Dark Gift Combat Fighting System Houston s Foremost Authority and premier RealityBased Martial Arts, Street defense Facility.

Gross Motor Skill Set This was an article I wrote in our 5 th issues, I still get asked this question

OK, Now D.G.C.F.S. Syllabus is an ever evolving growing adapting combative science.

What makes D.G.C.F.S. so different from T.M.A., M.M.A. is that we look at combat not

as sport or self perfection but perfection in combat although we do not exclude self

perfection it is just a by product just as a black belt is, WE are a R.B.M.A. training

center a BLACK BELT for us is a byproduct. Teaching you to SURIVIE is the GOAL.

D.G.C.F.S. starts from the very essences of FEAR & PRIDE , Why? Fear & Pride is

    your enemy.

    1) Fear that adrenaline dump that gets you when you are scared or startled. You know

that FLINCH, That gross motor movements that the human body naturally reverts to ina

panic induced state. That heart pounding reaction to what is happening or about to

    happen.

    2) Pride is a high or inordinate opinion of one's own dignity, importance, merit, or

superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc.

have trained with Martial Arts Instructors, Masters, and Combat Instructors that

sometimes fall in to that category. IF you think you know it all or IF you do not want to

see the TRUTH, PRIDE before the fall. Those 2 things Ladies and Gentleman can stopyou from growing as a person and a Martial Artiest and Combat Instructor. D.G.C.F.S.

starts your training with simple gross motor techniques, but what are Gross motor sk

    - well simply they are large-muscle groups like squads, hams, biceps and triceps ect. In

fact, they are enhanced by the affects of fear and stress. Therefore it makes total

sense to rely on gross motor skills when a self-defense response is needed and can be

applied under stressful circumstances. The 1 st level in the Gross Motor Skill set we

teach at D.G.C.F.S. is the FLINCH Drills, These flinch drills work from our PASS

AGGRESSIVE stance. It counters punching and tackles and teaches how to handle the

ADRENALINE DUMP. Our hands start in the surrender position palms facing out andfingers up. To the untrained eye it looks like you give and you do not want a problem.

This is also good for eyewitnesses to help IF you go to court That is another article

In this position you are giving the assailant visual cues that you are not aggressive, but

the whole time you are ready to open a can of whoop Butt which is not reseal able Since your hands are up you can protect

against any punches that are coming at you or IF they try to tackle you.

Operation Fit 2 Fight Quick Fix:

The best workout for travel or at home when you are short on time! FormerNFL rushing leader, Emmitt Smith, was known for performing quick and

explosive workouts that required little or no use of exercise equipment. A lotcan be learned from Emmitt Smith and his workouts. His physical strength andendurance helped him lead the Dallas Cowboys to three Super Bowl victories(1993, 1994 and 1996) and he is ranked #1 in the all-time rushing leader list.Emmitt Smiths workouts are effective, and most of his workouts take less than30 minutes to complete. Whether you are on the road or at home, following is aworkout that I perform when I am short of time and need a fitness quick fix:1. Aerobics (for warming up the body): Examples: Running in place; Side-

    Straddle- Hops; Jumping Jacks ; High Steps/Knees (6 Minutes), or jog a mile.2. Dynamic stretching (4 Minutes)3. Squats (80-100 repetitions) 4. Lunges (80-100 repetitions, each leg) 5.

Sit-ups or Crunches, legs elevated (100-120 repetitions) 6. Push-ups(male standards: 70-80 repetitions; female standards: 30-40 repetitions)Remarks: A. You may take breaks while attempting to achieve your

exercise repetition goal, providing that the breaks are no longer than 3minutes each. B. Perform each exercise in sequence and allow no morethan 2 minutes break in between each exercise. C. To superset, reduce thebreak time in between the exercises to no more than 20 seconds each.Equipment Needed: None Stamina Stopwatch The Stamina Stopwatchincludes the estimated time it will take to complete each set of the fitnessprogram. Quick Fix: 1 full set = approximately 20 minutes Fast andFurious: 2 full sets = approximately 40 minutes Combat Ready: 3 full sets =approximately 60 minutes

