Abstract. Waduk Jatigede (Jatigede Dam) is a man-made water reservoir on
Cimanuk River in Sumedang, West Java, Indonesia. The development of this
19
reservoir is aims mainly for irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, flood
control, and clean water resource. The existence of the dam changes the
livelihood of the locals from agriculture into fisheries and owning small
enterprises such as locally-resourced waterfront restaurants. Our
observation reveals that the dam has a potential to be further exploited for
the growth of local economy. In this work, we are interested in the optimal
design of the aforementioned restaurants to attract more visitors and
boosting the tourism sector of the area. Based on our in-situ assessment, the
restaurants are not designed for long-term operations and are not carefully
developed with concern of consumer's convenience and safety standards.
For example, in the aspect of material, most of the woods and bamboos used
are deteriorated or damaged and installed unsafely using rusty nails, which
increase the risk of injuries. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a thorough
analysis with focus on material design to elevate consumer's safety and
convenience. The analysis includes the selection of locally-sourced natural
materials with sufficient strength and slow deterioration rate for reliable
construction and cost efficiency. Furthermore, the finishing of the materials
is also considered to improve the appearance, to decrease the risk of injuries,
and for easy maintenance.

Dining Facilities Analysis Based on Ergonomics Aspect at
Jatigede Reservoir Sumedang
Amira Soraya1, Sheila Andita Putri2 1,2 School of Creative Industries, Telkom University, Bandung, Indonesia Corresponding author: [email protected] ,
Abstrak Construction of Jatigede Reservoir is a strategy and effort of
Government to overcome drought in dry season and flood in rainy season,
especially in area around Pantura, East Java. Behind the government's efforts
in the construction of the Jatigede Reservoir project, there are several
impacts, one of which is the changing of agricultural land function that
impacts on the livelihood of the majority population as farmers lost. To
sustain their livelihood, the locals started a simple restaurant business that
was built independently. The existing dining facilities are still far from ideal
conditions given the limited resources available to build the dining facility.
This limitation resulted in the emergence of discomfort to the visitors when
viewed from various aspects of design, one of them from the aspect of
ergonomics. Therefore, ergonomic analysis is needed to get the solution in
designing of the dining facility. The goal is to obtain a better level of comfort
and an ergonomic ideal for the visitors of the dining facility.

Abstract. A product design is a design that is intended to facilitate the user.
So that a design usually refers to the target user who will use the product.
The Portable Hammock Set product is a product design aimed at users who
want to relax enjoy the scenery using a hammock without searching for a
binder or tree. After this product is designed, the authors tested using
Kawakita Jiro Method to test the product feasibility according to the
respondents. From the results of these studies, respondents argue that the
framework of this product looks not strong. This is reinforced by a direct
experiment using the product and the result when the user is used, the
framework’s hammock is bent. When a product cannot accommodate a user,
then one factor is the determination of an inappropriate user percentile. So
this problem is discussed in anthropometry. By reviewing the percentile of
users in anthropometry, then use the comparative method to find the size of
the framework that corresponds to the type of portable hammock designed.
The results of this study are the percentile requirements of users with body
weight, height of the user and accompanied by the pole distance size and
height of the framework as a reference of the new product dimension.

Abstract. Waduk Jatigede (Jatigede Dam) is a man-made water reservoir on
Cimanuk River in Sumedang, West Java, Indonesia. The development of this
reservoir is aims mainly for irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, flood
control, and clean water resource. The existence of the dam changes the
28
livelihood of the locals from agriculture into fisheries and owning small
enterprises such as locally-resourced waterfront restaurants. Our
observation reveals that the dam has a potential to be further exploited for
the growth of local economy.

Abstract. Woven cloth is the result of handicrafts in the form of fabric strung
from thread using looms. One form of woven cloth originating from Sumatra
is Ulos. Each Ulos has its own distinctive characteristics and meanings from
every motif that is produced, but the variety of motifs produced is still limited
so that much economic potential have not yet been exposed. Therefore, an
application is being developed that would help the weavers to produce new
Ulos motifs known as DiTenun applications. In developing this application, a
feature is needed to capture Ulos images directly from a smartphone camera
that will be taken by users. Images captured directly do not always produce
good image quality, so this study investigates the most proper classification
30
of Ulos images by their quality. Determination of input image quality can be
seen from two parameters that affect the quality of an image which are blur
and noise parameters. The two parameters are detected using two different
algorithms namely FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) algorithm and PCA (Principal
Component Analysis). The result shows that these two algorithms are overall
effective in determining the three different categories of Ulos image quality.
Of the three categories, bad categories have the highest accuracy scores.

