    DC 3D APM V1

    Basic Information:

Our Software DC 3D APM is based on former Software CDI and runs under operating

system WINDOWS NT or WINDOWS 2000. It follows the software TOP SOLID and

enlarges its functionalities. TOP SOLID has been developed by MISSLER company/

France. The software is a 3D mechanical tool.

TOP SOLID is associative that means: Moving of points on SPLINE curves will update

directly the 3D model as well as parametric that means: changing of certain values will

have a direct impact on the 3D model. Thus TOP SPOLID is a direct competitor to 3Dmechanical software tools like PRO ENGINEER and others. The Software kernel is

    PARASOLID.

DC 3D targets mainly: First prototypes

    Working procedure

    1. 3D Construction

Like in all 3D mechanical applications you can start right away to construct in 3D. The startpoint is a Solid cube trimmed by NURBS surfaces.

Picture: Construction path for all operations and values

In the directory you will find all operations, being necessary for these steps. Based onthis, you can modify all values. This is the parametric process described before.

    2. Data import

You may also import 3D data from other systems. We are able to read the following data

    formats:

    IGES

    PARASOLID

    DXF/DWG from AUTODESK

    CATIA V4 (option)

You will need to clean the file and erase unnecessary information. Then the file is ready for

    further operations.

    3. Creation of style curves

By defining style curves on the 3D model, you clearly set up how your seat will look

like. You also define hereby boundary lines for each single shape. This work is

essential for the further flattening process.

    4. Creation of 3D patterns and firs t flattening

The predefined 3D patterns will receive a mesh. This is done fully automatically. The

Algorithm which is in behind, has been developed by a university and is said to be the

best in year 1999. It is also in use for other applications, e.g. F.E.M.

As a basic rule we can say: the bigger the mesh, the faster the result. Yet this result

may be more imprecise. So we need to find an optimum between cycle time and

    quality.

Now you are able to open a new document and start the 3D-2D flattening process.

This job runs also automatically and fast.

Each modification in 3D creates new flat patterns.

    Picture: 3D/2D flattening

    5. Analysis of the flat patterns

You will now have a visualisation of compression and tension. This will be scaled in

percent. The result allows you to analyse critically the design of your seat. This tool will

thus improve the team work of designers and trim engineers. An electronic document

facilitates the base of communication within your team.

In a traditional work environment you manually need approx. 2 weeks for a new

prototype. With DC3D you may achieve the same result within 2 days

    6 . Measuring of 2 D patterns

Here you measure the length of your parts and so you can evaluate, how good the

further sewing process can be expected

    7. Modifications after analysis

You can change curves and parameters and you can insert darts in order to minimize

    tension at certain areas.

    8. Seam allowances and notches

Notches can be set in the 3D document by means of symbols. Seam allowances will

be attached on the 2D patterns.

Now you can export these pattern results via DXF/AAMA format to any 2D CAD

    software.

    9. Cutting preparation and technical data sheet

You will gather all patterns in another document. Here you may define the appropriate

cutting tool for all parts of your patterns. Those parts can be saved in DXF data format

and are ready now for export. All patterns can be cut now and sewn together.Your first

    prototype is ready.

    Basic information

This additional software module allows you to simulate the design of your seat. Unlike

other applications we do not need to have a physical model ready to take pictures from. It

has been created on the screen. So you are much earlier ready to work on it and you do

not have to wait until you have a real existing seat model at your disposal.

This will speed up and ease your development cycle, because you do not have to build so

    many prototypes.

    The Steps:

    Textile Mapping

Scanned fabrics and imported files are precondition. You can lay your patterns onto the

scanned fabric and get a realistic impression.

    Picture: Motive Matching

    1. Motive Matching

A huge and unique advantage is the matching of patterns. By moving corresponding

patterns on your fabric, you will achieve a very realistic 3D picture. So you work very close

    to reality.

Layers for Textures, trenches, stitches and ornaments

By means of preselected elements or those created by yourself, you are able to apply

realistic effects on your model. The results can be printed or exported to other 2D

    professional design software.

We are compatible to ALIAS Wavefront, which is said to be the best on the market in terms

    of shadowing and light effects

Our Lectra Software DC 3D TR V1 is a perfect step within this cycle.