I call it BRAD (Bio-mechanical Responding Anatomical Dummy). This can help training a person to go all the way on chokes, locks, gouges, etc. However, BRAD doesnt scream out in pain as a real person might! This violence, as unnerving, anddistasteful as it may seem to our civil manners is essential to develop. This helps in the desensitization process, a.k.a.- Dwuss out under pressure or when things get nasty! . The other area is to educate the yourself, and/or students that there wilbe unfamiliar sounds-joint snaps, blood curdling agonizing vocalizations, flesh pounding smacks, etc. Next is the sight andfeel of blood- I dont mean creating a theater environment or using elaborate special effects. For the visual all they have to dois watch certain cage matches or watch tapes of actual altercations- this is something of a given in our field as by doing so wecan further ingrain in our minds what sort of behavior and actions to anticipate in given situations. I suggest using a mix ofcooking oil, a little bit of corn starch for texture, and red food coloring and mixed correctly (takes some experimenting) you canhave some convincing sanguine solution. If you are on a slippery surface, blood or any liquid becomes a hindrance to propertraction for you and your opponent. Imagine a nightmarish experience of a knife (yours) tearing into a attackers body cavity

Are you prepared for the sight, sound, smell, and feelings for a moment like this? A mistake people do, I see it in pictures inMartial Art Magazines and videos is to keep your mouth open (I dont support open mouth kiai . kee -yups , or other fightingshouts. I suggest keep your mouth shut as much as possible (not a bad thing to do in non-violent situations, also), keep your

jaw tucked, tip of tongue behind teeth resting on the hard palate (slopes upward and often has a natural groove for placementof tongue. This placement not only protects your jaw and mouth, but the tongue positioning aids in saliva production and isbeneficial to avoid cotton mouth that is often an effect of survival fight or flight situations. Now an even stranger reaso n, tavoid getting blood or other fluid splatter into your own mouth- who knows what disease your opponent may carry. Thesubject above is why I advocate hard strikes to soft areas, because hard areas such as the forehead or mouth can produceundesirable results. The advantage of drawing blood can be advantageous in some cases- your attacker may go into a state

of panic or shock, giving you time to escape unless he runs away first. We must prepare ourselves for this insane form ofexperience, otherwise we may be in a state of shock ourselves! Do you want to freeze up in such a gruesome experience? Ihope you are thinking, No way! , by now I hope you get my point. Changing the way we view violence and adapting ourresponses to it is important to survive it! Viewing photos, or movies, of real acts of violence is one way to acclimate the mindto foreign experiences. Here is Caveat 3- Keep in mind, only mentally healthy people should be trusted to do this training, asin a disturbed or susceptible mind this form of training can become a gateway to sadism. It is not for minors! Developingsadistic behavior is not the point of this idea, it is SURVIVAL. Be careful how you share such images and always warn yourstudents as to the content to avoid upsetting sensitive individuals. Com bat isnt for the overly empathetic and most certainlynot for the sadly sympathetic and if you find someone in your group that is too sensitive they have to understand this is aconditioned response and eventually their mind can rewire to tolerate such imagery- the purpose is to avoid that civilizedshock response to violence- this is Critical Desensitization! However, it isnt for everyone, so this may be a special class, andconsult with your lawyer or if you are close to your students before undertaking this type of training- I suggest bothapproaches to cover any chance of liabilities. Perhaps, your contract or Liability Waiver form will suffice. Just take a look over

to check for any chinks in your legal armor. I am not responsible for anybody taking my advice and this article is foreducational purposes only. Stay aware, keep training and develop powerful, critical, and positive thinking!Jonathan E. Kiser is Head Founder of; INTEGRATED COMBATIVE CONCEPTS . He lives in Jacksboro, Texas. Ohio chief lauded for firing back at Kanye WestBrimfield Township Police Chief David Oliver took to Facebookto challenge the rapper after he compare his job to policing.