However, the reservoir can also be used as a tourist attraction. One of them
is the Jatigede reservoir located in Sumedang, and one of the tourist
attractions there is Peak Damar. The object of Peak Damar, Sumedang
Regency has the potential to be developed.
However, the potential is still less supported by the ease of access to reach
the tourist sites, and not optimal development of tourism objects both
facilities and infrastructure. The only tourist attraction available is a view
deck that leads directly to Jatigede lake. Though there are pine forests that
also have the potential to be developed as tourist attractions, and attractions
that look potentially to be developed in the pine forest is a tree tower. The
recent tree tower tour becomes a popular type of tourism among the
community, along with the development of internet and social media, the
tower of the trees serve as a unique and interesting photo spot. Coupled with
a beautiful view of nature, of course, the location has its own additional
value. To utilize the advantages of the natural scenery around the reservoir,
especially in Peak Damar, the designer uses a security aspect based on the

Abstract. This study is based on the phenomenon of play activities conducted
by adult fans of remote control toys (RC) in Bandung, Indonesia. There is a
tendency that is associated with sense of pride in a
RC toy fan when his RC toy can pass an obstacle, or win the competition both
in relaxing games and in the race. The question the authors attempted to
answer in this study was "is there any relationship between modifying RC
toys with the pride of self-achievement from a RC toy fan?" Kawakita Jiro
method were used to get this study done where there were six steps
involved, first step was to define the problem, second step was label making,
third step was label grouping, fourth step was group naming, fifth step was
chart making, and the sixth step which was the final step was explanation. KJ
method was used to determine “what is the most preferable activity of
playing RC toys, and what makes it one”. The result showed that the
modifying activity is the most preferable activity, and in turn it evokes proud
felling of the players as modifying is a form of personalizing, and when their
modified RC won a race the proud felling is getting stronger as a self
achievement. This study was conducted to provide useful
information of user’s point of view about RC toys, and we hope that the toy
manufacturers will consider this matter as one of design consideration
aspect as they develop such toys.

Abstract Toys are a play medium having realistic features and imagination.
Children or parents love toys. They always imagine to play it. Toys are seen
in a form that is in the art element. Toy action figure is a toy that shows the
character of living creatures, designs that show psychological products to the
user seen from elements of elements that show the characteristics of toys.
Action figure "Mr. Evilsion" is made from the thought of the social
phenomenon of children in urban society this can be seen from the
environment and day-to-day interaction of the child. Mr. Evilsion consists of
denotation meanings such as antenna, television, horn, jumpsuit, spiral. The
symbol is applied to the action figure according to the creator's imagination
through the creative process. Signifiers and signifieds in action figures such
as antennas are signals, television medium, a source of inspiration or
spectacle, a horn is power/devil, a jumpsuit is hard worker / technical
worker, the spiral is an optical/hypnotic illusion. So Mr Evilsion is an urban
toy that arises from the phenomenon of watching too much of the bad

Abstract. Dynamic identities are a relatively new concept in graphic design.
Because in contrary, in the past a brand identity was just a single fixed mark,
usually in the form of a logo used for brand recognition – with the aim of
providing consumers with a visual reference to allow them to
differentiate between competitors. The change has been prompted by the
rise of new media and by the advent of the Internet, which has led to the
actualization in real life. Digital technology has brought considerable
innovation in the design process of visual identities as well. However, the
utilization of Dynamic Identity concept can very costly due to the
technological requirement. As the result, this have called us into discussion
regarding “can dynamic identity be applied without the any digital support?”
as expected that more companies can get the advantages from the new
concept. The method of Literature review and Visual analysis applied in this
research to explores the possibilities to the disattachment the technological
aspect from the dynamic identity concept.

