Planning, Cutting, and Marking Dramatic geometric and floral
prints in blue, silver, and black from the Venezia collection by
Benartex are featured in this bold, gridded quilt. Use an accurate
G˝ seam allowance throughout construction so all elements of the
quilt top fit together well.
The patches in the Diamond Blocks are cut from tem-plates. To
prepare templates, trace on template plastic, including seam lines,
grain lines, and match points. Cut out directly on outer lines.
Make small holes at match points using awl or large needle. Place
templates right side down on wrong sides of appropriate fabric;
mark around templates. Cut out fabric patches and transfer match
points to wrong sides of each.

Piecing the Blocks and Units1 Referring to Diagram I, sew 2 each
A and Ar to B, aligning match points, to make Diamond Block. Make
9.
2 Sew together 1 each Diamond Block, black solid 12˝ strip, and
blue floral 6H˝ x 12˝ rectangle to make pieced rectangle (Diagram
II). Make 9.
3 Sew together 1 each blue wavy stripe 6H˝ x 8H˝ rectangle,
black solid 6H˝ strip, and light blue print 6H˝ x 13H˝ strip to
make pieced strip (Diagram III). Make 9.
Assembling the Quilt TopNote: Refer to Assembly Diagram for
fol-lowing steps.
4 Arrange and sew 3 rows using 3 pieced rectangles, 5 black
solid 22H˝ strips, and 3 pieced strips each, rotating as shown.
5 Sew together rows and black 62˝ strips, alternating and
trimming strips even with rows after each addition.
6 Measure exact width of quilt center from raw edge to raw edge.
Trim 2 blue floral 62˝ strips to this measurement; sew black 1H˝ x
6H˝ strips and light blue print 6H˝ squares to ends. Sew black 72˝
strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Stitch blue floral
72˝ strips to sides; trim even with top/bottom. Sew black 76˝
strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides. Stitch pieced strips to
top/bottom.
Quilting and Finishing7 Layer, baste, and quilt. Linda stitched
in the ditch around diamonds and black strips. Patches and borders
are quilted with jagged spirals and wavy lines. Bind with black
solid.
