Cutting:Note: Using the patterns provided, trace each size triangle and half triangle onto clear template plastic and cut out neatly. Rotate each template alternately upward and downward to maximize the number of pieces that can be cut across the width of the fabric. Center the fabric motifs in the large triangles, and pay attention to the directional prints, orienting the templates as necessary.

Instructions:Note: Use a 1⁄4” (.64cm) seam allowance throughout. Each full diamond, half diamond, and quarter diamond section contains triangles cut from (3) different fabrics. Refer to the Quilt Layout Diagram for correct fabric placement.

Diamond Section Assembly1. Select (6) small Fabric C triangles, (6) small Fabric O

triangles, and (12) small Fabric E triangles. Arrange the triangles in (4) horizontal rows to form a hexagon shape. (Fig. 1) Sew the triangles together, offsetting slightly so that the triangle tips overlap at the top and bottom of each row for seam allowance. Stitch the rows together matching all seams.

2. Sew a large Fabric C triangle to the top of the hexagon and a large Fabric O triangle to the bottom. (Fig. 2)

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 using the fabric combinations shown in the Quilt Layout to make (17) additional full

diamond sections, for a total of (18) sections.

Half Diamond Assembly4. Side sections. Select (2) small Fabric L triangles, (2)

small Fabric L half triangles, and (1) large Fabric L half triangle. Select (5) small Fabric H triangles, (2) small Fabric H half triangles, and (1) large Fabric H half triangle. Select (3) small Fabric F triangles. Arrange in rows, then sew the rows together matching all seams. (Fig. 3) Using the fabric combinations indicated, make another half-diamond section, then make (2) reverse sections.

5. Top and bottom sections. Select (1) large Fabric F triangle and (4) small Fabric F triangles. Select (3) small Fabric P triangles and (5) small Fabric I triangles. Arrange in rows, then sew the rows together matching all seams. (Fig. 4) Using the fabric combinations indicated, repeat to make (5) additional half diamond sections, for a total of (6) sections—(3) for the top of the quilt and (3) for the bottom.

Quarter Diamond Assembly6. Corner sections. Select (3) small Fabric J diamonds,

(1) small Fabric J half diamond, and (1) large Fabric J half diamond. Select (1) small Fabric H diamond and (1) small Fabric H half diamond. Select (1) small Fabric F diamond. Sew the pieces into rows, then sew the rows together matching all seams. (Fig. 5) Noting orientation of the pieces, repeat to make a total of (4) sections, (1) for each corner of the quilt top.

Finishing:7. Arrange the diamond, half diamond, and quarter

diamond sections into (8) diagonal rows. Stitch the pieces in each row together. Stitch the rows together matching the seamlines of the diamonds. Trim the quilt center evenly all the way around, making sure the triangle tips overlap 1⁄4” (.64cm) for seam allowance. The quilt top should measure approximately 481⁄2” x 631⁄2” (123.19cm x 161.29cm).

8. Cut and piece the backing fabric to measure 57” x 70” (145cm x 178cm). Layer the quilt top right side up on top of the batting and the wrong side of the backing. Baste the layers together and quilt as desired. Trim the backing and batting even with the quilt top.

9. Prepare binding from 21⁄2” x WOF Fabric G strips. Leaving an 8” (20.32cm) tail, sew binding to top of quilt through all layers matching all raw edges. Miter corners. Stop approximately 12” (30.48cm) from where you started. Lay both loose ends of binding flat along quilt edge. Where the two loose ends meet, fold them back on themselves and press to form a crease. Using the crease as your stitching line, sew the two open ends right sides together. Trim seam to 1⁄4” (.64cm) and press open. Finish sewing binding to quilt top. Turn binding to back of quilt and blind stitch in place.
