The Project

Project Background

This project aims to design a three-floor computer shop building to be constructed in Metro Manila. The building aims to give the best performance in connectivity as well as the best aesthetics in design. The proposed project aims to design a computer shop network with high speed internet through fiber connection. The computer shop is composed of three floors with different network connection and function for every floor. The design of the three-floor computer shop will compose of approximately 65 computers not including laptops and other wireless or wired devices. The building will have the best routers, switch, desktop, laptop and printer available for commercial use.

Project Objectives

Project Background

The project aims to enhance the basic knowledge in networking.Specifically this project intends to:

• Practice design project making with computed constraints and standards.

• Use Cisco Packet Tracer, MS Visio, Wireshark and the like tools.• Use design project documentation.• Design a SOHO network accomplishing 2 out of the 3

requirements specifically prioritizing performance and aesthetic standards.

Project Scope and Delimitations

Project Background

The project covers both computer network and design. It includes selection of the best performing devices and assurance of ergonomic strategies with the aid of appropriate design methods and selection of materials by adopting known codes and standards, and controlled by multiple constraints.

Scope1. The project covers all the design of a three floor computer shop.2. It includes floor plan of each level as well as the network design and standards.3. The selection of products is based on the provided design constraints with

performance as the primary constraint and aesthetics as the secondary.

 Limitation

4. The network design is not yet tested in actual.5. The network can only be simulated using the Cisco Packet Tracer v6.0 or later.

Page 6: Design for a Computer Shop Network

Design ConstraintsThe following constraints were considered on the design project:

High Speed/Future Proof/High End. The design of this project will prioritize based on the latest technology and the devices used will prove to be of use for a long period of time, rather future proof posing to become a high end computer shop.

Aesthetics/Ergonomics/Many Accessories. The designers will also give factor to the aesthetics and ergonomics of the devices to be used in designing the computer shop. Not only must the devices and accessories to be high end, but also must be elegant in design. Also, the ergonomics of the devices chosen was given consideration in order to maximize the utility and space of the project design.

The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol

(DHCP) service enables devices on a network

to obtain IP addresses and other information

from a DHCP server. This service automates

the assignment of IP addresses, subnet

masks, gateway and other IP networking

parameters.
