THE

GENERAL

Not all people have great experiences with the Chrysler brand, nor are they all die hard Moparians from birth. Others take time and slight coaxing over the years. Will Lee (08daytona) is an example of a born again Dodge enthusiast. Will had a very troubling experience with Dodge in the beginning when he purchased a 1984 Dodge Ram. He bought the truck for $600 and hated every minute of it. The truck would kill batteries, alternators, and voltage regulators; it had a busted frame at the steering box and even blew out both headlights at the same time while driving home from work one night. After he sold it, he swore off Dodge vehicles forever! Fortunately, the Dodge name won him back in the end.

After selling both of his vehicles and borrowing his parents extra vehicle, he

DFWLX Magazine | First Quarter 2014

Page 5: DFWLX Magazine 2014 Q1

stumbled upon the 2008 Dodge Charger Daytona Edition #1010 by chance. While searching for a vehicle, he came across the car sitting at a dealership and after a short 5 hours, he was driving it home. To this day, he claims it was the best purchase he ever made. He likes to keep his Charger relatively stock due to it being his daily driver, yet it still boasts his personal touch.

Will purchased his vehicle in October of 2012 and a few months later joined the DFWLX family after a simple Google search. He saw a club decal on a Charger one day and decided to find more information. Once he found the club, he was hooked. Will loves the members of the club the most. He enjoys “being part of a group of people that come from all walks of life to share the joy and excitement of cars.” One of the factors that helped him decide to join DFWLX was the videos posted on Youtube. “It seemed like everyone was always having a good time doing the shows, cruises, and charity events. I really wanted to be a part of that.”

Will’s military background influences his attitude toward the club as well. “It reminds me of the military in the way that the members really find a way to have fun with each other. If its sweating and getting sunburned like crazy at a car show like Cars for Casa, helping members move, or just hanging out at the monthly meet and greet, everyone always has a smile on their face.”

The Daytona Charger has been dubbed “The General” by Will. He knows it is not a “General Lee” vehicle, but Will was a huge fan of “The Dukes of Hazzard” and his Charger is his own personal take on what the car from the show would be like today. When Will is not supporting the DFWLX club by tagging cars or attending shows, he is building specialty generators for lite POWER. He builds generators for the movie, television, and live entertainment industry.

The family atmosphere and caring members reeled Will in to join the club and have kept him involved ever since.

There are a number of events that DFWLX members look forward to each year. Lone Star Mopar Fest in October is absolutely the top of the list for our members. The location and event day festivities make it a favorite to those in the DFW area. The 2013 Lone Star Mopar Fest was a family-friendly gathering of 2005-2014 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum, Dodge Challenger and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT owners from across the country. The annual gathering offers a car show, drag races, food trucks, and of course vendors for that modern Mopar.

The Lone Star Mopar Fest is held at the Lonestar Motorsports Park on the Hennessey Performance campus in Sealy, Texas. Being right outside of Houston, this event is known for the humidity and heat that Texas avowals. This year Texas brought heavy rains on Friday night during the kickoff event at the Wyndham Houston West host hotel. It made the kickoff Meet and Greet event very difficult to attend as all the cars were outside in the rain. Saturday, however, crowed clear skies and pleasant temperatures for the Show & Shine and the Track Day at Lonestar Motorsports Park.

The event is hosted by Houston’s very own Space City LX Club and Pennzoil Ultra. They have put together a great event with the help of Billet Technology, Advanced Racing Dynamics, ModFX and Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealers. During the event, the Show & Shine allows members to enter their car into the huge car show that spans the grassy parking area with entrants all over Texas and the country. Other participants can push their car to the max with a quarter-mile drag race on Hennessey’s professional track.

When you were done racing and had your car all polished up for the Show & Shine, you could take a break and tour the Hennessey facility just a short golf cart ride away to get a peek at what they were working on next.

This year’s event had over 500 people registered but due to the weather, only 425 showed up. The weather would not keep all away as the ones that did attend, had a great time and enjoyed the smell of Hemi rubber and the sound of SRT performance as well as the looks and shine of the Mopar design. The autocross event was cancelled this year due to the heavy rains causing flooding by the track, but the drag racing was in full force.