    The Akron Beacon Journal

BRIMFIELD, Ohio Folks in Northeast Ohio have known Brimfield Township Police ChiefDavid Oliver as the self-proclaimed "Internet Sensation."

This week, the nation is learning it, too, as the gregarious, small-town chief landed onTMZ.com, a popular entertainment website.

Oliver, who runs his department's Facebook page which now has more than 100,000fans took a jab this week at comments musician Kanye West made.

The chief took West to task for comparing his entertainment work to that of a cop.

"I'm putting my life at risk ... This is like being a police officer or something," West said.

Oliver raced to Facebook and fired back with his usual brand of sarcastic humor.

"You, sir, are as misguided as they come. I do have a suggestion for you. Since you areaccustomed to danger, from your life as an international rapper, I am strongly encouragingyou immediately abandon you career as a superstar and join the military.

"After joining, I would like you to volunteer to be deployed in Afghanistan or one of thenumerous other forward locations where our men and women are currently serving. Whenthe Taliban starts shooting at you, perhaps you could stand up and let the words flow.

"It could be something like 'I'm Kanye West, wearing a flak vest.' I'm sure they would justdrop weapons and surrender. You could quite possibly end all wars, just from the enemybeing star-struck."

Brimfield's Facebook popularity rivals New York City and Chicago police departments for"likes."

Dont Draw on a Drawn Gun. Unless You Have To.

I saw this article and thought this would be good for us to read. Two men went inside the Caf Chieu Tim in the 8200 block of Antoine, north of West GulfBank, about 3 p.m., staying there for 30 to 40 minutes. They spoke with the owner andother patrons, chron.com reports. As they began to leave, one pulled a handgun anddemanded cash from the owner. The owner, who was in his late 40s, instead drew hisown pistol and began firing, but was struck by gunfire and fell dead. Oh dear. In case youhadnt figured it out, bringing your weapon to bear on someone pointing a gun at you isstrategically inadvisable . . .It takes a fraction of an instant for a bad guy to squeeze thetrigger. It takes a lot more than a fraction of a second to get your gun out of its holster andbring it to bear on your target and squeeze the trigger. Thats best case. Worse case, youll fumble while entire seconds expire. And then, you. Theres not a lot you can do in th is situation. If you feel you have to do something oththan just stand there, hand over the money and get shot MOVE! Get off the X and thendraw your weapon. Better yet, if possible, depending on the situation and your moral code, continue moving and leave. Some gun gurus suggest throwing the money (or whatever) atthe bad guy and then moving and drawing. Im not so sure. A bad guy holding a gun willinstantly perceive any object moving towards him as an immediate threat and respondaccordingly. All that said, there are times when an armed self-defender has no choice. For

example, if one of the two robbers had begun assassinating customers, well, what wouldthe owner have to lose? By the same token, if the bad guys are about to assassinatepeople (e.g., he rding people into a back room), its chocks away. By the way, this tragicevent is not an argument against armed self-defense. The unnamed cafe owner had theright to keep and bear arms and the right to decide when, where and how to use hisfirearm to defend his life, the lives of innocent bystanders and (in some states) hisproperty within the confines of the law. As did the cafes other patrons. OMG! A WildWest shootout! Yes, well, robberies can and do lead to summary executions. Its better tohave a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it. Yes, even if you cant useit. Because you may have to, anyway. If you know, what I mean.Robert Farago is the Publisher of The Truth About Guns (TTAG). He started the site toexplore the ethics, morality, business, politics, culture, technology, practice, strategy, dangers and fun of guns.

Mr.TraylerYou are so full of B.S. What is reality about your Martial Arts. Crap Maga, Wing FUN,Tae Quck Do. Try Mix Martial Arts That the REAL DEAL. Get a clue YOU are a LAIR anda cheat Dum A@#$.Sub Fighter.

