Programme accreditation of ARM programme from CILIP

Middle East College (MEC) received programme accreditation for the Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Archives and Records Management (ARM) programme from the Chartered Institute for Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), United Kingdom, on 23rd January 2019.

Another of our students, Aziza Al Mahrouqi, won the award for the Best Actress in Second Role at the Aldin Arab Festival.

Our alumnus, Qahtan Al Hsani, won the award for the Best Second Role Actor at the Aldin Arab Festival.

Khalid Al Kaabi, a student of MEC, won the Best Media Coverage Award at the Aldin Arab Festival.

MEC students won the 3rd position in National Bank of Oman Hackathon 2018 – College category.

Our students and alumni, Amal Al Dhakri, Khalifa Al Riyami, Fatma Al Naamani and Hitaf Al Balushi, won individual and team awards at the 2nd Oman Forum for Photography.

MEC Winter School 2019

Middle East College (MEC) hosted a student delegation from South Korea, consisting of 20 students from the Hanyang University, South Korea, to participate in the MEC Winter School 2019 programme held from 27th January 2019 to 21st February 2019 at the college premises, Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM). The one month programme included various events and activities such as projecting Omani Culture, and Omani art and handicrafts, sessions for learning the Arabic language, Calligraphy workshop, Entrepreneurship Workshop, Omani traditional games, and field trips to the popular Omani touristic places.

Middle East College (MEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Buraq Technology LLC, at the college premises, Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM) in January 2019. The agreement signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Kiran G. R., Dean, MEC, Mr. Bab Jan Muhammed, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Buraq Technology LLC, and other members from both institutions

Career Guidance Programme: towards a better career path for Computing students

Department of Computing at Middle East College (MEC) organised a career guidance programme for its final year Diploma and Bachelor project in January 2019, at the MEC Student Hub, MEC premises, Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM). The event covered lots of technological trends and demands of the industry. It aimed at enhancing the employability skillsets of the students and prepare them to build up a better career path

4th MEC International Conference on Big Data and Smart City

The 4th Middle East College (MEC) International Conference on Big Data and Smart City (ICBDSC) 2019 was organised on the 15th of January 2019 at the MEC Student Hub in MEC premises, Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM). The inauguration ceremony was held under the auspices of Shiekh Talal bin Said Al Mamari, Chief Executive Officer, Oman Telecommunication Company (Omantel) , in the presence of other eminent people from the public and private sectors. The conference aimed to bring together researchers, designers, developers and practitioners interested in the advances and applications in the field of smart cities, green information, communication technologies, sustainability, energy aware systems and technologies to realize the smart communities of the future. 124 paper submissions from 22 countries around the world were received by the conference committee, and a total of 44 papers were accepted after conducting an intensive IEEE approved blind peer review process.

Department of Computing organised "Innovations in ICT projects" event

The Department of Computing at Middle East College (MEC) organised the "Innovations in ICT projects" event at the MEC premises on 3rd January 2019. The event was attended by the final year project students, participants from other higher educational institutions, and MEC staff. It showcased the participants' innovative projects and ideas. It was aimed to provide knowledge, motivate the current students and encourage student research in the field of ICT.

Campus to Corporate: Are you ready for your future?

The Department of Management Studies at Middle East College (MEC) organised a workshop named "Campus to Corporate" on 31st December 2018 at the MEC Student Hub. The workshop was presented by Khimji Training Institute, Muscat, and attended by MEC students, alumni and staff members. It was aimed at equipping the students with the necessary skillsets and competencies essential for facing the corporate and career world. The skills needed to adapt to the challenging transition from campus life to corporate and work life were discussed during the workshop.

Job market boosted by 1307 MEC graduates

The Middle East College (MEC) held its Annual Graduation Day to celebrate the graduation of its students of the 2018 batch, in December 2018, at the MEC Student Hub, Knowledge Oasis Muscat. A total of 1307 students graduated from various Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes offered by the college in the fields of Engineering, Science and Technology, Business and Management, and Archives and Records Management. The graduation ceremony was conducted over five sessions for the Diploma, Advance Diploma, Bachelors and Postgraduate awards for various programmes offered by the College.

Alumni Cafe-3 with Wadha Al Busaidi organised by Alumni Affairs office

The Alumni Affairs office organized 'Alumni Café-3' with Ms. Wadha Al Busaidi, a specialist in Media and Digital Marketing. The session focused on ways to create their own career opportunities, and the significance of using social media channels to get hired. Members also shared their experience about resources and websites to help them improve their skills to earn internship opportunities.

Participation of MEC students in Slush 2018

MEC students participated in the Slush 2018 conference that was held in Helsinki, Finland, on 4th and 5th December 2018. The conference brought together entrepreneurs, startups, large companies, media corporations and investors from all over the world.

Oman’s Entrepreneurial Leaders programme at MEC

The Middle East College (MEC), in partnership with Coventry University (CU) and the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education, organised a one-year long programme titled “Oman’s Entrepreneurial Leaders” during the period April 2018 - March 2019. The programme was a joint academic

development programme UK/Gulf sponsored by the Gulf Science Innovation and Knowledge Economy Programme and managed by the British Council. The first module delivery of the programme was conducted from 17th to 19th December 2018.

