Organ transplantation is the best therapeutic alternative for patients withterminal organ failure. The transplant procedures are only possible with theparallel development of a program of organ donation.

Currently there are 103 countries in the world which perform transplantactivity, but only 9.7% of them achieved good donation figures

The World Health Organization in its resolution WHA63.22 from May 2010, hasrequested to the countries to collect data on the practices of transplantationhighlighting the importance of develop registries in this area.

Organ donation and transplantation data availability can help to the overallimprovement of this activity in the world. Worldwide register’s existence couldgive transparency to the donation activity and may contribute to theelimination of organ trafficking and transplantation tourism. In addition todetermine the impact of governmental projects can be analyzed.

What IRODaT is?The International Registry in Organ Donation and Transplantation (IRODaT)was created in 1998 as initiative of Transplant Procurement Management(TPM) program with the aim of support the transplant community by providingup-to-date data on organ donation and transplantation worldwide. It becomesIRODaT the oldest register in this area.

The IRODaT is a friendly open registry accessible to all professionals who

are involved direct or indirect with donation and transplantation. As well asIRODaT is able to provide basic statistics with a short timeframe, based on a

network of experts involved in the organ donation and transplantation processworldwide.

NewsIn order to continue supporting the transplant community, IRODaT havedeveloped a new database is hosted in www.irodat.org

New levels of data reporting have been opened : National,–Regional-Hospital.Hence, any similarities or differences between countries, regions and/orcenters can be identified.

National and comparative statistics carried out on an international basis canbe provided. They have turned out to be of an extreme value to scientificprograms, social and governmental bodies.

How join us?Nacional, Regional and Hospital health organizations are invited to participatein the project once they start to announce their organ donation activity amongthe international community.