Mr.Trailor I have been in the Martial arts for over 40 years like yourself and I can not believe the stuffyou are spewing out on your website. I disagree with ALMOST ALL of IT becauseTraditional Martial arts like Karate, Jujutsu, Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu San Soo weremade for combat on the battlefield and it has been proven in battle. I have heard so many, many times that Reality Based Martial Arts are better than Traditional Martial Arts fortodays violent world. I do not agree with this statement WHAT SOEVER becauseTraditional Martial Arts were made for combat centuries ago and I have read that mostReality Based Martial arts have some kind of Traditional Martial Art background. RealMartial Artist can do everything a Reality Martial Artist can do. Do you agree/disagree witheither of these statements? Traditional Martial Arts offer not only self defense, fitness, discipline and self confidence, but so much more. Traditional training extends theboundaries of everyday life and creates an invincible mindset in whatever task you need toaccomplish. Sir you are Lost and confused about what Martial Arts are.Mr. Chambers Hachidan

Mr.Traylor As a veteran of both police work and the martial arts since 1984, I know all towell the real importance of being able to protect oneself... no matter what. My Rebuttal This is my Rebuttal to some of these remarks and my view. D.G.C.F.S . does NOTREPLACE what you have learned, get it? Does NOT REPLACE what you have learned.

just gives you additional tools for a physical altercation.1 st let us think logically about martial arts systems and why you train and how you train.Logic does not always prevail in most T.M.A. systems. NOW I said most, NOT ALL .WHY? You are not allowed free speech and to question, what you do or why you do it.Here is a great example: You ask a question- Why are we doing this technique likethis? Answer - Because this is how we have been doing it for 600 years and when theycome at you this way this is what you do My answer would be as a R.B.C. instructor to a

client/student is a complete logical response so the client/student can thoroughly understand the tactic and see the logic behind what they are doing and why they are training with that method. Now here is arealistic way to look at R.B.C. training. Our military has progress in technology. Right? Then why is it that most martial artssystem are caught in the past in the way that they train? Not that the techniques they use wont work, just their trainingmethods. Lets look at it logically. If I was to say to you that a horse was the best form of transportation to day because wewere using it 600+ years ago, you would most likely call me a stupid. Yet, why is it that when someone who says that theirart/system was created 600 years ago so it is the best form of self defense because it has been proven for over 6000+years

and it has roots and most people believe it?, yet R.B.C. do not have roots and no structure its to young ectas I have beentold by some Masters & Grand Masters. Look It comes down to some very important key factors that influence peoples beliefsabout martial arts ,Mixed Martial Arts and Reality Based combative training:1. Tradition Can get you killed. Dont putTradition in front of logic. Use common sense.2. Movies I saw guys flipping off walls to anther wall and dogged bullets but hey we all know that is a movie dont we?.Wdo people see a martial arts action hero and start perceiving that their demonstrations of their ability are fighting skill? Theyare actors and they are there to entertain us. Of course they are skilled athletes but not one of them can perform that in a reallife situation. I am not saying they cant fight or they do not have talent, but it is Choreography. So dont think you can do thiin a street altercation.3. Zen Ever seen martial arts do something amazing? Like laying on spears, touch a person and knocking them out, layinga piece of cloth on your lap and waving his hand over it and it catches fire etc? All are tricks, designed to make you believe inthe concealed secrets of martial arts. All fail to exhibit one thing. Why they are functional in any real world combativeapplication

4.The GOLDEN BOY - So you go to your local martial arts school and dispute logic and they say but wait a minute wehaveJoe who is our best fighter hes good. Just watch this guy, he is an awesome fighter and can move and fight with ease. SurlyIf he can do it you can also right? Wrong.

