DI MODAISSUE>>3 MARCH 2013
Now that the winter's gone, the earth has lost Her snow-white robes. Spring is finally here, and I’m super exited to present you the March issue of DI MODA. When I started to put it together I was thinking “spring” but I did not want it to be all about flowers and patterned clothing. You’ll see some colorful spreads and some dark/edgy ones. Hopefully in here you’ll find some fresh ideas and styles. As usual this could not have been done with out the help of the amazing photographers and their teams!
In page 36 and 54 you can see the two editorials that I did myself here in Denver, Colorado. I had so much fun working with In page 36 and 54 you can see the two editorials that I did myself here in Denver, Colorado. I had so much fun working with some amazing talented local artists that have believed in me and my work. Due to the amount of submissions I’ve been receiv-ing lately, I have decided to stop releasing an issue every month. From now on DI MODA will be released every three months, that means four issues per year.
As I promised, on every issue I will feature a person that I believe deserves “The artist of the month” title. This time we came across with Sara Cooper, she is a fashion stylist from New York city. Please check out the Q&A in pages 30 and 31.

Sara CooperA Q&A with
Fashion & wardrobe stylist

DI MODA: Where were you born? What kind of influences did your upbringing have on your work?Sara Cooper: I was born and raised in New York City. I think grow-ing up inManhattan had a great deal of influence on everything about me,including my work. The juxtaposition of “uptown” and “downtown” has always fascinated me. The fact that there are so many people that are so different in so many ways, all wanting the same thing, to live here in this place, is amazing to me. I’d never want to live anywhereexcept NYC.
DI MODA: Where do you find most of your inspiration?Sara Cooper: In New York City, there’s so much inspiration everywhere, sometimes it can be overwhelming, and sometimes we everywhere, sometimes it can be overwhelming, and sometimes we just take it for granted because there’s such an abundance of it every-where around us, we can sometimes forget to appreciate it. The sub-ject is always my greatest source of inspiration – be it a model or mu-sician, their personality and look play a huge role in the vision for me.
DI MODA: How would you describe your personal aesthetic? What really separates you from the rest of the up and coming stylists?Sara Cooper:Sara Cooper: A thread throughout my work and personal style is something uncomplicated and effortless. I think my personal style and work actually have a lot to do with one another - I’ve always been drawn to menswear inspired looks and more androgynous styles. I think the sexiest and strongest woman is the one who can pull it off in a pant-suit. I’m a collaborator – I love being a part of the process and working with my team on the full story, from inspi-ration stage, to creation, to final product - I love to be involved in ration stage, to creation, to final product - I love to be involved in the vision.
DI MODA: Anyone or anything that you’re musing over currently?Sara Cooper: I have always been obsessed with Chloe Sevigny and Alexa Chung. I love how they keep it simple and at the same time have the greatest personal style and such recognizable looks.
DI MODA: How is your business growing? What kinds of projects have you been involved with recently or to come?Sara Cooper: I work on fashion editorial, commercial and advertis-ing, as well as personal styling. My favorite thing about being a stylist is that every day of the week is different – one day I’mstyling a look book, the next I’m prepping for a fashion editorial shoot, and that evening I could be working with a private client on curating their wardrobe for the coming season. Every day brings a newness and excitement!
Sara Cooper is a Fashion & Wardrobe Stylist based in NYC, specializing in fashion editorial, commercial and advertising, and per-sonal styling. With nearly 10 years experience in the industry, she has worked with everyone from Donna Koran, Net-a-Porter, and Intermix to Target and Macy's. DI MODA: Did you go to school?Sara Cooper: I studied Textile and Apparel Design at Cornell Uni-versity.
DI MODA: How did you start building your clientele?Sara Cooper: After school, I did window styling and visual mer-chandising for Intermix. I think having worked so closely with so many great brands, I had a good understanding of the importance of branding and having a strong aesthetic.
DI MODA: How would you describe your personal style?Sara Cooper: My personal style is very inspired by menswear and comfort! I absolutely do not have the patience or ability to be run-ning around and on my feet all day in 6” heels - although I commend those who can and look good doing it! I love sneakers and mixing prints. I don’t wear a ton of color, but when I do commit to a print I can wear it forever. I’m a huge fan of uniform dressing, and I do not believe in wearing clothes once.
DI MODA: What are some of the key elements to becoming a great stylist? What do you like to pay attention to while working with clients?Sara Cooper: I think the key to being successful is realizing what a privilege itis to be able to make a living working in this industry. At the end ofthe day, being a stylist is a great creative outlet and a way tocollaborate with other talented individuals.collaborate with other talented individuals.
DI MODA: What kinds of things are your favorites to style? Anyone, brands, or events in particular?Sara Cooper:Sara Cooper: I love working with musicians – I’ve always been obsessed with music, but I have zero musical ability (I gave both guitar and piano a whirl, when I was younger, unfortunately it seems I don’t have the patience or discipline to excel at either). Styling actually sort of began as my way into that world, and I’ve had the opportunity to work with dope artists like Kid Cudi and Phoenix. Working with someone who has such an understanding of their own brand is the coolest. Styling for fashion editorials can of their own brand is the coolest. Styling for fashion editorials can also be an amazing experience – when you’re working with a model that brings de-signs to life, and a photographer that has a vision, there’s endless possibilities forcreativity.