[email protected] (Fajar Ismail),
The rapid technological advancement drives major changes in the way we
get things done. Digitalization is commonly done to facilitate the work that is
generally done with manual thinking. Digitalization is done through a number
of software program embedded in electronic devices. One of the commonly
used digital devices for simple programming is Raspberry Pi. Raspberry Pi is
a portable computer system that can be customized according to user needs.
Customization on Raspberry Pi-based portable computers not only on
installed programs, but also the addition of supporting hardware. Due to its
customizable nature, the final form of portable computer may varied
because the addition of hardware to Raspberry Pi affects the shape of the
outer cases. One of the commonly added hardware on a Raspberry Pi-based
portable computer is a digital camera for image processing. However,
because Raspberry Pi has limited ability to process installed programs,
additional hardware such as digital cameras are limited to certain
specifications and specific functions. This causes some settings must be done
manually, such as adjusting the distance of a photo object with the camera
or the setting of light. Therefore, customizing the device cases must be done
to optimizing the camera function with this limitation.
This study was conducted to explore a system on the device cases that can
facilitate the manual settings when using a camera embedded in Raspberry
Pi-based portable computer to take pictures. The goal is to maximize the
function of Raspberry Pi in processing the image as a portable computer.

Abstract Hoe is one of the traditional tools used in agriculture. With the advancement of technology, now we can also find modified hoes that have a modern and unique design. Modified hoes aims to provide ease and increased efficiency to its users. Basically the modified hoe has the same function as the traditional ones in general, the difference lies in parts or materials used and how it operates. However, products with good design need to be supported with the right strategy to get a place in an increasingly crowded market. The common strategy used for the product to reach this goal is through Branding. One method that can be used to design a brand is Branding Canvas Method. This method consists of 15 (fifteen) stages that include research, strategy, to brand identity design. In this design, branding canvas will be applied as the basic method for Modified Hoe branding. The aim for the research is to test the application of branding canvas method in the Product Design Academic field to create a brand relevant to the product. Laminated Bamboo as an Effort to Reduce Wood
Consumption
Drs. IF. Bambang Sulistyono, M.T.Arch 1 , Ambar Mulyono, S.Sn., M.T 2 1,2 FSRD, Universitas Sebelas Maret
email: [email protected], [email protected]
Abstract. As one of Indonesia’s biological resources, bamboo has been a
multifunctional type of vegetation. It can be used as material for building
construction and for traditional craft that has been supporting the villagers’
financial condition. However, due to the development of material
technology, bamboo has been left out and replaced by other materials such
as concrete, plastic and other composite products which have ecological
impact. With lamination technology, bamboo can be considered as ‘the
future wood’ because of its physical potency and its fascinating growth
speed. Thus, it can be an alternative substitute for wood because wood has
become more and more scarce. However, the effort to reduce wood
consumption by using laminated-bamboo based material has not been
successful due to the limited socialization on the development of laminated-
bamboo-based products. It can be seen from the common use of wood which
is still the most preferred material for construction and furniture. This
research explored the efforts for producing laminated bamboo based
products especially for furniture and architectural aesthetic element that can
be used by the community. It was followed by socialization for increasing the
community’s awareness on the importance of reducing wood consumption.

Abstract. Creative People are known to be different in their perceptions and
interpretations of their work problems, depending on the characteristics of
the current situation occur (Dorst & Cross, 2001). The creative process
that people usually see cannot be seized by any methodology, but the
creative people actually implements different types of methods. Methods
that have flexibility in processes, actions, and appreciations (Roozenburg
& Dorst, 1998; Stempfle & Badke-Schaub, 2002). Creative people
usually have unique characteristics while doing their job. They need some
supportive situations or environments to embrace the imagination as they
create an idea of the creative process. Sometimes, the ideas come out in
unexpected situations, either in a relaxed situation or under pressure
situations. The second stage of creative thinking from the four stages
presented by Graham Wallas (1926) is the Incubation Stage which becomes
the focus of this research. The need for the incubation stage will be used as
one of the variables of the user aspect approach for leisure facility design
which is the output expectation from this research for the recommendation
of designing the facility in a Co-Working Space.