What they forgot to mention is that they have 90 students and no one can fight except for joe . A good combative system is one where the accumulation of most students are proficient at what they do, not theminority . Some people are great athletes that can apply anything they know. But this is not the mass majority of students. Here is where I stand on Traditional Martial Arts and M.M.A. - I respect all Martial Arts. ALL MARTIAL ARTS, All are advantageous to learn and train in, they have several health and

spiritual benefits, they help get you into shape, they improve discipline, and they are great for kids. I, personally, lovetraditional martial arts and M.M.A. In fact, that is my back ground and it will always be. HOWEVER, there are Instructors outthere that claim their style is street practical & weapon ready, Just Beware of false claims. ok? Make sure that their trainingwill give you TRUE REALITY-BASED training that can save your life and protect your loved ones! Otherwise, RUN... They willget you hurt or killed! This not just my belief. Many others such as The Self Defense Company, Close Combat Comany,P.F.S., Jimmy Wagner, etc. all state the same thing. What we teach will enhance any art you already study. I do not intend to replace what you have learned. That is notthe reason or purpose Of D.G.C.F.S. It is to give you additional tools for a street altercation and let you lookout sideof your style or system to enhance your fighting ability.

Ask yourself... Can you protect your family with traditional martial arts / M.M.A.? POSSIBLY Can you protect yourself if a weapon is used, "knife, stick, gun? POSSIBLY Can you protect yourself if you are stabbed or shot? POSSIBLY

Can you protect yourself if your strong arm or leg is hurt? POSSIBLY Can you protect yourself if there are multiple attackers? POSSIBLY Is "Possibly" a good enough answer ? - When the S#!$% HITS THE FAN and I have to protect my family, I do not want to

depend on "POSSIBLY". I want training that helps me in all of those Categories. My life and my familys lives maybe at stakewant to be able to come home and be with the ones I love. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. My hope is that you NEVER have to fight foryour life... but IF you do, wouldn't you want to have the cards stacked in your favor? HELL YES! So it is for these very reasonsI now to teach R.B.C. it has been a journey. A journey of self discovery and understanding ofcombat/fighting. I am a R.B.instructor and my promise to those who train with me is simple.1. To teach people how to survive in the worst possible situations.2. To make certain that I always respond with a logical and practical solutionIF there is one, sometimes there is just SURVIVE 3. To convey information in the easiest format so that you can apply what I am showing you.4. Knowing you have made thebest investment in training with me.5. To only convey information that is realistic and has purpose to reality based combative

training.Real Martial Artist can do everything a Reality Martial Artist can do. Do you agree/disagree with this statement? My answer: Ok you are playing with words Sir, you wrote Real Martial Artist Not Traditional Martial Artist

A REAL Martial artist would study all aspect of combat not just what is in his style. I.E. ground combatives, gun combativesknife ect..there for yes a Real Martial Artist can but A Traditional Martial Artist MOSTNOT ALL he cannot Doeverything a R.B.M.A. can do, Here is why, 1st and NO FAULT of their own they are limited to only teach what was taught tothem by their Instructor and their federation If they where to teach anything outside their system they could beexcommunicated by their federation. So does T.M.A. train in counter home invasion? How about weaponsof opportunity? How about gun counter gun? Knife counter gun? Does T.M.A. train you in all four Ranges of combat? Not justgrappling or kicking or throws ect?? Does T.M.A. teach modern weapons? Knife or edge weapon, Gun or rifle, Sticks, Now not just defend but also learn how touse these weapons? Modern day weapons . How about Gross Motor Skills, the adrenaline dump? I could go on but I thinkyou get what I am saying Sir.Look there is NO ONE perfect FIGHTING SYSTEM, everyone has a hole or someone will find a hole. Not enough groundcombatives, weapons training, hand vs knife training ect. But what will be more practical for a street altercation and a veryshort learning curve. I as well my Instructors want to be able to teach you how to protect yourself in hours, days maybe evenmonths, not years, YEARS would be to perfect certain techniques or what we call perfection techniques, Gross motor skills iswhat will help you survive a street encounter right away, we will then build from there. Look they are some GREAT T.M.A.systems out there that are ready for street they just dont teach gun vs, gun or knife ect..but hey its better than nothing and italso depends on the instructor as well. Here are some of our mottosTruth in Combat Practical, Tactical, Combative, no Fluff Just Reality Traylor No Rules, No Referees, No points, No Tapping Out .Just youre A$@@$% ON the line. Sheriff's Office training security guards to boost Harris forceBy James Pinkerton | March 22, 2012 | Updated: March 22, 2012 11:37pm

Private security guard talks to Deputy Alfred Gonzales during an eight-hour trainingsession Thursday at the Harris County Sheriff's Academy in Humble.

Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia has trained the first of what he expects will behundreds of private security guards who have signed up to help deputies apprehendwanted suspects, secure crime scenes and search for missing persons. But officials with the county's largest deputy's union are slamming the partnership'seffectiveness and questioning whether Harris County could face legal liability for possiblemisconduct by the private security guards because of the training. Garcia announced thepartnership Thursday at the sheriff's office training academy near Humble, where 60private security guards who passed a background check underwent an eight-hour coursein note-taking, crime-scene preservation, threat detection and dispute resolution. Trainingwill be four times a year, and the sheriff said he hopes to have 200 to 300 securityofficers on board by year's end."It makes sense that we develop a greater coordinationbetween law enforcement and private security so that it ultimately enhances public safetyout in the community," Garcia said. "Because these security professionals are alreadyworking in some of the toughest neighborhood and toughest areas, it makes sense."Continuing education Robert Goerlitz, president of the Harris County DeputiesOrganization, criticized the sheriff's plan."This is nothing but a smoke and mirrors play atsaying we're going to have more boots on the ground, which is ridiculous," Goerlitz said."It's basically a continuing education course for security guards - we're adding to theireducation on the county dime." The sheriff said the security officers, and their companies, are screened and subjected to background checks and are not being deputized or givenenhanced police powers. Garcia said the department will never have the number of

officers it would like patrolling, so it has turned to 25,000 local security officers forassistance. Legal advisers reviewed the partnership, known as Law Enforcement andPrivate Security (LEAPS), "and we're satisfied it is a proper use of county funds andresources," said assistant county attorney Robert Soard.

Larry Karson, a criminal justice instructor at the University of Houston-Downtown, said the partnership has a "great potential"to help criminal investigations."The sheriff's office is trying to develop a partnership with the private industry who are the firstresponders in many cases to crimes on private property," said Karson, who was also a federal law enforcement official. "And ifthey're trained not to contaminate a crime scene when they discover one, it allows the sheriff's investigators to betterprosecute the case." Partnership problems If terrorists attacked a Houston refinery, plant security guards would likely be thefirst to respond, so training them how to preserve evidence and protect the crime scene would be crucial to any investigation,

he said. But such a partnership could create problems with some guards who may decide to abuse their authority, he added."The potential pitfall is some security officer may develop an attitude of wanting to be a law enforcement officer, where theyare a cop wannabe and you have the problem that developed in Florida,'' Karson said, referring to the recent slaying of an

African-American teen by a neighborhood watch officer. Bob Burt, the past president of the Associated Security Services andInvestigators for the State of Texas, said Dallas County has operated a similar program since 1995. Garcia's program differsby including in- house corporate security officers, as well as those working at industrial plants, he said. "Our client base isvery much on board," Burt said, "because they recognize we are increasing our professionalism, our observation skills, in aneffort to help law enforcement but certainly not to replace law enforcement." The security guards will receive a certificate anda uniform pin to show they were trained by the sheriff's office, said spokeswoman Christina Garza. "We certainly don't wantthem to carry out law enforcement duties," Garza said, "but we want them to be the best witnesses, the eyes and ears, to giveus the best information to make that arrest."

    CONT.. from Page 1

In the passive aggressive stance not only are you able to protect yourself but attack at the same time. This wayyou can engage your opponent as he or she attacks you. You can Eye gouge, punch, elbow ect..ect..This is basiclevel 1 in the gross motor skill set.Failure to Flinch meaning you some what freeze or miss your attack line. Then you will go to PRIMAL: They are 3levels in Primal that I teach, COVER/PROTECT ESCAPE. and COUNTER STRIKE. This covers from the stand upposition to ground combatives It trains the students' minds as well as bodies to the idea of being "attacked" andworks towards minimizing the ill effects of the body under a real life, stress induced attack or physical altercation

just like the FLINCH DRILLS. In level 1 of Primal you are put through a combative situation where you are onlyallowed to cover and protect yourself. Up against a wall and open area. Standing up and on your back somewhatpined. The Idea is to protect yourself while punches are being thrown at you and then escape. Level 2 you try tocounter strike when an opening is available, I.E. punch, elbows, knees or kicks , again you on the wall then openarea and on your back. Level 3 we add anther person for a total of 2 people attacking you plus having to gothrough levels 1 & 2 and trying to escape. At level 3 we also introduce elbow destruction. From there we now go to