At the end of the day, our very own DFWLX member, Jon Szekely (zubock2) took home the Billet Technology Best Challenger Modified Class. It came as a shock as Jon did not expect to win this award, but graciously accepted. The after party at the host hotel featured the LX/LY cars all lit up and ready to show off. It was a perfect way to wind down after a great event. With participants showing up from New Jersey and Arizona, the Lone Star Mopar Fest continues to grow each year.

Even though the dates are not available yet for LSMF 2014, if you can plan to be there, mid-October is when all of this awesome happens in Houston, and this year, we want DFWLX to help SCLX reach record numbers. If you can join us, plan on caravanning to this event with your fellow members and see what all the fuss is about!

Every holiday there are families that do not have enough to provide gifts for their children. Each year, Toys for Tots foundation and the United States Marine Corps take donations from everyone across the country to provide those children with toys to open on Christmas morning. DFWLX has been a part of this tradition for 7 years strong. This year’s toy run was held on December 15, 2013 and was successful as prior toy runs.

The DFWLX 2013 Toy Run did run into a few hiccups, but nothing would slow down the club from donating. The original date the week prior was cancelled due to the infamous North Texas ice storm of 2013. Pedro (EZCORPION) arranged for the next week to be the toy run, yet also had to find a new location as Toys for Tots would not be at the Grapevine Mills location. The Texas Family Christian Celebration graciously allowed the DFWLX family to join their festivities to give back to the community.

DFWLX members met at the Ballpark in Arlington to gather for the caravan and to receive the famous Toys for Tots window sticker. After everyone had joined the group, the caravan

would begin its trek to Love and War in Plano to drop off their donations. The sight was incredible as all LX/LY vehicles made their way down the highway across North Texas. It almost had a resemblance of the reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh. It was a great turn out even with all the changes to the location and date. The members came out strong for a great cause. The toys ranged in age from 0-12 and helped make a child happy on Christmas morning. Santa Claus was even there to help drop off the toys and take pictures with children.

The Love and War restaurant hosted some great musical talent from across Texas for the Texas Family Christian Celebration. The restaurant also hosted the DFWLX family for dinner and announcements. The members never fail to represent the club and show support to the community at large. The toy run gets bigger every year as the club continues to grow. With the donation of hundreds of toys, the 2013 Toy Run was successful. Not even the ice storm could keep DFWLX from giving back to the community and a noble tradition.

At every monthly Meet and Greet, there is a bright light coming from one parking spot that seems to draw everyone in. The bright light belongs to one vehicle that seems to shine above the rest constantly. It is a 2011 Redline Pearl Dodge Challenger SRT8 and belongs to Jon Szekely (zubock2). If you have had the pleasure of meeting Jon, you know he is a gentle and genuine person who truly cares about everyone and knows how to have a good laugh.

Jon has been a member of DFWLX for 2 years this July and has not looked back since. He purchased his car in May of 2012 off Craigslist from a dealer in North Carolina and had it shipped to his home in McKinney. He bought it with only 1,800 miles on it practically sight unseen. The desire to purchase a modern Challenger stems from owning a 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 with a 426 Wedge engine that he used to race on the famed US30 Dragstrip in Gary, Indiana. That experience held a special place in his heart for the next 40 years until he inherited some money. He took that inheritance and invested it in to the Challenger he has today, which caught his eye since their release. After purchasing the car, Jon attended the MSP Productions Car Show in Mckinney and in Frisco where he began to notice the DFWLX cars that were also present. The family atmosphere intrigued his interests and introduced himself to Mike Pena (mikepena). Mike gave him information about the club and the contact information for Pedro Murillo

(EZCORPION), the club’s President. After contacting Pedro on Facebook and discussing the club in detail more, Jon joined the club in July of 2012. He has been an avid member ever since, attending nearly all events and always promoting the DFWLX name.

Jon appreciates the family values that the club displays and promotes and loves being part of the largest Mopar car club in North Texas. He has never been part of another club and dreads imagining being part of another. Jon is an exemplary example of the attitude and demeanor our club promotes. He attends the events with his wife Melissa and at times, his daughter Donna will be in attendance, or when they have babysitting duties, their granddaughter Aubrey will join them. Aubrey was proud to help at the most recent Toys for Tots run this past December.