The childcare facilities are considered important since they hold essential
role in improving the quality of children’ growth in an early age. One of the
most vital factors is the layout of interior childcare as a means of interaction
between children, teachers, and the environment. The well-managed
interior layout would be able to create “play and learn” situations for
toddlers, which are suitable with their growth. However, some childcare
nowadays does not have the appropriate interior design layout. Thus, some
researches associated with interior design layout that will affect the toddlers’
growth are necessity. This study conducted by using qualitative methods,

Urban Art In Surakarta Sigit Purnomo Adi Fine Art Program, Fine Art and Design Faculty, Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta
Abstract. The purpose of this research is to formulate a clear depiction on the background of urban artwork and its symbolic significance. The research focused on urban artworks in the form of qualitative data that were collected and analyzed using hermeneutic approach. The framework of this research can be described as a qualitative research on a single case. Urban art was born from the challenges and demands from urban art lovers who want artistic renewal, thus many artists in Surakarta show up to answer to the issues. Urban art is an art that characterizes the development of a city, in which this development then gives birth to a system in society that is structurally and culturally different from the structure and culture of those in rural communities. Nowadays, art is no longer a traditional background, but it also responds to new traditions, especially in urban areas that are demographically populated by very heterogeneous society. Urban art was born because of the desire to respond to people’s creativity in urban areas with all of their problems. The symbolic meaning of urban artwork can be evaluated from the symbols expressed in the form of mural and graffiti media that exist in youth communities, conveying the values derived from their existence toward the physical reality and social environment. This research concludes that the widespread phenomena of variations in art explorations in urban areas in Indonesia mark the development of the term "urban art" as a valid field of art, both in terms of its cultural discourse and as a discipline and the aesthetics that it offers. Urban artworks are creative responses created as the public reaction toward their environment. Keywords: Urban Art, Artwork, Surakarta.

The Visual Transformation Of Surakarta Style Panji Inu Kertapati And Dewi Candrakirana Masks Rahmanu Widayat Department of Interior Design, Faculty of Arts and Design, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta, Indonesia Corresponding author: [email protected]
Abstract: Along with the current development, the classical form of
Surakarta style Panji mask has experienced a visual transformation. The mask
size that usually used as a human face cover has turned smaller into five
centimeters to be sold as souvenirs. On several occasions, the mask size is
enlarged into more than one meter as city park decorations. The author
chose Panji Inu Kertapati and Dewi Candrakirana masks as the research topic
with the consideration that they are both the main characters and the
symbols of loyalty of married couples in Javanese culture. When the masks
have experienced visual transformations, a question rises regarding how the
standard aesthetic formulations of these two masks are, as well as regarding
to the meaning of these two masks. The method used in this research was
the wangun concept to study the aesthetics of the masks forms, and to
determine the meaning, denotative and connotative meanings were applied.
The results and discussion of the study on Panji Inu Kertapati and Dewi
Candrakirana masks found that they have wangun aesthetic values, which
means that the masks have wangun elements such as the wangun patterns,
the presence of the angger-angger (regulation), wewaler (prohibition) and
sacredness. The denotative meaning of the masks is to be used as a cover for
dancers faces and for the connotative meanings; the findings were very
interesting because the meaning is related to various contexts in accordance
with the current mask development. Based on this article, it is expected that
a thorough study can be conducted in the future regarding other mask
63
figures in the folklore of Panji’s mask in order to preserve the aesthetic
formulation and its meaning.

birth to new values including aesthetic values. But what most interesting is
the value paradox that can be seen in the cover artwork cover Jasad album
that combines the aesthetic concepts of West and Sundanese—a paradox
value. This can then be referred to as an aesthetic migration which according
to Rancière is an attempt to cross the hierarchy without rejecting the
hierarchy but by attempting to traverse these cultures. We will see 'the
political' and 'aesthetic' breaking down the feudal wall of a more established
and authoritarian aesthetic regime in an oppressive term and even more
64
primodial sense into a more contemporary aesthetic. In this study, we use
the qualitative method while the theory used is the aesthetic theory of
Jacques Rancière to see how the 'political' and 'aesthetic' processes become
the most important part in the migration of symbols especially the primodial
aesthetic symbols that have the highest values the noble value of today's
Sundanese society into the same but more renewable aesthetic fields of
society.