A.R.C. Action Reaction Continuum. A.R.C. has 3 levels it teaches the student how to Engage, Control ,Take down, and Terminate the attack . This is also done with several scenarios. This is just a small portion of what we teachin the GROSS MOTOR skill set. I did not go into great detail as it would take up a lot ofpages. D.G.C.F.S. is anevolutionary system and as such we will never be behind the learning curve. We strive to make sure that

D.G.C.F.S. is on the cutting edge of training and equipment so that we can deliver the best up to date techniques, training and facility. This is just the basic level in D.G.C.F.S. the way D.G.C.F.S. breaks it down looks likethis.1) Gross Motor skill set 2) Intermediate motor skills 3) Advance motor skill sets, This is also done in the 4ranges of combat, KICKING, BOXING, TRAPPING, And GRAPPLING Weapons are also added. Weapons aremost common in today s society1) body2) Knife3) Stick4) Gun or a variation of those weapons. I hope this smallbit of information on what we teach helps you understand who we are and what we do.Mr.Traylor

Are You Just Going Through the Motions? (Pt 2)

In my previous article I talked about what he or she does with their training once theyleave the classroom setting or a seminar. To reiterate, it is important to practice what heor she learns outside of the safe setting and hones his or her skills of defense whetherknife, gun, sticks, or any other object one deems to be tool of your surrounding for adevastating impact.

Do you go home and practice utilizing it?

For example, gun training/seminars that utilize movement, tactics, andsafety for yourself and/or family. Do you go home and survey your house and establish a plan? Do you practice when you go to bed at night as if you are asleep and

hear a noise? Can you pull a knife while being attacked? Do you ever practice when not dressed as many do sleep naked or in

the shower? Can you defend and use your skill from a vehicle?

I covered noise, reaction time, and practicing pulling a weapon from a sleeping position, and touched on training in the nude in part one of this. So this article will continue on.In the previous article; I hear people and I am told people say well I sleep naked. We all

must train from every aspect. Does one really believe from the time they hear a noisethat is threatening that he or she has time to get dressed? That takes about 5 seconds,in that five seconds your attacker or the person breaking in is already close by and youdo not know where. If you sleep naked, train naked in your home. I do, I maneuver thehouse in the dark and I have weapons throughout my home in the event of me sleepingon the couch, but I would not be naked here. In my room, I grab a gun and roll or I graba blade as if an attacker made it to my room and is on top of me. This keeps my skillshoned and my senses heightened in my sleep. I recommend every one train this for hisor her protection and use the nakedness as a shock to an attacker.

Can you pull a blade while being attacked? Do you practice it alone? How many bladesdo you carry? In the event of being attacked where is the blade located? I carry at theleast two, one as a decoy and one that I can pull while the attacker is ensuring I cannotgrab my decoy. Sometimes I have three; in the event of being taken down if I ammounted I can grab the boot blade. Allowing myself to be mounted is a defense tactic

that I would utilize so I can get to my weapon. Throwing in tactical defense is what will keep him/her alive. It is essential forthose of you who train with blades to be able to pull them under pressure. You can pressure test yourself with timer or askanother person to attack while you figure out how do pull and stab (make sure you use training blades), slashwhatever youneed to do to survive. Defending his or hers elf in a vehiclenow this is a topic that has many sub topics: knife or gun defenseif being car jacked, if he or she is in the car and an attacker is on the inside can you deploy or pull a weapon, can you take fireand return fire, can you get out under f ire, etc. This topic is in-depth and a lot to cover, but not. Where is the placement of your weapons in the vehicle? Is it easy access

from your driver seat? Do you have it on you and is it easy to get to? Once again practice in your vehicle to hone your skills ofdefending yourself. Going to a seminar or training it once or twice does not make him/her an expert after that.In the event of a carjacking a gun would be best, but a knife can work to. Practice your door being opened and beingpulled out, where is your knife going to strike? If you have a gun then it makes it easier when the door is opened you can haveit angled appropriately.

