Introduction...

As a developing designer I like to gather and grow my skills. This includes using all the up to date software packages such as; CAD, photoshop, in-design, sketch up as well as Revit. I work best creating my 3D visuals by exporting from softwares such as Revit and sketch up into photoshop. I really enjoy working with photoshop and feel I have acquired some good skills. During my time at university I have spent time looking at Architects and designers. I have worked quite closely with Architect; Tadao Ando, whose work I have become to really admire, more so because of the justification for his designs and how he processes it. I love working with pattern and creating features within a room, as well as using colour to express myself, therefore styling is my preference. I also have a great interest in upcylcing furniture; using the old and giving it a new lease of life, by using simple processes such as sanding, painting and re-upholstering. During my portfolio I will show my range of skills throughout my favourite projects I have worked on whilst at university.

Rivington Hall...

Rivington Hall is a Grade || listed building which was built in three stages. The back part was built as early as 1664, the front in 1774 and the Victorain wing built lastly in 1890.The building is located next to the Saxon origin Rivington Barn. This is very popular as a wedding venue, which inspired the brief for this project:The current owner of the house wants to expand his business and wants the public to enjoy the beauty of the Hall. A day spa is the proposed change of use which incorporates guest rooms and a bridal suite. The bridal suite comes as a package with the wedding venue at an extra cost. This houses the bride the night before the wedding along with her chosen guests. The hall has to be privately booked for other occasions.

This is the bridal suite where the bride would stay the night before the wedding. The room is bright an spacious with original coving and high skirting boards. I kept the colours fairly neutral using a statment wallpaper to bring some depth into the room.

The existing building has an original wrought iron spiral staircase which I wanted to keep. I made a feature of it and extended the balcony to accomodate the bridal suite as well as act as a fire escape.

The guest suite is where the brides chosen guests will stay (bridesmaids). To contrast from the bridal suite i have used a duckegg blue colour, creating a relaxing and calm atmosphere. The wallpaper has a floral pattern which starts to bring the nature which surrounds the building.

Treatment room (manicure and pedicure)

Bar and lounge area

For the Bar and lounge area I wanted to keep a more traditional feel inkeeping with the buildings style but with a modern twist. I have used wall panels which emphasise the height of the ceiling. I have used a floral wallpaper and kept the tones in the room green which helps bring the outside in. The bright coloured furniture give it the modern twist I wanted to create, using vibrant luxurious fabrics

This treatment room is a place for the users to mingle whilst having treatments, opposed to all the other treatment rooms which are private. I wanted this room to have a sense of fun aswell as relaxation which I created with pattern and texture.

The mud chamber is a unique experience. It is a small room to create an intimate atmosphere and a relaxing experience.

Achari is an Indian / Bangledeshi restaurant in Bolton. The client wanted something new and fresh still incorporating some of the culture. To create more space banquet seating is used (replacing the existing booths) which makes the seating arrangements easily interchangeble. Space planning was crucial to the design as the restaurant is very small and the client wanted as many seats as possible.

For the design I used refreshing colours to brighten the restaurant up but still giving a relaxed atmosphere. I used the wallpaper from a designer who had been inspired from her trip to India to incorporate the culture. The client wanted to keep costs as low as possible as a big part of the budget went towards a small extension at the fron of the building. To do this the original seating was re-upholsterd and some of the tables sanded and revarnished in a preferred colour.

Hyde Park, Serpentine Gallery Pavilion...

For this project I used the serpentine gallery’s anuual pavillion as my brief, each year the gallery commisions an architect to design a pavillion, which sits next to the Gallery itself. The paviilion I designed is based on world renowned architect Tadao Ando and his ethos.

To get the 3d views I used the package, Revit Architecture; this gave me the shell of the building which I then took into photoshop to render so that I could show its realistic character.