Passion does not just flow through Jon for his car, family, and club. He is also an avid bowler. To say he is a “good” bowler would be an understatement. He has sanctioned league averages of up to 225. He owns two 300 games, two 800+ series, two 299 games, one 296 game and two 290 (11 strikes in a row) games. All of these scores are sanctioned by the ABC or USBC.

Jon is a proud bowler, Challenger owner, father, grandfather, husband and DFWLX member.

DFWLX has a proud reputation of being family oriented. This is evident in the 2nd Annual Kenny Beard Sr. Memorial Car Show. The DFWLX family lost one of its own almost 2 years ago when Kenny Beard (tonkatoyntx) passed away. The club helped set up last year’s memorial car show to provide support for his family. This year, it was all about giving back and remembering one of the most devoted DFWLX family members the club has ever had.

Jackie Beard (JBeard) and family took charge this year and set up the memorial car show held at Streetside Customs in Fort Worth. The registration and raffle costs went to benefit the Tarrant County LOSS Team. DFWLX is dedicated to helping its members and giving back to the community. This successful event donated over $1,000 to the LOSS Team to help with its cause.

Kenney’s Vanishing Point Tribute Challenger was on full display next to the registration booth. If you have not had the pleasure of seeing this beauty in person, you are missing it out. It is definitely a tribute to Vanish Point and to Kenney himself. The bright white Challenger started the display of all the Challengers, Chargers, and 300’s that Kenney loved to observe. DFWLX showed up in force to support their own and it was a sight to see. Streetside Customs was lined with modern Mopars up and down their warehouse parking lot.

Streetside Customs also opened their warehouse doors for spectators to get a glimpse into their consignment inventory. Everyone was able

to walk through the rows of cars for display just waiting for the right enthusiast to take them home. The cars ranged from classic 1920 Ford to 2012 Jaguar and everything in between. It was definitely a sight to see and only added to the ambiance and attitude of the event. Luckily, there was no way for you to go hungry with the food truck right outside serving up hot dogs, burgers and barbecue sandwiches.

The end of the show featured a crowd voted Top 10 and a Best of Show. DFWLX nearly swept all categories as they came out in force. Kenney would have been proud to see the support the club is showing to his family and others in the DFW community. We know he was looking down and enjoying all the cars that came out in his behalf.

DFWLX Central Monthly M&GEvery 3rd Friday of the Month

CentralMonthlyMG&

The DFWLX club is growing every day with new members and new rides. To accommodate this growth and to allow those new and old members to interact, the Meet & Greet was formed. With the inaugural Meet and Greet starting in August, it has taken flight from there. Every third Friday of the month, members from all over North Texas come together to relax, interact, and enjoy their love for Mopars.

The event allows new members to meet the staff and meet other members as well. With the informal atmosphere, everyone is able to just sit back and talk cars and whatever else they desire. The enormous parking lot of the church allows for everyone to stretch out and not bang into one another, both in and out of the car. The Meet and Greet is the place to be to get your club stickers, club name badges, and newest club apparel.

Members are also able to use this event as a place to exchange any parts they may have dealt off on the forum. It also serves as an avenue for announcements from the club President, Pedro Murillo (EZCORPION). While the event only last three hours, the relationships that are built based off this last forever. In fact, the Meet and Greet has been a host location for some relationships to get started on their next journey.

This past September, our very own Jonathan Aguilar (HEMIDemon) allowed the DFWLX family to be part of his special proposal. After arranging it with Pedro, Jonathan proposed to his girlfriend, Berenice. It was a special moment in their life and he wanted to share it with his extended family. “I’ve enjoyed being in the family. I’ve only been to four or five meets, but I like being here and seeing all the cars, the mods and thinking about what I want to do next with my cars. I’ve actually gone another step further in my life and to show you all that you are my family,” Jonathan exclaimed right before he proposed.

The proposal was a perfect example of how close the members of DFWLX are and how much of a family oriented club it truly is. The atmosphere promoted by the meet and greets and by the members has helped grow the club into what it is today and helps it to continue to grow. The monthly Meet and Greets continue to get bigger and the plans for each of the next ones continue to grow as well.
