INKY THOUGHTSIt’s hard to believe that here we are on our 3rd issue of Designed To Color! Each time we have an open call, I’m amazed at the level of talent that comes across my inbox and the AMOUNT of submissions we get! It’s so hard trying to find that balance between all the color mediums and making sure we feature enough for everyone to enjoy. I would love to

see more of you submitting in the less common mediums like water coloring and colored pencils! Or even using color in unconventional ways to create stunning backgrounds for your cards like you will see on page 10.

One of my favorite parts of each issue is our Hue’s Who feature! This month we’re talking to Lori Boyd, owner & illlustrator of By LORi Designs. She’s incredibly talented both in her art and coloring and she’s allowed us a little peek into her every day life on page 22. I am absolutely thrilled to have the rest of the year lined up for our Hue’s Who....if you want to see a particular company featured, please email me at [email protected]!

This is our first issue that is completely subscription based, so if you are reading this, THANK YOU for believing in us and starting your subscription with us. We are working very hard to make each issue better than the last, bringing you the latest trends and coloring techniques to inspire you as you craft. Please let your friends know where they can find us (www.designedtocolor.com) to sign up. We are dedicated to bringing you beautiful coloring inspiriation in every single issue.

SUPPLY LIST Stamp: digital stamp by Pattie’s Creations Ink: Colorbox Punch: Martha Stewart corner round Embossing: Cuttlebug dotted folder Other: Brads, Twine, Computer generated Sentiment

EDITOR’S NOTE: This page features two different cards using the same image both colored with Copic Markers. I love how you can get a wide range of coloring with the same medium. In the card above, the fish has more detail added with the markers themselves by using the very tip of the brush end to make scales as well as blending different colors together for a more realistic look. In the card to the left, the image is colored in one color but the designer added highlights with a gel pen for added dimension. Both styles produce stunning and unique cards perfect for the special father in your life!

DESIGNER TIP: Pan Pastels were used to color both the chipboard heart and the background paper. The entire card was sealed with Krylon fixative.

SUPPLY LIST Paper: Canvas Corp; Embellishments: burlap (Canvas Corp, die cut with Sizzix die), chipboard heart (Basically Bare), letters (My Little Shoebox)