Attacker already in the car , what is his weapon and where is the attacker located? Behind your seat, what are somethings one can utilize, the seat going back, if you have your gun that can be utilized as well as the blade. The mainthing is to make sure the attacker is not focused on your movementshow do we do this? The act scared technique,if he/she becomes cocky in the event of it may not go as you planned. I have utilized the I am scared and crytechnique and it backed the person down. Then I have also used the extremely silent and calm technique meaning Idont care and that throws a person to. They are not sure of your mindset and it does back them down.

Are you receiving fire while in the car? This is one topic I have not done, I would love to train. There are a fewgroups out there that I am looking at so I can have the experience. From what I have heard via Guro Blackgrave whotrains this:

He or she starts off with a Blue Gun building skillso Draw from caro Engage from caro Leave vehicleo Seek cover

After working the skills the Airsoft is slowly put into play where fire is assumedo Safety gear is very important if you dont have it I hope you have good healthcare

While working the Airsoft he or she will have an highly skilled Instructor guiding them from start live fire/singleperson work

Many of the facilities have old cars that are utilized while training Before live fire you must be 110% qualified by a competent Instructor At first the learning and executing is very slow and tedious, you do not get do-overs in training or real life once

    that trigger is pulled

This is as much as I know and I really want to do this one day. Practice outside of the classroom is essential to anypractitioner who wants to save not only his or her life but their family as well. The following quote by Bruce Lee sums it upnicely, the more you practice doing self defense to survive the more ingrained it becomes. Doing it daily, hone your skills;make it so you are the one who has practiced that one kick 10,000 times . If you want to be that force to be reckoned withwhen being attacked. Your practicing/training/mindset is what will save you.I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times. ~ Bruce LeeBy Cristy FedorkaBio : As a child I have always been interested in Martial Arts. I lov ed watching Kung Fu Sundays on USA. Around 11 yearsold my parents allowed me to start training in American Karate, unfortunately I moved to my mothers and training stopped. Istarted training again around 27 years old when I enrolled my son into Tae Kwon Do. We trained under Master Fullington for 3years. I then met Jason Segerson, who trained me in Ninjitsu. I left TKD and trained with another group they titled it StreetKarate, briefly created by Law enforcement officers. I later married Jason so my sole training was Ninjitsu. After our divorce, Ibranched out to train with Instructor Gregory T Slack, a Swat Team member, at his place Gladiators Combat Club in Jackson,TN. He trained me in boxing, Muay Thai, and Krav Maga both privates and class settings. While training with Instructor Slack,I also trained with Guro Adam Buchter in Mande Muda Penchak Silat, Herman Suwanda style and Inosanto Blend FMA. I aslotrained in Memphis with Memphis Kali Silat under Guro Robin Schermerhorn in FMA, his style was a blend of Inosanto, DogBrothers, La Coste and a few others.

I moved to Florida and I practiced with Anthony Chan, FCS Kali and Wing Chun and Aaron Chappell who does PSPSilat. I have also attended with Anthony Chan some of the FCS Kali Instructor Camps. I am constantly keeping my passion intact even though I have had a back surgery that limits certain techniques. One thing I realized in a life or death situationadrenaline and the will to survive prevails.

In this I know most ask my belt or my level, I never tested. I do not believe in the ranking system, it is just a piece ofpaper or a colored belt. I have been training about 12 years now with a few breaks, but my son trains as well so we neverreally stopped. My instructors were okay with my thought process, because I do not need these items to prove to me myabilities. My true test will be when I am on the street and I if I survive .