Omani National Day celebrated at MEC

MEC celebrated Oman’s National Day on the 27th of November 2018 at the college campus. The event included various activities like a horse show, traditional dances, a drawing competition and performances by school students

Lecture on Lean Management organised by Department of Management Studies

The Department of Management Studies at Middle East College (MEC) organized a Guest Lecture on “Lean Management- Philosophy and Practical Insights” delivered by Mr. Naveen Narayanan, Managing Director, SSA international LLC, Sultanate of Oman. The event was held on 19th November 2018. About twenty faculty members from the Department of Management Studies attended the programme.

Participation in ASME training conference

Mohammed Abdullah, a student of the Mechanical Engineering programme, MEC, and Chair of ASME MEC Student Section, participated in a training conference designed to shape and develop the skills of the participants to become young leaders for the future. The conference was organized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in Pittsburgh, USA.

Student delegation from Palestine hosted by MEC

MEC hosted a student delegation from various Palestinian universities on 13th November 2018. The delegates were introduced to the college services and programmes

Consumer exhibition organised at MEC

MEC organized a Consumer Exhibition from 5th to 7th November 2018, as part of the activities conducted during the MEC Week, Fall 2018. The exhibition included various displays supporting entrepreneurship and businesses like bookshops, virtual reality games, perfumes, food products and others.

Al Ibdaa International School students hosted at MEC

MEC hosted students from the Al Ibdaa International School on the 6th of November 2018. The students attended a workshop introducing them to MEC life, its services and programmes. In addition, a campus tour was organized for the students to explore the MEC campus.

Health and Safety Week organized by MEC

MEC organized a Health and Safety Week from 29th to 31st October 2018, at the college premises. The event aimed at raising awareness of the HSE practices and matters among MEC members. It included various activities like Blood Donation, a Cancer Awareness programme, sports and other competitions

Mohammed Bin Shiekhan School students hosted at MEC

MEC hosted students from Mohammed Bin Shiekhan School on the 6th of November 2018. Duing their visit, the students were introduced to MEC, its services, programmes, activities and campus.

MEC Week Fall 2018

MEC organized the MEC Week from 4th to 8th November 2018 at the college campus. The event included various activities and workshops like Paper Plan competition, Badminton competition, Academic Integrity workshops, Self-assessment workshop, Designing a game character competition and PC assembling and troubleshooting, to name a few.

Middle East College Student Advisory Council for 2018-2019 elected

The nomination process for Student Advisory Council (SAC) for the academic year 2018-2019 was conducted at Middle East College (MEC) in October 2018 in the presence of Dr. Saleh Al Shaaibi, Associate Dean – External Relations and Community Outreach, Head – Community Outreach and Activities Department, Staff members of Activities Office and the 17 elected candidates. The council appointed Nasser Salim Al Shuraiqi as the President of SAC, Mohammed Al Farii, Vice-President, Muhammad Abdullah, Head of Academic Affairs Committee, Usman Khalique, Head of Students Services Committee and Taneem Mohammed, Head of Activities and Initiatives Committee. Each committee in the SAC has four other members to assist the Head of each committee, in conducting various activities and carrying out responsibilities

MEC’s Library and Learning Resources Centre hosted Katie Mann, Academic Liaison Librarian, Partnerships; Computing, Electronics and Mathematics, Coventry University, U.K. She conducted workshops on the topics: “Advanced Library Database Search” and “Finding Useful Academic Resources online”.

Music and Drama Society welcomed new members

The Music and Drama Society at MEC organized a meeting on 22nd October 2018, to elect the society’s management and register the new students who are interested in music and drama

Concert organized by MEC Music and Drama Society

The Music and Drama Society at MEC organized a concert by Mahmood Al Noufali, on 24th October 2018, at the MEC Student Hub. The event was attended by guests from different walks of life which included MEC students and staff. It aimed to raise funds for charity and engage MEC members in community outreach events.

MEC Achiever’s Day 2017-2018

MEC organized the MEC Achiever’s Day for the academic year 2017-2018 on 23rd October 2018, at the MEC Student Hub. Dr. Kiran, G.R., Dean, MEC, Dr. Saleh Al Shaaibi, Associate Dean – External Affairs and Community Outreach, Dr. Anupam Srivastav, Associate Dean – Academic Affairs, and MEC staff and students attended the event. Over 100 students and staff were awarded for their achievements in various academic and non-academic areas and for their community outreach initiatives.

“Let’s create Electronics Circuits” Competition conducted

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at MEC organized a competition named “Let’s create Electronics Circuits” on 17th October 2018. The competition aimed at enhancing the skills of students in the area of electronic component connections. It was attended by Electronics and Telecommunication programme students and faculty

The Middle East College (MEC) organized the Orientation Programme for its new students for Fall 2018 on the 23rd and 25th of September 2018 at the MEC Student Hub, Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM).