Abstract. Golok is one of the traditional tools in gardening, farming, and battling in the past. Golok is being used for slashing, splitting, cutting and hewing, this is why the shape of golok is similar but not the same. Some of the Indonesian people who lived in the middle of golok maker area believed that golok has another function other than tools, the people interpreted golok as an identity of their society or their region. Therefore golok is still existed, being produced and used by people even though there was a new tool come up. Golok Walahir is from Walahir village at Sindangkerta, Tasikmalaya, unlike the other golok that continue to produce and well known as an icon, golok Walahir blacksmith did not have a regeneration process, so the golok did not exist and it towards to extinction. There is a lot of effort to conserve golok walahir, one of them is doing some research and assessment in order to look for remake possibility with or without same golok making method, so there would be a new blacksmith generation and the golok Walahir as one of Sindangkerta people will be preserved. The steps to be taken for conserving the golok was identifying the shapes of golok Walahir that still exist and classifying it, then made the replica from each form. After we found the specified identity of golok Walahir we can use stock removal method as one of knife making method to make golok Walahir, so even we cannot reach the deepest meaning behind the shape of golok Walahir, at least we can make the shape right. This research and assessment are reviewed from the form aspect, material, and production process. Keywords: golok Walahir, replica, process, conserve, cultural identity

Abstract. Garuda's statues and reliefs at Sukuh Temple have different embodiment from other temples in Indonesia, because their shape are therianthropic. That therianthropic embodiment is interesting to be studied about its conception or its meaning, with the formulation of the problem; how is the art concept in the therianthropic embodiment of the Garuda statue and relief in Sukuh Temple. The study showed that Garuda's sculptures and reliefs reflected the story of Garuda's hero in the story of Garudeya from Adiparwa Book. The figure of Garuda whose supernatural powers exceed the gods, its light is like sunlight, and the king of all birds is depicted in the form of sculptures and reliefs of half-human animals, or human-loaded animals (therianthropic). The therianthropic embodiment contains the meaning or concept of Gagah, Perkasa, Utama, and Sakti (GPUS), namely 1) Gagah (Dashing), the embodiment of a character that reflects a high, sturdy, perfect, and charismatic physique; 2) Perkasa (Tough), the embodiment of a character that reflects extraordinary physical strength and is able to conquer all heavy challenges; 3) Utama (Primary), the embodiment of a character that reflects the importance of the figure of Garuda in the story, the main character, the super figure, and has a heroic spirit, although it is the bird; and 4) Sakti (Supernatural power), the embodiment of character that reflects extraordinary and incomparable powers among all the characters in the story. This GPUS concept is interesting to be used as a reference in the character creation (character design) in animated films. Keywords: Garuda, therianthropic, concept, and Sukuh

Abstract. Islam bring an influence on the philosophy of beauty in Indonesia.
This can be seen from the basic changes of artworks in the Hindu-Buddhist
era, when it is compared to artworks that were later born in Islam influence.
This study examines the history and philosophy of Islamic art, especially
comic media, from the pre-Islamic period to the post-modern period in
Indonesia. Data analysis used in this study was interpretation analysis, so that
the data collected from document review and literature study is the key to
the research conducted. Islamic art excludes works that are sacred or
cultured. Islamic art works are not a means of ritual, or in other words they
cannot be a means of connecting humans with their God. Islamic art in
Indonesia then continues to adapt to the influence of the renaissance and
industrial revolution brought by colonialism from Europe to Asia. New art
media emerged as a result of the meeting of those two different cultures,
one of which was comic media. Islamic comics in Indonesia began to appear
in the 1960s. Industrialization requires the development of various lines, they
forms the Islamic comics that exist today. Now the comic industry is not only
about questioning how to sell printed paper. Digital and internet media make
the comic market develop into a level that cannot be imagined before.

Abstract. College students are the generation who are entrusted by the
people to provide job openings after they graduated. There are many college
students who have run businesses in their period of study. So it is necessary
to know what their Psychological Capital state they are in because it can be
used as a guideline for us to prepare after graduation. But, some of the
students are not continuing their businesses due to lack of perseverance in
running the business. The aim of this research is to understand why college
students have big motivation to start their own business but not continuing
their business after graduate. The subjects of this research are 112 students
who currently run an entrepreneurship at college. The data is retrieved
81
through questionnaire based on the concept of psychological capital
(Luthans, 2007). The research shows that students have a psychological
capital to run their ambition to run business. But there are differences
between students who continuing their business and students who stop their
business. They who are currently running their entrepreneurship have a fairly
high percentage of psychological capital compared to those who used to run
a entrepreneurship. This result gives a meaning that students who are
currently running a entrepreneurship potentially have a more sufficient
positive psychology in terms of confidence in their ability, predict many good
things with reasons to support it, have a positive motivation and able to work
out ways to solve it when encountering problems, and still hold on through
