woods. Went to mill with load the nextthe wagon wheel broke down so we couldnt cartany more in P.M. I came home & got the horse &went & got the wheel. Got home about 4 P.M. J.W.Cook worked with Jos. & my oxen till the wheel broke than sawed. Dea Pond sawed & trimmed.Jos. came at 11 & worked till 3 or 4 P.M. sawing &father carried. Jos. wheeled to Franklin.

    Cloudy most the day, wind is growing Colder. Wentup in the woods after the cars ,9 oclock train.Stayed till night. J. Cross and J. Cook helped saw

    and trim this P.M. Dea Pond helped . Jos. went toBoston. Father carried this wheel off to be fixed.

    Cloudy & Cool but thawed some. Worked on thepines. Drawing logs to Croaks mill on the sled. 4loads each. J.W. Cook & I. J. Cross worked on thepines, he broke his saw. Jos. & Emeline have beento Boston. Father drawed some birch & cut wood.

    Storm. Snow & rain most all day. Cold. Went withthe horse & sled & got 2 old logs in Rockwood lot.

    Got the saw. Fixed a-?- and carried them to J. Clarkto -?- to saw mill. G. E. Frost cut wood for me inshop & wood house this P.M. Fred Newell heretoday.

    Storming, Snow & Rain. Thawed some. Went tothe funeral of Mr. Rubin Cook & helped them set &wait on the tables. Was, I guess, 60 or 70 there todinner. Father went as one of the bearers.

    Stormy most of the day but cleared off in P.M.Warm & very thawy helped some about theworking. Fixed the sitting room car -?- down

    went & got some milk to -?- of hers. Mrs. N.M.drawed a large sled load of logs to Crookes mill &away some boards. Jos. helped till 4 oclock & Geo.E. Frost helped till 5 oclock. Drawed a load of 2long -?-.

    Cloudy & began to Storm before noon. Snow &rain. Worked on the pines in A.M. J.W. Cooksdrove the team. Carried the load of 2 to the mill thatwas on the sled & 2 load more to J.W. Whiting. 8logs from the lot. J. Cross worked in A.M. & DeaPond & Jos. about 2 hrs. I have been in at Mrs. H.

    Richardsons this eve.

    Cloudy & thaw. Worked on the pines helping load& unload. J.W. Cook drove the team. 2 sled load inA.M. & 2 wagon load in P.M. Drawed 2 large logsout to the top of the hill tonight. J. Cross chopped &Dea Pond & Geo. E. Frost in P.M. Jos. gone toBoston, Salem & about.

    Cloudy A.M. Cleared off in P.M. Cold & windy.Drawed 1 load of logs with the horse then drawed &stuck up boards with him till I came home at

    oclock. J.W. Cook drawed 5 load of logs with theox team. I helped unload. J. Cross chopped &Greenwood & Dea Pond most of the day.

    Very driving Snow Storm most all day. Began lastnight Stayed at home all day. Was no meeting. Itsnowed & blowed so.

    Clear but very blustering. Snow blowing & Cold.Worked on the pines on the further lot in A.M. FirstP.M. J.W. Cook drove team 2 load in A.M. & 2load in P.M. on the sled. J. Cross chopped & DeaPond the day Jos. snow about 1 foot deep.

    Cloudy & Windy. Very Chilly but thawing. J. W.Cook & I with the oxen drawed 1 load of logs toCrooks mill. Drawed away boards in A.M. In P.M.

    drawed 3 load of logs down to an old shack. Onefrom further & one from first lot. J. Cross & DeaPond sawed on first lot. G. E. Frost in P.M. Jos.went to Boston. We signed Uncle Richardsons willtonight.

    Cloudy & thawy. Have been to meeting all day.Rev. E. Burgess preached. We went with the horseand sleigh in A.M.. Very bad going, snow &windy. Marianne went to Woonsocket to her sisters-?-.

    Stormy, rained most of the day. I helped fathermove & fix 2 iron bars & 3 chains & than pickedover a lot of seed beans to sell. This P.M. I rolled ina few logs at J.B. Whitings mill. He commenceddoing them. Sawed up an oak tree father cut in frontof old barn, 3 horse sled. Looked over accts. withDea Pond.

    Very Pleasant 7 Warm. Jos. & I rolled in logs 1/8an hour or more at J.B.W. mill. Than we went intothe pine lot about 10 & stayed till most 4. Jos. came

    home at 11 & stayed 2 hrs. letting out hissleepers. J. Cross sawed and chopped. Geo. E. Froststarted the day on the first lot. Clark got some sledsettled with Mrs. Bardon.

    Pleasant part & Cloudy part of the day. Began torain about 5 P.M. Commenced to sow the rye butwind blew so gave it up. Picked apples, the

    greenings by the old shop & all in little orchard.Raked up the rowen. Reda Newell helped & DavidGilmore dug 5 or 6 bags of potatoes.

    Very Pleasant but windy, Cool. Finished sowing therye. Jos. helped sow part of it. Reda Newellharrowed it in then he picked a few apples & somecranberries. I got in some squash, pumpkin, & c. Mr.Bowens Cole, 1 hour. J.W. Cook worked for me thisP.M. We raked cranberries.
